I wonder if any of them used advanced editing programs such as Final Cut Pro or Adobe After Effects...

I do actually own all of the Adobe Creative Suite on my mac, everything's really fun to use, but I've not had the chance to Final Cut or After Effects :c

How I did it

I made a slenderman costume for Halloween what I did was use several things.
The face: I wear a face mask (of the kind you wear when using spray paint that can be bought at any hardware store), then I wear a dark colored balaklava(ski mask) and I bought some nylon leggings that match my skin tone cut them up and wear them over my face.
The paint mask round's my face making my nose and facial features less noticable the ski mask does the same for my eyes and is thick enough to make my face invisible the nylons give my face a flesh tone.

The suit: I bought a torn used suit from the goodwill used some old black clothing I had for material so that I could make the sleeves longer for the jacket and pants by sewing the material into the suits lining and wore a white shirt with a black tie.

The height: As a previous poster said Drywall stilts they are easy to come by but expensive (although you could luck out and know someone who will lend you them) they do take some getting used too and have the drawback that your slenderman will be without shoes (but who's going to be looking at his shoes anyway?)

Tentacles: using the same method used to extend the sleeves (taking similar colored material as the suit) make more sleeves and sew (or staple if you can't sew) them to the suit and attach gloves (fill them with something as well) to the sends of the sleeves.
you can also use paper mache.

Alternate: instead of the nylon mask you could also make a head from paper mache or whatever and put that on top of your shoulders with your head tucked inside of the jacket if you wanted too.

Hope this is helpful to someone.
