Just back from the Tron day event at the Birmingham (UK) IMAX.

First off, I was surprised at how low the turnout was. The theatre was about 1/3 full (maybe 200ish people). On a positive note it meant that no one had a bad seat. I was wearing my ENCOM badge and I saw at least a couple of dozen other people also wearing them.

There was no swag of any form, not even brochures for stuff, though it looked to me like a few people managed to get some of the actual posters that the IMAX was using for advertising purposes.

The footage was OK. Enough so that you didn't feel cheated, but not so much that you felt like you'd been exposed to anything major in the way of spoilers. The one thing it has convinced me to do is to watch it in 2D first. I can imagine that there will be some great 3D moments, but 2D will still be my preferred initial viewing.

At the end of the preview there was a smattering of applause from perhaps a dozen people, but it soon died out. Us British are a conservative bunch and it's going to take more than a few teaser sequences to get most of us applauding.

All in all, much better than my usual Thursday night entertainment. Smile

Well I am officially first at Navy Pier. Got here just before security. They have a Tron cabinet set up too.

Edit: security just told theater employees they will be constantly making announcements in line for everyone to take cellphones to their cars. Just a heads-up as they seem like they will be sticking to that.

The Leicester Square (London) audience were a bit more raucous than your audience, statto! About 2/3 full maybe...

No swag to speak of - but it was great to see the sneak peek anyway.

There is swag here at Concord Mills, NC. I'm watching them unpack it onto a table right now.

There's a throwback style poster of Sam w/ disk, some cards and wristbands of course. I'm also trying to decide which is nerdier of me, arriving before they even began set up or posting about the swag as it is being unpacked.

(Also, my +1 has been filled but the AMC guy here says this theatre doesn't normally fill for these kinds of events).

EDIT: Also, security is super heavy, no phones or laptops allowed in at all. not even with battery removed. Thankfully the nice lady informed me early.

Just come back from the Southampton (UK) screening - round about a 50mile trip Laughing

Similar feelings to most - footage was ok, not stunning, but not chock fulla spoilers. Felt the 3D didn't really work as well as I thought it would, but on the whole the feeling of depth was certainly there. Now I know we're not going to come to this for the acting, and these were scenes taken out of context, but I'm a little worried about Sam Flynn in the film. A little bit wooden....maybe rumours of reshoots were right after all...

Little bummed that the UK misses out on any swag - YET AGAIN!! - along with some of you other guys. Would a postcard have been too much to ask for after the heavy security warnings about filming?

But hey, did enough to get me excited - and the new world of Tron looks like it'll be a fun ride....

Sorry I missed you Tyler! The line was HUGE when I got there and doubled before they let us in.

I loved the footage, watching disc wars felt like my eyes were having sex with something so awesome I don't even know what it was, and I did really enjoy the Sam/Kevin scene, it was nice to see some solid focus on the father/son aspect of the story and get some proper emotion in there, it would be quite easy for that to get lost amongst all the lightcycles and disc wars and derezzing going on. I'll get a ticket as soon as I'm humanly able to.

All east coast screenings should be over by now.

Orlando Checking in

It was good... some new footage that we didn't see at Comic-Con, some footage that has recently been posted on Apple's site.

Swag: TL Poster and Two advertising things (Daft Punk Soundtrack and some laptop).

Checking in from Miami.

They had the Sam/Quorra posters (bottom left one in that set of eight) and a 3x5 card for the Daft Punk soundtrack.

The clip was fantastic to see. The 3D was very well done in that it's not "in your face" "HEY, IF YOU DIDN'T NOTICE THIS MOVIE IS IN 3D!!!" 3D... Honestly, the AMC IMAX intro was more "in your face" than the movie was. It was used the way 3D should be used in a movie.

If anyone is interested, I have one spare poster (24x36, I think) and an UNUSED "Tron Night 2010 AMC IMAX" wristband. I'll send it out as soon as I can to the first person that asks me via PM and pays for the shipping (I'd prefer you to be in the US, but I guess arrangements can be made internationally).

ETA: AMC Theaters also gave a coupon for $5 off a movie if you saw it tonight (I couldn't) and a "Free Cameo Combo" (large popcorn and drink) usable between now and 11/18/10.

They weren't rumours, there were some "reshoots", but Kosinski said he rather called it "additional footage" to develop Sam's character more, not to go over anything they had shot already.
But yeah you're not the only one worried about the acting...
