Anybody get anywhere yet? There's a new video on at the Larp Hard youtube channel. http://www.youtube.com/larphard#p/u/0/vPXCQmZIOhM

Not sure if there are clues in this. Maybe the shields mean something? I'm grasping. Otherwise the video's kind of dull.

Nothing so far. I think we are still in the story building stages of this game. The buildup usually takes a little while.

I watched the video, didn't see anything that caught my attention but I'd say there's a good chance there is something hidden in that video we will need later.

Subject: 'tis But a Name

You have me somewhat at a loss... Picking a "cool name" without context is not the simplest thing in the world by far.

I have gone by many names in my life... From violent ("The Executioner" and "Vengeance") to not-so-violent ("Sammy Lightfoot" and "The White Rabbit"). Now I am known as "Nighthawk", and am probably known more by that name than my real name.

Whether that name is sufficient to your purposes or not, I cannot say. I have no intention of hiding behind fake monikers and false personnas... I have come to be known as such, and the name instills both fear and respect to those that know it.

But, as I stated, without knowing the intention and application of it, maybe that is not appropriate. Maybe you are building an environment where everyone enters anonymously, and coming in with such a legendary name - a name that shakes the foundation of your very soul - would provide me an unfair advantage, tipping the scales in my favor and causing undue chaos in your little world. My mere presence may cause you to lose control and tear your realm asunder.

If that is the case, I am willing to find a name that's more... subtle. I do not wish to be responsible for chaos; I've been down that road too many times already.

I leave it up to you.

Cute Nighthawk, I lol'ed Wink

The LARP HARD Recruitment Network is now open. You can find it through our main web site, www.larp-hard.com.

Those who submitted their LARP names prior to the opening of the network have earned 50 recruitment points toward admission to LARP HARD.

You are receiving this because you responded to the Candidacy message. If you would like to be removed altogether from our master mailing list, just respond to that effect.

Welcome. Good luck.

Signed,

Dylan, aka Lacerus the Wicked
King of LARP HARD

I too was duped into thinking this was a real LARP site. I was confused, as I'm a table top player, and have never really LARPed 'hardcore' before. So I signed up as Eric W. Taylor III (my Vampire: The Masquerade character), took a goofy snapshot of me dressed like a professor that I had lying around, and I'm all signed up.

AND THEN, I find out that it's a trailhead. So I'm a nerd. Yeah.

Ning-like social network up: http://join.larp-hard.com/

...along with the first Recruitment Challenge.

So long as I can get away with writing only (I don't do video), maybe I'll have some fun with this.

might not be what they wanted but I answered their recruitment challenge:

Quote:
It started with a stirring speech. "People of the great nation of Narcia, heed me! We cannot bow down to foreign invaders. We must stand strong and united in order to defend our land, the land of our families against these mud creatures. When we put our faith in one another we can overcome any odds no matter how grim they may appear there will always be hope!"

Cheers rang out through the city as the fatigued men were given hope once more. By working together they would surely stand against this scourge. They ran through the city, igniting all with their passion. The stirring words finally falling upon the ears of an inventor. Not necessarily one of great prominence but one of skill none the less, he sent his assistants out into the city, gathering the others of like mind to his shop. They planned and schemed and within a few hours they had the solution they need. The Dehydrator!, a deceptively complex seeming assortment of gears and steam. The greatest invention of war to date. This device at a range would suck all the moisture out of a radius of about a hundred yards. thereby rendering the mud men to powdery dust.

Invention in hand the inventors raced to the walls. explaining their plans the soldiers took formation at the gates. ready to open them and finish the siege once the weapon was fired. The mud men were at the walls as usual clumped at one section. working at a crack they hoped to widen. the perfect target. Everyone's breath caught for a moment as a switched was flipped. a button pressed. the dehydrator fired! Almost like magic it began to suck away all of the moisture from the creatures belong. transferring the water into a holding vat. turning the fearsome mud men into immobile mounds. the inventors gave a signal and the guards opened the door. rushing out they pounded the clay men to bits. evaporating their dried carcasses to dust as the engineers searched for any stragglers. After the deed was done the villagers came out to help scatter the remains. assuring the rain would not reassemble any spark of sentience they took from the beasts the gem of control that gave them their life. When this task was finished, they sent an emissary to the lord. Their message a basket holding the remains of the gems. all of them shattered irreparably.

The message was heard and there has been no retaliation. in fact some rumor the lord is now afraid of this small kingdom which he believes possesses such mighty warriors.

Here's my first week reply (I am Maester Koli of the Nine Hells)

Quote:
Trial by Fire.. how appropriate.

An attack by a larger nation, a siege upon my city; Things like this just won't do.

My people look to me for support, they look to me for guidance.
An attack by mud people, an attempt to destroy our little piece of eden, again, this just won't do.

It takes time to prepare properly but my people trust me, they understand that we do what we must to prevail.

Firstly we have to allow the attacker to believe the siege is working, that means hiding the mass of our supplies, allowing the underground tunnels to hold the mass of our supplies and the youth in the town.

The fighting is intense and some of my best warriors fall to the horde but the time gained gets us the time to set the trap. A stirring speech is heard, talk of fighting to the last man, defending the last piece of freedom we have, of defending those we love to our last breath. The shouts from the men drown out the noise as the last barrels of pitch are moved in place. A line carved into the walls will allow the fiery liquid to leak out onto the mud people with amazing speed. To gather the forces to the gates and crush them all at once I have staged a nice little coup, my lieutenant sends a message out to the army, promising fealty from those left if the attacker will allow the people to live. In exchange he will sabotage the gate and deliver me to the attacker personally.

The morning of the attack my best warriors hide among the city, ready to defend if anyone should make it into the city. The city will be defended, at any cost. As dawn breaks and the mud people begin their final approach my fighters are in place, ready and waiting to drop the pitch onto the attackers and watch their triumph evolve into dark realization as the pitch ignites.

Mud people don't do so well once they have been dried out.

In as Veris LaChance.

Hopefully they don't mind my non-confrontational approach to LARPing. Cool
