Well I for one never found the slender man scary ... like when I knew him for the creepy pastas alone I just thought that he was incredibly over rated due to the game 'Slender' or something. Even when I began to watch Marble Hornets I didn't find hi too spooky. What I get from him is much different ... he isn't an element of fear, rather he is an element of intensity.Like I get the feeling of immense power seeping from his very existence.I mean you get to close to him and his power just causes you to cough and spasm uncontrollably, electronics mess up in his presence, not even your own mind is safe from his awesome power ... and all of this is from it standing in inaction, just imagine what it could do if it actually wanted too.

I do not think that having bits of order within it's actions would take away from it's intimidation.

I'm nodding along with everything I'm reading, mainly because it's what I'm trying to not do with my own series. I like twists, I like a little bit of mystery, but I also love that OHHHHHH moment when everything comes together and there's some satisfaction to be had.

This has nothing to do with the topic, but how do I find the starting point of your series? I kept hitting "go back" in the archives & never seemed to get anywhere.

It can all be found on the blog, linked in my signature. All the podcasts and videos are in order there, as well as relevant blog posts and questions.

I'm sick of seeing people ripping off other Slenderverse series and kids making very shitty videos as mention above.

Although it's hard to come up with really new stuff as a lot's been done, you can really tell when people just don't try.

It's not that it's hard--it's that a couple of groups come up with an idea or a couple of ideas, and then they gain popularity, and then everyone else who comes along either plagiarizes or writes thinly disguised fan fic thinkin' that they're cool.

Sad really.

There's nothing wrong with emulation, but it's gotta end at some point, ya gotta diverge, or else you're just a sad, fanfic-scribbling plagiarist.

Or you become the crack creative squad behind, what is it, Pewter Spiders?

That's where I was, I just couldn't find the start point.

Porcelin, which is supposedly diverging from Marble Hornets.

There are three things that I tend to really dislike in a slenderseries.

The number one offender for me is the trademark slender sickness cough. I don't know why, but for me, whenever I hear it it almost always sounds fake and contrived. There's never any wheezing afterwards, no really deep coughing, just your ordinary random fake coughing.

Number two on my list is overused distortion. When used sparingly and in moderation, distortion is a great way to build dramatic tension. One of my favorite aspects of season 1 of Marble Hornets was the telltale visual tearing signaling the possible appearance of the Operator. Even heavy distortion can have its place (for example right at the moment of a close encounter with slenderman) but heavy distortion should be used extremely rarely. It's one of the big guns in your dramatic arsenal and it loses the sense of disarray if you use it more than once every 15 episodes or so.

Kind of related to distortion is the whole lost memory trope. I get it, and I think that just like with distortion, it has a real place because it introduces a deep sense of unfamiliarity and fear of the unknown. But if you have your characters lose their memories often, or do things and not remember them often, then it just becomes part of the audience's expectations, which defeats the whole point of having it, as the whole idea is to try to break expectations and do unfamiliar things. Do it just a few times and it keeps its sting. Overuse it and it just becoumes "Meh."

It's diverging quite a bit, I know it was meant to be serious, but holy crap is it hilarious. Does it count as spoilers if they're copying a series already in existence? Either way, MH spoilers from S1 I guess
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Rather then going in Brian, I mean Brienne's house the first time, Jami says "nope, nope, nope" and walks back to her car. It escalates really quickly too, like Jami has already gotten abducted by slenderman on camera twice.

With all of the hullabaloo, I'm debating taking a look at it. But holy shit, do I hate the concept of genderswapping.
