Did you get the password off the stamp?

I was just talking with CA in the chat-room, he's hoping to hear from you soon, and expressed concern! Wink

Yeah. I messed that comment up. I meant to log out and log back in as Esk, got distracted, etc., etc. If it can be deleted, feel free to do so and I'll log in properly and try again. Rolling Eyes Sometimes I wonder about my brain...

There's a new page up on Vyew. CA is asking for help translating a note he took from Evas:
Quote:
dans Bruxelles, Belgique a trouver quelqune qui semb
The last word is incomplete. Here are my thoughts:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Translating all but the last word got me: in Brussels, Belgium to find someone that. As for the last word, according to Oxford Language Dictionaries Online (and confirmed by Credo Reference), the only French words (I could find) beginning with "semb" are semblable (similar), semblant (semblance or to pretend), and sembler (to seem).
If you disagree with any of my translations, please correct me! If I get no corrections, I'll send this to CA via Vyew later today/this evening.

@Tiffany48,
Your translation is pretty accurate.

The french from that note is not the best (looks like Google translate or something to me), so some things I added to your translation might be reading a bit to much into the message but here it is anyway as I would have translated it :

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
litteral Translation of the original sentence : in Brussels, Belgium to find someone(female) who (seems)
1. "dans Bruxelles" should actually have been "à Bruxelles" in french if it is supposed to mean "in Brussels"
2. "a trouver" would have been phrased "pour trouver" -> "to find" or "pour chercher"->"to look for"
3. "quelqu'une" probably wouldnt have been used that way as this feminine form of "quelqu'un" it is pretty rarely used. Might suggest though that you are looking for a woman (or it might just be a translation error)
Freely translated it still means "somebody" though, only with differentiation between male and female
4. "qui semble"-> "who seems " is what I consider the most likely for the missing word too. It could make sense depending on the context but it does not necessary have to, depending on what the author meant.
A similar word could have been "qui resemble" -> "who looks like". This could be considered a possibility too considering the rest of the note.

(of course those are just my thoughts, and i'm pretty sure i'm overanalyzing things, so I would go with your translation alltogether Wink)

They're not part of the same sentence. It's two lines torn from the middle of a document, I think.

One line: '...dans Bruxelles, Belgique...'. Presumably something about Brussles, Belgium.

The other fragment is '...à trouver, quel'qune qui semb--' And the last word is cut off.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I showed it to a french-canadian friend of mine, who says that it's something along the lines of 'found/to find something which resembled..' as her best guess.

I finally reached CA on Vyew! He found part of a journal entry (check out page 6) and wanted help finding the journal itself. He found a safe in the floor of Evas' office but someone interrupted him. He left suddenly, and I haven't heard from him since (but it hasn't been long). I don't know if he got into the safe or not.

I spoke with CA just a few minutes ago. He is OK! He is trying to figure out the combination to the safe. He wants to try the date the Strangers contacted Daniel. Does anyone have an exact date? I haven't really looked yet as I'm at work.
Anyway, I also received my second assignment:
Quote:
Dear Ms. Jones,

This is your next assignment, failure to finish any part of this assignment will prevent you from "levelling up" your security rating.

Read through the following, and comment on it:

"The truth is a relative matter and can assume any shape possible. Memories can be even more malleable. So if one wanted to justify the ends by the means it would be exceptionally easy by using these precepts. If one wanted to justify experimenting on animals it would be justifiable, even beneficial, but what is man but an animal after all. When the stakes are high does one shy away from so-called "ethics", or does one do the truly memorable thing. By which name shall we call him? Hero, maniac, or a dedicated scientist?

As I said, memories can be malleable, what is it that makes up memory? Engrams? or does the Soul? What was done was done for a reason, to answer the age-old question what is it to be human? Not just human, but what separates us from animals?"

This is an excerpt from a speech made by Evas Opsianou at the Council of Elders in 2009.

Yours Truly,

Your Advisor

Constantin Atrum
I haven't responded yet.

My response to my second assignment:
Quote:
We need only read human history to realize how malleable ethics is - from the multiple movements associated with ethics to the evolution of ethics within each movement and societies worldwide. Many actions once considered ethical are now branded as unethical, such as slavery, and vice versa, and it is rational to assert that ethics will continue to evolve. If evolution is "a movement or change of position" then there must be a catalyst for such a change (OED). This catalyst will, of course, appear to be unethical at first since the catalyst will be acting against current definitions of ethical actions, but as the evolution process completes the catalyst can be vindicated and even revered. So, a catalyst can behave contrary to current ethics in order to stimulate the evolution of ethics, but it must also have a need to evolve in order to serve a purpose and not simply for the sake of making a change.
In the particular case of ethics and the progression of research, I believe it is important to note the nature of the research and the limitations of using current ethical standards. Current ethical standards prohibit human experimentation when the experiments are overly detrimental to individual humans, but it could be argued this standard should evolve to include allowing experiments detrimental to individual humans when the research can only progress by using humans. Whether one argues that memories are made up of engrams or a soul, both are unique to humans; according to all major religions, animals do not possess souls, and engrams are, logically, passed on through breeding, which is species-specific. Therefore, with this kind of research it is unreasonable expect any experiments conducted on animals to be valid for humans. While basic research on memory might be amenable to cross-species experiments, the research being conducted in this particular case is too detailed and human-specific to fall into that category. Therefore, ethics should evolve to include experimentation on humans that may be detrimental to individual humans when such experimentation is necessary to complete research as in this case.

I believe we've lost CA.

He sent out emails today saying that he'd been discharged by OPI for violation of the NDA, and his real name was Marc Hines.

I went onto the site to talk to him. He'd found a memo that was basically a smoking gun for them getting Monahan into office - he uses the alias Ivan Umbra.

I passed on the memo to Ivan Molinero, and he joined the conference, saying he was passing the memo on to Interpol. Shortly after that, someone showed up at CA's door, he turned the mic on so we could hear, and there was some - sound. Like he'd been stunned or something. Then he vanished from the chat.

Molinero said he'd be putting a transcript on the site.

Well, that explains the phone calls. I just received two calls - I 'm not sure what was going on during the first call, but after catching up on my reading I think I heard part of CA's kidnapping. However, I took it for a prank call and hung up and didn't answer the second time. I was left a message:

Sleep now.

MW's (most likely) final post is here. Thanks to the incriminating evidence found by CA, OPI has been shut down! Great work everyone! There will be a celebration via Vyew Sunday, March 6 from 5-8pm (usually EST); I received a Facebook invite to it. Hope to see you there!
