 		As I was speculating before in the other thread, the spotlight is about to be shifted on the visual influences aka the series (In this case obviously a generic proxy or maybe Hoodie/Masky from MH). Get ready guys this is gonna be the one that fucks with us.

It's really sad that it had to happen again, but basic human psychology and probability was telling me it was bound to regardless of what we all wanted. I hope the family the best and I wish the daughter a quick mental recovery from this episode.

Both are young girls. The previous incident, the girls were 12 except now she's 13.

Both are in the midwest.

Both attempt murder by stabbing.

Both are mentally ill.

Both don't have a crisp-accurate vision of who Slender Man really is, according to the mythos.

Maybe she was influenced by the girls recent crime? Except why this time she's only facing juvenile prison? I think it's because she's confirmed to have mental problems, while the previous incident they weren't confirmed.

 		This is incredibly stupid and, once again, has nothing to do with us. In fact, it is even clearer than the previous incident that this was in no way our fault.

This entire quotation is rather interesting. It leads me to believe that the mother is trying to blame an easy scapegoat rather than accept the fact that, yes, her daughter did this, and it was on her own, and the mother just didn't pay attention to the possible warning signs.


Also, I think that it is very likely that this assault was prompted by the media coverage of the first assault. It is not uncommon for the media coverage of one mass murder to prompt another mass murder. Here is an interesting article on it: http://www.claytoncramer.com/scholarly/JMME2.htm

I think that what we need to do is just keep our heads down and lie low. There is absolutely no reason for us to get involved in the media, or undertake "save the fandom" movements on Tumblr, and doing so will only bring us trouble. Just carry on and let the storm blow over.

Not even the "Mythos" has a crisp-accurate vision of who Slender Man really is, which by the way is one of the reasons why I'll argue that using the word "mythos" to describe the meme is itself inaccurate - but that's really an argument for another thread. What I really wanted to point out here is that we have no idea how this 13-year-old girl views or thinks of Slender Man because she hasn't said one word about Slender Man.

Maybe...but, I have a nagging suspicion that this incident with the 13-year-old girl stabbing her mother actually predates the incident with the two 12-year-olds. There are little contextual clues. The mother describes the incident beginning with "One night I came home...", which vaguely suggests something further back than the last couple of days. She says she had found Slender Man material along with other "dark" and scary-oriented stuff on her daughter's computer, but says she made the Slender Man connection "after seeing news coverage" of the two 12-year-olds; it seems to me that if her stabbing antedated that one, she would already have seen some coverage and would've instantly recognized the name of "Slender Man" as soon as she saw the material on her daughter's computer.

It appears to me this is something that had already happened, and the case is well into working its way through the justice system; but after the case of the two girls stabbing their friend showed up on the news, the mother remembered having seen the name "Slender Man" in her daughter's stuff and became concerned enough to call the cops and/or the press about it.

A couple of remarks: first, if I were that parent, I would have made a similar connection if I want to be honest. Although I probably wouldn't consider it significant enough to warrant calling the local news station, I can't call the mother's suspicion stupid or ridiculous; it is an interesting coincidence at the very least that there would be two cases of very young girls interested in Slenderman going all stabby.

Second, it's important to recognize that the girl in this incident hasn't said anything about Slender Man, proxies, or anything like this. Her having worn a "white mask" during the attack and claiming to have no memory of committing the act (which is basically how the character of Tim/Masky works) is also a very curious coincidence in context, I'll grant, but it's not exactly definitive; she could just as easily been having a Jason Vorhees or Saw or Michael Myers moment. It's even possible that she might've gotten the idea for the mask from Masky, without Slender Man or anything to do with him forming the motivation behind her attack.

 		I am pretty tired of this scapegoat hunt every time mentally unstable American child (or an adult) goes on a killing spree. USA has 350 million+ population (just think how large that number is). Some are bound to be bad/mad/neglected/criminals who are always looking for excuse to go kill someone. Videogames, films, comics, Slenderman, creepypastas, guns, alcohol... Millions of people enjoy those things and nothing happens. But when someone somewhere develops an obsession or just finds a scapegoat in case he gets caught, those things are demonized.

So, imagine the world without videogames, films, comics, Slenderman, creepypastas, alcohol - they are gone. What now? Murder spree will go down? No. Mentally unstable neglected children will still find an obsession/like/use something, even Disney movies. Ban them as well?

In short, I will still enjoy Slenderseries and in no way I would allow this mindless hysteria to influence me.

 		As I keep saying, the media is trying to create a moral panic. They have something new to pick on, instead of the usual metal music and video games, and they're trying to milk it for all it is worth, instead of focusing on the fact that these children are mentally unstable enough to attempt murder.
