Punch Card Translation

Sorry wanted to post this the RP is Open but can't use my Guest Workaround for some reason and New Topic is working for me

The puch cards on the 2 forms seem to translate - at least the one from the Cadet form the othe one apopes to be Gibberish - So I find it more than telling that one appears to work.

Take a look

Yellow = Space
Red is Cant Decode

I also translated a number but No know area code... to use with it

Nice work there! I got screwed up somewhere along the line working on it, looks good to me.

Now to see if it actually means anything.

The recruit punchcard is jibberish from my reading too. I got the exact same reading from the candidate card. I called those seven digits putting 1-800 behind it but it said the number is no longer in use and to use a different number. I really doubt that's an IG avenue. Frankly, I don't think the producers put any thought into the punchcards.

I know little to nothing about script and any kind of coding, but I think calling classes has something to do with script? This might be a big jump, and sorry if this isn't even possible, but could calling a class or some of these numbers have something to do with the PDP-11 "DEVICE?" :/

If it does have to do with the DEVICE? prompt, STIES hasn't been updated yet to let us put it in. I checked the SWF earlier today, and there's still no valid device.

Call Class
(From Google Talk)

Google Talk wrote:
CALL CLASS
A wrapper object in the voice chat example that bundles groups of Session objects into a single chat connection. It provides wrapper methods to handle adding or removing sessions, muting, and monitoring. It also manages creating a new VoiceChannel object (which wraps a P2PTransportChannel object and a MediaChannel) and associating that with each session. This object is created by PhoneSessionClient. To destroy it, call PhoneSessionClient::DestroyCall (the Call object calls this automatically when a Session is removed and the Session count reaches zero). The methods shown are not thread-safe, and can be called on any thread.

May be some help?

Probably not. What you linked to is a reference for programmers on how to interact with Google Talk. Code that provides a lot of functions related to one thing is called a "class". Class names do not have to be unique. Therefore, there are probably a whole bunch of "call" classes.

It's hard to say exactly what this translation means, assuming it's correct. The translation is based on 9-row punch cards, but we have 3-row punch cards here.

If it does have anything to do with the game, could Call "Class" mean like a military rank? Like Private "First Class" or whatever?

Ok Here is my full case for this

Ok Here is my case – from what I have seen almost all Punch cards have the 10 lines to account for 0-9. All except the IBM EBCDIC uses only Capital Letters. But It also Still Works. Only the IBM 26 series (comm and fort) use Smaller/different Symbol sets - so we loose the &.

So with Numbers as constants on all and Alphas being constant on all but one type I feel sure it was placed there – Now what do we do with it?
I also want to point out the Full registration card past being Gibberish does not even line up so it can't be read - I tried again with lower/Upper case EBCDIC and Still Gibberish and 4 of Chars that will not even decode at all.
Lastly for anyone saying " it don't have 10 lines" Who Cares it is not using them and nothing else would.
Using even the Few symbols that would fit if we had all the lines CALL becomes( .A,,) - Gibberish
Punch Card History here - http://www.cs.uiowa.edu/~jones/cards/history.html
Her is the 2 Full Alphabets, and detail showing how the one does not even line up along with the candidate section superimposed on a Full card
Again – Thought was used to do this – Is it important - I think so but may be wrong
One more not e on class – Cadet Class, Ship Class, Fleet Class
SSF1 – Us CCF1 – Cooper (see Image) CCF1 can be done in HEX but does not help SSF1 on phone is 7731 – who knows but I do feel CALL – CLASS&AAAT21T was place for us to find

That's some hefty research, nicely done.

Does the maze from the original STIES documents apply here at all? Still refuse to believe that was pointless. >.<

If I get the gist of your question, it hasn't directly applied to the game yet. That doesn't rule it out for future relevance, but I don't think any specific game clue or play has been linked directly back to it.

At the very least, it contributed to the retro vibe of the RP ad campaign directed at kids in a 50s/60s style consistent with the newspaper's context.
