Movie Theater Viral Marketing

Has anyone seen any movie theaters advertising tron legacy?

There is a marcus theater by me that usually does these big promotions for movies. They decorate the building, play games and give stuff away. I haven't seen any other theaters that do that kind of stuff.

They have a display up for tron right now and it looks like there is one of those barcode things next to the display. I think they are doing viral stuff but I dont have a app on my phone to decode it.

It probably isn't part of Flynn Lives but it could still be cool. I'll try to get a photo of it next time I watch a movie.

A photo would be cool, but chances are it will lead to the main disney Tron page rather than the cool. I recall something similar over here in the UK for Day X exists.

Yeah, movie promotions like that used to be very widespread. I was part of a management team that did them for AMC and another local theater chain about ten years back and we won national awards with trips to DreamWorks and other cool events. Sadly they have now become a thing of the past as no theater chains are willing to spend the resources or man hours on them and the studios stopped giving out any good prizes like they did in the days of Project Picture. Some theater managers still do them for their patrons but that's more on a theater by theater basis. If you have a theater locally that does them, appreciate that. That usually means that that particular theater has a very caring manager or management staff that is in the business for more than just the buck, but for a love of the films and their customers.

I would go to the theater and ask to speak to the manager who is in charge of executing that promotion. Chances are more than likely they will be happy to talk to you about what they are doing as we always used to appreciate customer involvement in our promotions back when I did them. Might even be an opportunity to ask them about snagging yourself one of the cool Tron Legacy shirts Disney has been sending out to theaters the past couple weeks. Smile

Has anyone seen any promo stuff in theaters? I'd really like an idea of what is going to be there before heading down to my local one and asking if they'd be kind enough to help a fan out. And is there etiquette for that?

Did we need to start another thread for this?

I saw this at my local Galaxy cinema in Cambridge, Ontario.

The wheels lit up blue from time to time. Sorry about the quality.

This is pretty much standard promotional material for the movie. I've seen one at all 3 major theaters in my are here in Fresno/Clovis, CA area...

They have the same light cycle display at the theater I went too. I doubt the barcode thing takes you to the disney page because it had an encom logo on it.

I will take a photo this week because I am going to go and watch the avatar re-release on Friday.

Oh yeah, I guess I should mention the theater in case anyone else happens to live in the same area and want to get a picture before me. It is the Marcus Crosswoods cinema in Columbus OH.

I was told a similar one is in the Tempe Marketplace Harkin's Theatre in Arizona. The picture shown above is exactly as it was described to me.

Well the next event I know of will be at Fan Expo. Bunch of people are going to the panel. There going to show some footage and stuff apparently.

Yep, I will be in attendance at FanExpo Fri-Sun. I'm fairly confident there won't be any Flynn Lives-related happenings, but Tron will be there, with 3D footage and whatnot. Worth the visit Smile

The Space channel is going to have a booth there. If you have the time stop by and ask them why Hyperspace has not touched the Flynn Lives campaign. It seemd like the kind of thing that they would do a report about but AFAIK they haven't even metioned it. I'm just curious to know why.

Good question Dan. I too would like to know where said "Encom logo" and barcode are located on this standee. I recently visited two movie theaters in the Washington D.C. area and both had the same standee. Neither had a barcode or Encom logo. I believe you may be yanking our chains about that OEsuperman. Please provide a picture of the standee with the logo and barcode.
