Back to the initial post in this topic... Hi danteIL, I just wanted to provide my thoughts on your post (got a little off topic there for a bit - and I know some of what I say has already been said. Just guess I'm trying to reenforce the point):
I think the very nature of an ARG is to be "fractured" - or segregated from the rest of the world. It's its own reality to a point, so why should those who aren't a part of that reality know what's going on with it every second. MH was my first ARG (MH2 is my second funnily enough), and the only way I was able to start playing that was by going back to the start and playing from the beginning. It was too much information to even try to take in at the end, and the only way to make sense of all the posts and speculation was to actually go from one end to the other and experience it for myself.
I think this is how we got off topic (not really, just alternate topic) - because to solve this gripe of yours there needs to be more freely flowing information about what games are being played at the moment. I guess it just means that the best way to go about finding a game to immerse yourself in is to just go to a trailhead and start from there. Another idea could be to go check out ARGN's "Now Playing" section as they give a brief run down on each game - maybe they could chuck in a couple of mid-game reviews to give people an idea of how it's going. Also maybe a stat showing active players at the start and then a current count so you could see if the game became more or less popular.
Anyways, hope you find what you're looking for.

I've been having the same feelings about what used to be a great place to come to and forget the day. Now, I'm just not willing to do more than scan the forums and look for the random puzzle to play around with. I haven't seen a good story in a long time and don't want to commit to any games because so many just die with no warning or have way too much juvenile, unconsidered chatter.
You'll have to trust that this comment isn't as snarky as it appears at first blush; But...
I blame JJ Abrams.

Well, as much as NoMimes has been doing private corporate ARGs, we do have a tweet exchange between Steve and Michael Andersen (ARGN) today (ranting about "transmedia" in mainstream basically losing all meaning) that might be hinting at something more public coming up:
Quote:
SP: transmedia is dead to me
MJ: Take that up with the PGA.
SP: The world (including the PGA) shall know very soon. Everything. Is. About. To. Change.....

OTOH - if you're looking to write articles and report news, you could contact ARGN (Michael Andersen) and ask about joining the team They're always looking for more writers.
This.

What does the Professional Golfers Association have to do with it? (j/k i'm blanking on the correct acronym, but i assume it's a guild of some kind related to "the arts")

If we're taking guesses, I'd say SP was talking about:

Looks interesting, don't know how it's supposed to be a game changer - but certainly an intersting format.

So I do still check in here from time to time, and I am glad to see that my off-the-cuff thread has had some recent action
I have no useful further thoughts on my original complaint/observation (e.g., the "ambition" issue in particular), but it did occur to me that it might be useful to have some sort of "Player Report" subforum here that functions as a place where currently-involved players can write brief summaries/advertisements of games that they would like to 'get the word out' about. It could be pseudo-moderated in that the player would submit their game report to a mod who would then post it in the appropriate format, maybe with some standardized structure. The goal would be to serve as a place where motivated players could highlight what makes 'their' game interesting/worthwhile, along with enough information (but not too much -- reading overly-detailed reports of games that you are not involved in can be mind-numbing) that encourage others to want to check it out further. Also, maybe every game that goes from News & Rumor to Chaotic Fiction should be required to have something like this. It would also be useful when specific games reach important 'transition' points, like a new event or new phase in the story.
ARGN is useful up to a point, but it can't cover every game and is often written from an outsider perspective. Plus, for me personally, I am more likely to check here (out of habit) than anywhere else...
Just a thought.

I actually had more of a think about this and was thinking that maybe a kinda "Last week, in ..." kinda ... not youtube post but maybe sticky where a weekly update was made - like you said where players of said game submitted their view /recent developments so that
1: potential new players could quickly get up to date on what was happening and start playing sooner; and
2:it was promoting the game itself so that it keeps people intersted (also doesn't hurt if you've been without a computer for a while and can't play anymore).
Just a thought

Wow, totally forgot this post even existed.
Stay tuned kiddies, gimme until my bday and ARNN should be up and running as a fully fledged community news site. But I gotta squeeze that in with full time work, 2 subjects of uni, my life in general, and a couple of other ideas I have going through my head. But my b'day is mid march so should be possible (fingers crossed)
