The problem with El Capitan is it is not an IMAX venue, just a nromal screen.
all my friends used to make similar statements about IMAX being the only way to see movies. I could never tell the difference,so I did some researrch. Found out most IMAX screens are the same size as regular screens. Most often they take out the front 2 rows and move the screen closer. So in theory you could go to any theater and just sit two rows closer, lol. So make sure you know your IMAX theater is a "real" IMAX and not just a gimick.
Wow, what a scam! Does that mean if I sit a couple feet closer to my TV that I have an IMAX TV? Or just bad eyes. Shocked
The screens are "IMAX" in the sense that they're curved a bit and use IMAX's DMR technology. But the only way to get the true IMAX experience, you have to visit a museum. It's sp hard to find a theater with a real IMAX screen. I remember Aziz Ansari ranted on his twitter about IMAX being a scam when he went to see "The Dark Knight" back in '08 lol

Technically, an IMAX film is defined by the media used to actually film it (and thus the projector used to present it), not by the screen it's projected on. IF a theatre's projector is an IMAX projector and presents the film at full IMAX resolution, then screen size ultimately is the decision of the venue... you can in theory have a full IMAX presentation in a very intimate room.

But yes, for the best full IMAX experience, you should go to a theatre that includes a very very large concave screen, with the proper audio equipment to make full use of the entire range of IMAX technology. They're not just available in museums, but being expensive theatres they are still at this point few and far between.

I think south Ontario is lucky to have the IMAX theatres it does have. Plus IMAX tech is Canadian Smile as are Christie DLP projectors *double rainbow!*

Personally, I call my local IMAX screen a "Mini-max" IMAX, since they just converted one of their larger theaters into that format. It's a marginally bigger screen, and much better (or at least, louder) sound... but while it is technically a 'true' IMAX screen, it's not a "traditional" one.

This is crappy spam. I abuse forums and websites. Great tips! Great organization and ideas. This is my first time i visit here (and probably last). I found so many interesting stuff in your post, especially its discussion, which I obviously didn't read or care one whit about.

ebay tickets spamming

Edited for veracity, links broken. Next stop, oblivion. - E

Me and two friends bought our tickets as well. Also at TRON Night after talking to the people running the event we were guaranteed advance screening tickets for the film as well!!!!

Got my IMAX ticket in Signal Butte Dickinson Theater in Mesa AZ, this is the only DIGITAL PROJECTION IMAX in the state as far as i know. They were puzzled by the sudden sale authorization for now. I explained it and they wised up immediately.

I called them too, they have the "true" IMAX 79'? screen. What the F? The preview we saw, I had expected 3 stories of Tron and didn't even realize until now that we saw it on a regular screen.

I google'd "IMAX scam" and holy crap! Shocked Thanks for pointing that out davidnorell, I scored my tickets for the 11:55pm showing there on December 16th!
