Will Green Lantern have an ARG?
The new film starring Ryan Reynolds.

Collider.com received a package from Warner Bros. full of Green Lantern swag a few days ago.

Other than that stuff (which is sweet, especially the Power Ring!) has anyone heard if they are planning something more?? I'm thinking similar to Flynn Lives or The Dark Night type of events.

I doubt it. I don't think the comic book companies view it as profitable anymore. Just look at Iron Man 2's "ARG" biggest wast of time I've ever encountered.

enh. it's neat. but it's trendy, and it's just branding. sites that post this sort of marketing really just rally up a bunch of crazed fans who drool at the awesome swag with raging jealousy. it's not profitable, and really if they're hoping that sort of thing will make an impact without offering some well-made experience for the community, they're doin' it rong.

great collectibles - look like nice quality - but to me it's just way too "look at this great movie stuff we just sent you for free! we're awesome! now go spread the word and make your fans and friends jealous!".

It's social influencer-focused branded marketing (no, not trying to make another label =P), but not an arg. Of course maybe they'll still do some kind of argish experience, that would be great... but this sort of delivery is a popular marketing trend these days.

No need for a new term

It's called "maven marketing" by us publicity pros. Wink

First time venturing out of the Flynn Lives section. Hi.

Usually it seems 42 Entertainment starts their campaigns a little over a year out. Dark Knight started at Comic-Con roughly 1 year before the release and Flynn Lives started at Comic-Con 1 year and 5 months before the release. That being said, IF 42 Entertainment is doing one for GL it'll be a short one.

Though I had the pieces for Dark Knight, I never partook, and the Flynn Lives ARG has been amazing, I'd love to do a Green Lantern one, maybe starting with transmissions from space oooh. Or, signing up at Ferris Aircraft to be a test pilot. Anyway, we shall see. It is WB/DC so a chance I guess, and for being a not so common character, it might help to do it.

Was about to say something similar; it's a horrible practice, makes you feel dirty just doing it. And hell, we're in marketing, it's not like we had a soul left to begin with.

Yeah... kinda questioning my vocation at the moment. Is it obvious?
