PM Recruitment Area

On Cabal's excellent suggestion today in the "So You Wanna Be a PM" chat, I'm starting this thread so that people who are interested in becoming a PM can post their skills and contact information.

My status as of December 2005 - unavailable at this time.. too much life, not enough hours in the day! Wink

I'd love to get involved BTS. Some things I can do are:

- some HTML
- graphics manipulation with Photoshop
- research (Google Answers Researcher)
- writing, both prose and character interaction
- proofreading (exceedingly picky)
- maybe a few puzzle ideas
- clerical work (maintaining databases, information organization)
- basic knowledge of *nix and Windows
- extensive knowledge of Mac
- troubleshooting and finding solutions to all manner of problems, from technical to character related

Examples of my work and references are available upon request. That which I do not know I am happy to learn. You can contact me through PM on this board, on IRC, or by email at meSPLATaddlepated.net.

Pretty good with Photoshop (another one...)
Basic sound and video manipulation
Basic HTML
Basic programming skills (with some slightly wierd advanced bits)
Proofreading (notorious at work for picking documentation to bits)
Some slightly odd ideas but not the writing skills to do anything with them
In the photo biz, so access to some pretty reasonable kit for video & photo work

On the downside - in the UK so wrong time zone for most people here, not a huge amount of spare time. But still wanna help!

In many respects, that might be a bonus (we have players from all over the world).

*edit April 14, 2006. Currently not looking to be a main character or PM. I am willing to help proof read and trouble shoot story lines or methods of presentation and try give an honest opinion of where you might hit a snag. *

- Writing
-Proofreading
-Quality Control/continuity
-Edit/Rewrite
-Characterization
- Research, Research, Research

P.S. Biology knowledge base

Credits:
Acheron: Police documents
Aware: Melody Heller, character interactions and most of the news stories under her byline at the Amboy Monthly
Orbital Colony: a main PM assisted with story, continuuity, station background development, troubleshooting. Main writer for several characters Steve Mae, Dr. Marth Crappert, Cassandra Scarpe, e-mail, blogs and chat.

*edited for new things as needed*

Currently I am a bit squeezed during the week for "chat time" Mondays to Thursdays I am limited to 7:30 pm to 9:45 pm Eastern US (yeah, some days it sucks to work), Fridays I am usually around from 7:30pm/8pm to Whenever (I start falling asleep at the desk around 3 to 4 AM), Saturdays 11 am to Midnight (Eastern), Sundays 11am to 9:45 pm.

I like to write and have been known to break those hours when writting... (ps I like using word processors with a spelling correction function so the finished product looks a lot better than my messages here... )

*edited for experience, changes to times available, and because I don't always spell correctly the first time.

Konamouse squeaks the truth. You might have a leg up on the European ARG market. Instead of pointing your resources so that they assuage the folks in the Colonies, you might end up being the toast of the Continent.

Another option - getting in league with our prominent Italian player.

Thanks for the encouragement - much appreciated. My biggest concern was more to do with being able to contribute in chat etc - however one of the things from last nights chat that encouraged me is that it seems I'm not the only one who's IRC-challenged!

I actually really like the idea of a truly international ARG - a clue in London leading to a find in LA, a find in Stockholm leading to a character in Oz.... The possibilities are huge, but so are the challenges. My biggest worry would be financing it, but again from the chatlog it looks like these things can be done on a budget, without sacrificing the quality of the game, if enough blood sweat and tears are poured into the effort. Of course, at the moment the sum total of my plan consists of "wouldn't an international game be cool!". Guess I need to put a bit more thought into it Shocked

Out of curiosity - anyone any idea if many Europeans frequent these (and other ARG-related) boards? Curious to know what my potential audience is like, size wise.

- Windows
- some HTML and webdesign
- rusty C/C++ programming - it's been a few years
- artistic skills - drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, pretty much anything you want made I can do as long as it's not metalworking...
- writing
- movie filming and editing (with a few amateur actor friends)
- I have some puzzle ideas
- mish-mash of knowledge and books in various subjects like Anthropology, Archaeology, Magic, Astrology, Forensics, video games...
- good supply of strange props like mannequins, foreign knick-knacks, toys...

*EDIT* - I'm also a stay at home mom so my schedule is pretty flexible.

I must be good at something, but what is it exactly?

What can I add?

I have no computer skills whatsoever so I may be a good person to test things out on.

I can respond to emails within character.

I have a pretty good sense of plot and characters and what people are likely to do in a given situation. And a sense of the crediblity gap. (For example, in the chat paranoia was mentioned as a good reason people hide information. Other reasons off the top of my head: illicit love affairs, white collar crime, subversive political activity, smuggling, arms sales.)

People in #acheron have to listen to me develop soap opera plots about the characters when things get quiet. You would be surprised at the stuff the characters do behind closed doors when no one is looking.

I can do research but never again anything relating to the Mayans or any apocalypse, which may rule me out completely for a future ARG.

I have an extensive knowledge of poetry, literature, history and art.

Any question relating to law you can ask, I can find the answer for you.

I have translated a dictionary from French to English and edited a book on corporate transactions, so you could try out my writing skills.

I am he who knows:

-*nix
-Doze
-Mac
-C, Perl, HTML, Shell Scripting, Java
-Sysadmin, DBA, Netadmin, Security

And a host of other stuff. Suffice to say, if it's composed of ones and zeros, I've probly toyed with it once or twice.

+'s
* writing
* proof-reading
* plot-creation
* puzzle creation
* I am close friends with a professional theatre/clothing designer, who also owns a pretty snazzy digital camera. Ergo, I can (with some notice) provide photos/images of in-game characters in almost any outfit/uniform/appearance.
* Apart from work, can donate decent amounts of time.

-'s
* poor, so can't contribute much $$
* Australian, so difficult to synchronise chats with US based PM's/players.
* n0 w3b sk1llz (oh, I hate *myself* for that!)
