Those really look gorgeous. Thank you for putting in all this effort for everyone. And I wouldn't worry about the no points too much. I for one will want to pick them up and fondle them. Having the bit not cut my hand is not a bad thing.

Re: Master Set Completed!!!
They LOOK BAD ASS!!!

shaved_ape wrote:
So here is the master set, they are enroute to Steve and awaiting the molding process.

The only thing that happened was that the "no" bit was crazy difficult to model.

The points on the long tendrils were extremely fine and they said that they hadn't really lasered anything out that fine before and it never really survives the process but this one did. A couple of the lips popped up by hardly noticeable. Steve's guy will either fix it or round down the other ones to match. Other than that these came out PERFECT!!!

I have gorilla huge hands so me putting my hand next to these don't do them justice. They are 5" squared and each one is equivalent to the size of a SOFTBALL!!!

They came out so great I can't wait to see them in color.

Talk to SoCal Steve

I'm a very eager maybe & just trying to work out if I can afford them.
When do you need an exact answer by?

We definitely don't want to leave people in the dark if they really want a set. Me and Steve have put our own money into these and neither one of us are rolling so as I speak for myself I have put in all I can to make this work.

I would say that to help up put in a deposit to Steve, whatever he decides the amount is. But that would reserve one for yourself and allow him to have the money to make the molds well and to shoot them out in plastic.

The "no" "geometric answer" will be cast in red plastic, the "neutral" "geometric answer" will be cast in blue, and the "yes" "geometric answer" will be cast in yellow.

That way they are durable you can drop them and nothing should happen.

We aren't making a killing on these we were talking about using any profits to possibly just do a second run.

So I would say if you want a set simply throw down 33% ($35?) which is the cost of one and it would reserve you a set.

Talk to Steve though. I hope we don't get sued, each one is different than the zero hour one. The neutral "geometric answer" has about 3-5 different morph shapes and I chose that one because it's the one I liked best.

It will be a month or two at least before we have these ready to ship out so if you leave a deposit I am pretty sure that should seal yours in. If it takes a minute for you to get the money to Steve for the set than I don't think that will be a problem. Once again you must pay for shipping. I have no problem sending them overseas, USPS is rather cheap for that and once they are plastic you shouldn't get them damaged.

Talk to Steve though. Let's figure out how to do this. Once again we were hoping to use the profits to do a second run.

A question or request for you guys.

I put a lot of effort into this, Steve will be putting a lot of effort into this.

But for all the 3d modeling, the phone calls for connections, and time put into these, would someone be willing to send me one of the "official" Flynn's arcade shirts and an 89 pin & stickers?

They are the only two things missing from my collection. Once again I want to put all the Flynn Lives Swag into a shadow box next to our Tron Arcade machine and now that I don't need the bits and I would rather have the life size replica of the Identity Disc than the sdcc one, I would definitely see if someone would be willing to help out.

I am from Texas so my philosophy is always to give someone more bang for their buck, (sometimes) bigger is better and I definitely like these more because they are bigger.

I think it would be fun to have a contest to see who can make their own custom display base for these. Don't hold me to this...But whoever could make the best base, maybe we would mold it and send it with the next set.

Just a fun idea.

Re: List of people interested.
I am just doing this for my own sake.

I am a CGI modeler, and very impressed with the size you managed to get these prints in, and the fact that you said the prints would cost less make than the silicone molding and casting resins needed to make copies from the master rp prints.

So obviously I have to ask what company did those prints for you. I've been seeking out a cost effective RP company for ages now, and two issues are always everpresent.

Most of the RP places that are cost effective use system setups that can't handle high polycount models. I'm an organic face and creature bust sculptor. so I'm seeking RP companies that can handle high polycount models for detail/texture and shape reasons.

The RP companies that can handle objects with up to 20 million polys, charge more money, and I dont fully understand why since I thought cost was based on material used. Not object resolution.

I'm a size whore when it comes to my art. Most of the places I've been looking at than can work with 20 million polygon sized objects want more than $300 for prints over 5 inches in height depending on the material thickness of the model.
Please let me know who you used. Thanks

Only 13 slots left.

The faster we get all of these reserved the faster we can get them out. Thanks for all your support and let's get these things out.

I always liked how these Bit papercraft looked, including the base/stand. Might be an option?

I need some help with this
Please someone tell me you can do this.

Some people are saying they wish they could afford these and I want to comply. I have the 3d models and will submit them to shapeways as 2" I sent in the files at 3" and they are still $50.

So I am wanting to know if someone out there has a 3d program other than Maya. I need to take the .obj file or the .dfx file and have them sized down and exported as an .stl file so that I can submit them.

I am not sure how much they would cost yet so someone please pm me if you can do this.

These are the file formats they accept and I need someone to take the 5" squared models and size them down to 2". (.stl, .dae, .x3d, .x3db, wrl)

Then export them into one of those files so the people here who can't afford $100 can still get a set. Fortunately, this company will print in color and I can set it up to where these are in color.

You can upcharge on your models which I plan on doing slightly, nothing great. But all the money will go into making more of the bits, I promise. and I don't plan on actually doing this til the first run of bits are out.

Anyways, please someone tell me you can do this, someone here knows that much at least.

Good news.
Depostits will be taken soon and...

Me and Steve talked about it, and to those that leave a deposit, one lucky person will get their set for free, the deposit will more than likely be used to pay for shipping and you will be refunded the difference.

I will write down all the names and draw one name from a hat and you will receive your set for free!

Steve is getting quotes within the next week for the molds and plastics so we will keep you updated.

As far as the pins go.... I cant wait to see how those would look as well.
I would be interested in those too.

I have to say the creativity of the group is awesome!

More updates

I am posting updates often because we are trying to get this done pretty fast.

I talked to Steve and he thinks we may be ready to ship in one month, he should post soon to give more details.

And to add to the swag of the lucky winner, I will be donated one XL Flynn Lives Shirt, one coaster, and one coca cola foil card.

So the lucky winner will receive One free set of bits, one XL Flynn Lives Shirt, one end of line club coaster, and one coca cola foil card!

We need 5 more names for this to go faster.

All those that are on the list confirm again if you can.

heyry I don't post much anymore. It's hard for me to post. I'm sure some of you don't mind. Lol. Anyway, hers the scoop. Looks like we will probably see an 89 pin at the disney stores. Also, looks like the pin guys have the achievement badges sitting on their desk as a pin suggestion as well.

as of yesterday, the "3D geometric shapes" were at the toy studio. These guys are the same guys that make the world of warcraft figures. Not the little figures, the big 12" figures.

looking for a couple more interested parties before I give them the green light. I've been told these babies are gonna be sweet.

Hi, I'd definitely be down for a set.

This is actually my first post as a registered user, but I've been lurking here all year. I made a few posts as a guest, so hopefully I can be more active now that I actually went through and got registered :)

Taking deposits
need just a few more

I have started sending pm's for deposits.

We have 10 spots left. We need to hit a certain mark $-wise to immediately pick these up when they are completely finished. Me and Steve are not making a lot of money on this, if we end up doing a second set, we will have the molds and the next set will be when we would see profits.

As of now, we have spent a lot of money out of pocket and are almost taking a hit getting these done.

So if you are wanting a set, $100 is the number we came up with for us to break even and the most pathetic thing is that it costs us triple to have the molds and plastic than it was for the actual masters to be made.

So ladies and gentlemen of this great forum, if you want a set, these are the highest quality they could be, even more so than the Flynn Lives bits that were sent out. If you look at them closely you will see somewhat jagged layers, that is because it was done with an older style machine for 3d printing.

These "geometric answers" we have done, were done on a much more accurate machine, they are bigger, and absolutely gorgeous.

The magic you feel when you hold these is the same you feel when you hold a master replicas lightsaber from star wars. It definitely brings back a sense of longing to be close to an object from a movie that is part of all of our pasts, and that is the same feeling I want all of you to have.

Don't hesitate to grab a set if you are wanting one, once again we are hoping that we may be able to do another set, but if not, this is a great item to have if you are a fan.

the "geometric answer" no is being repaired so that all the points are sharp and consistent so that they look perfect. We were luckier than hell that it survived the process as I was told that they had never lasered out anything that had edges like that. You really are getting top quality here.

PM me for details or with any questions you have.
