What do you mean by "seems kinda anniversary-edition to me"????

It just seems (to me) that a blu-ray edition would better be released on a 30th anniversary rather than before the sequel.

That would be two years away & an "anniversary edition" is nothing more then a title. I really don't think it would change any features the Blu-Ray will offer...
Lol, and how many bonus features could a Tron blu-ray have? Maybe like a documentary talking about the legacy of Tron and the trials of making the film and a commentary by Lisberger. Other than that what could there really be?

There's a Making of Tron documentary that was included on the Tron 20th Anniversary 2-DVD Special Edition. It's 88 minutes long.

Win.

I would be surprised if Disney bothered to release Tron on BD after Legacy hits the theaters, unless they plan to release it at the same time as the Legacy BD. The latter seems kind of silly to me. Use the original in HD glory to pump up interest in the current film.

Oh, and I don't care if Tron on BD was on plain discs in a paper sleeve with 'Tron HD' written on it with a Sharpie and with NO 'special features', I'd buy it from Disney.

Disney color wheels basically every film they make and archives them well, so that high quality masters exist of virtually every film they've made in the post WW2 era. Originally this was so Walt could re-release his titles every year or two (usually for the holidays or the summer), but later because Disney was wise to the importance of good archives. I'm sure there's a really great print of Tron that could fairly easily be scanned to digital format. The resolution of quality cinematic film from as far back as the mid 70s is every bit high enough to be HD.

The original Tron DVD release was basically a plain disc with a paper sleeve, ok it was a barely printed disc with a basic plastic box but you get the idea.

The 720p print of Tron that was shown on HDNet is very good. I have it saved on my DVR and its nice to watch. So I'm sure a 1080p version is doable if its not already done and just waiting for a potential release.

I could see Disney releasing Tron and Tron: Legacy on Bluray together, I remember other movies getting a similar treatment when they had sequels released.

I am sure somewhere there is talk of converting it to 3D.

It's gotta be next year if at all. If they were doing it you think they would be hyping tyhe heck out of the release in support of Legacy. I checked http://disneydvd.disney.go.com/coming-soon.html and there's nothing there of course. Maybe an original/Legends double release in late 2011?

You're most likely going to be seeing it as a dual release sometime next summer along with Legacy. They really did miss a great opportunity to hype Legacy with a BR release of the original, but it fits with the distancing they have been doing with some of the promotion as far as it relates to the original. They acknowledge it, but some of the Disney folks have almost taken a "oh, well, it is a sequel, but it's more of a new film for a new generation so you don't need to pay any attention to that corny old 80's movie" approach. Pisses me off whenever I read it.

Here are some pretty good articles about the possible release of a blu ray

I really hope they do it. The DVD version I watched was just messy--lots of artifacts and color fading. Confused

Color/tones are being corrected, and the clean up of the film is more extensive than the 20th aniversery DVD.

I have that 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition, and it looks fine on my non-HD television. There's something to be said for preserving the original feel of the movie. Sweeting the effects now, after decades, would be like colorizing Citizen Kane (imo). That's why we're getting the sequel instead, an evolution.
