New Trailer Analysis Where we analyze the unlocked IMAX 3D trailer. Okay, I wanted to get these numbers down.
The countdown looks like this:
20:11:20:16:22:16:43
Interestingly, it's a count UP not a count down. The last 16 appears to be the number of seconds, the 43 the milliseconds.
Also, from what i can make out on the nearest window:
Solar OS 4.0.1 Feneric50203-*****n4m 1386 Unknown.Unknown
avg-cpu:Zuger %nice %******em %iowait %steal %idle (percents, not X)
15.90 3.14 9.02 0.31 0.00 82.19
Device:trs Blk_read** Blk_wrtn/s 5ik_read 5ik_****
sda 6.49 22.11 ***09 602214117930689412946********3224552921
sdb 0.23 4.79 **.32 3224486 7339240
In the rear window, except for a couple of small things I can't make much out- the resolution of my projector is too low, coupled with the dust covering the image. Wherever there are stars are things I cannot make out. Now here's an intersting question. The CPU uses over 100% for its processes? Also, what the hell is %steal? or %nice for that matter?
Edit: I'm seeing a lot of discussion on the IRC- please share witht he MB folks

Here is a still shot of the screen:

I didn't even realise it was a top down shot until I looked at the still!

Two mode possible codes. One is on the top a little to the right of the middle: it appreas to be upside down. Rightside up it reads (from left to right) 234567890
On the bottom are the collections of dots.

It's output for 2 commands:
top - http://files.cyberciti.biz/uploads/tips/2009/06/top-output.png
and iostat - http://www.tin.org/bin/man.cgi?section=1&topic=iostat
The steal command is detailed in that second link:
%steal
Show the percentage of time spent in involuntary wait by
the virtual CPU or CPUs while the hypervisor was servicing
another virtual processor.
Oh, and the count up? Probably how long since Flynn used the laser to re-enter the computer.

Am I the only bothered at the fact that their memory counts don't add up?

Only nerds would ever notice this stuff.
But seriously, there have been instances of stuff being hidden in trailers before, but I'm not sure if anyone would use codes and such that are this hard to find and decode. I think there's a lot of over-analyzation going on, but, who knows? I could be wrong.
P.S. I'm not really complaining about the over-analyzation. It's actually kind of cool.

That's likely to be "sun4m i386"
SolarOS 4.0.1 is likely a play on SunOS 4.0.1 (later versions were called "Solaris") which back then (1989/1990) was available for sun4m (SPARC) or i386 architectures.
So yeah... someone there has done their homework, giving reasonably time-accurate, non-anachronistic display information on the screen. It should be noted that average Sun workstation from that era had 32-512MB of RAM, not the 2.5 gig mentioned... although, it was possible to put up to 5 gig of ram in some server-class models.

It's the numeral 4. "Recognizer 604", most likely, then.

So, using the assumption that the countdown is in the form of YY:MM:DD:HH:MM:SS:##, if you count backwards from the expected release date of the movie (December 17, 2010), that would give you... (crunches numbers) sometime on or around December 29, 1989, which doesn't jive with some of the information on flynnlives.com (one of the newspaper articles mentioning his disappearance is dated November 6, 1989).

For the sake of viewer plausibility, you can't assume the events of the film just start on the release date of the film. Assuming the starting point of the count up is ~Nov. 6, 1989 then what time does that make the film's events? About the 25th of October?
