Got the following email from MW:
Quote:
I sent this note to the press office of the Walker:
Karen -
The reason I am writing this is to clear something up.
There is a rumor floating around the Internet of the theft of a 13th Century Tapestry from the Walker. I know you are chiefly a Museum of Modern Art, but I just wanted to make sure that the rumor was untrue. I wouldn't be writing this note, except it came from an authoritative source.
Memory Warrior
Alexandria, VA
To which she replied:
Dear Memory Warrior:
First, I want to thank you for your interest in the Walker Art Center.
The Walker Art Center does not have in its collection any tapestry of any kind. We had a tapestry that fits your general description. It was hanging on the former Curator's wall. It disappeared during the transition last April, but it definitely was not stolen.
So much for your 'rumor'.
For our patrons scattered throughout the U.S. and the world, we're having a Live Webcast on December 2, 2010 at 7:00 PM about Walter Hood, Who founded Hood Design in 1992, in Oakland, California. It is a studio committed to issues that address the reconstruction of urban landscapes within towns and cities.
I hope you'll watch this special event. There are some other items of interest, for example Art on Call has podcasts so that you won't miss the happenings at the Walker Art Center.
Once again, thank you for your interest in the Walker Art Center.

[Trailhead?] "The Order's" Tapestry
...for Plato's Cave, apparently. Mods: Please merge

I really don't know what to make of this, but since there isn't any other reason for me to receive this, I have to assume it's a trailhead. But I do have my doubts.

Received a letter in the mail today. No name on the sender, but it's postmarked from Alexandria, Virginia. The address is of a residence, so I'm not going to post it here until it's deemed relevant. It came addressed to my name, not my alias.

It's a timeline regarding "The Order's" Tapestry, dating back to 1265 all the way to 1986, detailing how many times said tapestry has changed hands.

At the top of the document is the following in Italics:

Quote:
I have compiled this historical reference from various sources and my own researches.
- Dr. Ibrahim Al-Asri

I will post the letter in full soon. The letter mentions several names, and a casual search on Google comes up empty, so I have no idea what this is about.

The last entry makes reference to the tapestry being on display at the Museum of Fine Arts in Minneapolis.

Anyone else receive a similar letter?

Here is the letter in full. I've done my best to replicate it exactly as it appears.

Quote:
I have compiled this historical reference from various sources and my own researches.
- Dr. Ibrahim Al-Asri

The Story of "The Order's" Tapesty

1265 - The Council of Elders for the Order decided that they should have a tapestry woven to commemorate the successful outcome of the Visit in the year of our Lord, 1264.

As always they turned to one of ther own members to have the task of finishing it. The Member of the Order that was chosen to do this was an expert weaver and his Order Name was Umbra Obscura. He started the design the very same year, and worked on it until his death in 1290. His real name was later discovered by me to be mr. Cornelius Dark.

1290 - The task was taken up by his son, Hieronymus Dark.

1300 - Hieronymus contracted Tuberculosis in the winter of 1300, in spite of his illness he continued with his father's work.

1311 - The tapestry was finished when Hieronymus was 41 years old, where it was last displayed upon the wall of the First of the Elders. His name was Heinrik von Weisaker.

1313 - Hieronymus finally succumbed to his illness.

1502 - The oenniless descendants of Heinrik sold it to the First of the Elders at the time, Lord Pentian (Order name). Not much is known about him, except that he had a curiously long thumb. It was obviously genetic and dominant because his son's all had it.

1502 to 1640 - The tapestry was inherited by the eldest of each successive generation, until it was unknowingly sold by the widow of Lord Pentian's great-grandson, Lord Pentian V.

1640 - The tapestry was sold to a Mr. Peccary of London, where he had it on display in his rare items shop that was called, The Old Curiosities Shop.

1642 - There it laid gathering dust until one Admiral Benjamin Benbo happened to find that the tapestry fit quite nicely over a crack in the wall of his house.

1701 - John Bembo, who inherited it upon his father's death, sold it immediately to pay off his gambling debts. He auctioned it off with the rest of the contents of his father's house. He auctioned it off to an anonymous bidder.

1930 - It was 'lost' for over 200 years until it showed up in America at a bankruptcy auction for a financier who had gone bust when the markets fell. Where it was purchased by an attorney named Charles Dalton.

1961 - It was inherited by his eldest son, Nicholas who in turn handed it down to his son, Peregrine.

1986 - Peregrine donated it to the Museum of Fine Arts in Minneapolis, where it can be seen in all its glory to this day. Museum officials say that every year since 1986 no fewer than ten people try to buy it; the museum has refused all of the offers.

ETA: Let the record show that there does not appear to be a "Museum of Fine Arts" in Minneapolis; closest thing I could find is the "Minneapolis Institute of Arts", "Walker Art Center" and others. Although Google does come up with results for that, it's not on Google Maps.

That seems similar to both ARGs I'm currently following. 'Wonderland or Bust' features an Order located in Minneapolis and there is a stolen ancient tapestry in 'Plato's Cave'. It apparently belonged to Walker Art Center located there as well.

I believe it belongs to the 'Plato's Cave' game though, as it's mentioned that the tapestry was made in 13th century and the connection to the other game seems fairly weak.

Damn it, yes... It looks to be from Plato's Cave. Sender is in Alexandria, Virginia.

I really do wish they would make the connection clear... This is the second or third time it happens to me with this game. Can't the PMs figure it out that, although I'm happy to post it, at least make it clear what it relates to, especially since I haven't posted in the PC thread in a month? I searched for all the names and came up blank here.

*sigh...*

Mods, merge please. Rolling Eyes

PMs, I know you're reading this...

1) Next time, when you send something, please make it clear what it's related to if it's for an existing game.

2) I don't know where the address on the envelope is from, but the retired gentleman running an Interior Decorating business from that house in Virginia probably doesn't appreciate it. Since, in the matter of minutes, I found the REAL PERSON'S name, email address, Twitter account, property value, amount he donated to the Democratic Party and more... Forgive me if I won't post the address.

Letter has no name, but has an address (which I will not make public) in Alexandria, Virginia.

Here's the full text of the letter I received:

OpPrIn
Trailhead

Just got added on Facebook by Evas Opsianou, employed by Opsianoú Prokeiménou Informatics.

Thinking "Hmm, that sounds trailheady" I Googled his company and got one hit. From Craigslist New York, dated yesterday:

Volunteers needed for memory research. Apply to Opsianoú Prokeiménou Informatics (OpPrIn).

I'm thinking the name might be an anagram of 'Save' somebody, but I can't figure out who.

Evas has one friend other than me; Junior Lopez. Anyone want to lay claim before I investigate?

Also, we have contact info:

I got "friended" by this person as well, so it's safe to say it's not a coincidence.

ETA: Alexandria, Virginia seems to be a popular place... I received a mail from there relating to Plato's Cave. My guess it's related.

Another tail to Plato's Cave?

Someone's trying desperately to become Chaotic Fiction; I'd actually long since given up on the game, too. Grrr.

It does seem like it could be related to Plato's Cave. I sent the contact an e-mail saying I was interested.

Thanks!

If you look through the forum, there's a Puppetmaster Help section; there's a thread in there where you can add your info to the list. Better yet, put your e-mail address in your profile and just be super active around the place. That's how I got most of my trails.

Right, my e-mail trail with Evas (Just in case this isn't Plato's cave):

Hi Evas,

We can come to you if you register on our web site - it's not finished, but it will be available soon.

Hi Evas,

Thanks for adding me on Facebook; I took the liberty of Googling you and your company (I don't like to add anybody I don't know unless they seem sound) and I discovered that your company is looking for volunteers for memory experiments. Can anyone take part or do they have to be in Virginia?

Obviously, the bottom e-mail is first.

This is definitely Plato's Cave.

I spoke to Evas on Facebook; he reacted (evasively) when I asked about Dr Schreber, and the name of the company, transliterated into English, is 'Obsidian Order Informations'.

Nighthawk posted the same mail I got, so I didn't bother posting it up. Wink

Also, as noted in the other thread, new happenings have popped up. Evas Opsianou on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001854379266) and his company, Opsianoú Prokeiménou Informatics (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Opsianou-Prokeimenou-Informatics/163147613721390) - there's a volunteer form link on the business page.

Tellingly, the business name translates in English to 'Obsidian Order Informations'.

Memory Warrior has also appeared on facebook, going by 'Myrome Wirraor' (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001905019759)

I was also sent this bar code to translate, but I can't figure out a software way to decode it. Anyone have the ability?
