Dray's Ludicrously OverAnalyzed Text Dissection

Why hello there, welcome to this evening's episode of 'Dray Dissects The Smallest Things'! Tonight's topic: SMiLE FoR THE CAMERA!

Below, we have the first image to compare: 'Smile for the camera' from our most recent tweet, vs the self same message from TTA's account, 'Warning'.

Here we can see some obvious differences: the writing on the left is less hasty, jittery, or otherwise sketchy as the writing on the right. However, notice that the 'i' in 'smile' is both lowercase in the left and on the right. There are little hooks where the 'm' ends in both images, however it's difficult to tell if the rest are similar, given that the writing on the left is nearly entirely in all caps, where the writing on the right is composed mostly of lower case letters.

Below is a composite of all of the writing found in Warning (It's a bit large, so let me know if it's breaking your page or your connection and I'll re-link as a URL instead of as an IMG.

The same shakiness runs through the entirety of these caps, which would make sense, given that they're all from the same period of time.

A couple of things that I've noted (and I am not a student of graphology, so if any of you are more proficient, please toss in your hats!) is that the writing in Warning has more angles; our newest image has fewer jagged points (in the 'M' and the 'A', for example.) The 'S's of Warning are less considered and symmetrical from top to bottom than our new image, and the letters as a whole are more closely kerned (or rather, each letter is closer to the other) in the new image than in most of the images from Warning.

However, I think that the hooks on the ends of the letter strokes in our new image correlate with those in the Warning images, and I definitely think that using a lower case 'i' in 'SMiLE' is an important connection between the two.

I believe that what appears to be a doubling up in letters towards the bottom of our new image, 'THE CAMERA' is an artifact of distortion, rather than a conscious attempt to make them seem multiplied. The same kind of distortion can be seen in Warning when we cut to the moving mask; in this case, the vertical blurring. The saturated colours of our new image could either be related to coloured lights in the room, or pushing up the contrast of the image (again, due to distortion as I'm looking at this in an IC fashion, rather than 'lololol hues and balance and levels! 8D' at the moment.)

In any case, this ramble has kind of trailed off to an end. I'm guessing that we're looking at writing from the same person from the video to the image; TTA has hijacked Jay's twitter, rather than Jay becoming a TTA. Or else Jay and TTA have become buddy buddy in the last six months and TTA forgot to log Jay out of his computer before posting.

Momentarily Meta Dissection:

For some reason, I wasn't reading this as an in-game BE WORRIED ABOUT JAY. It looked like a "smile! we're filming nao!" picture.

However, now I'm worried about Jay.

First off, fast dissection proved.

Have you considered that the lack of shakiness might be because the new picture is larger, I.E. <Possibly> Masky spraypainting a wall? Same handwriting style but bigger.

Oh, but you know we should always be worrying about Jay! Poor hapless fella. All going into dark buildings at night alone and unarmed... multiple times.

Dray, good putting together of the pieces! The M is pretty incriminating, and the i (and it makes me wonder briefly if there is something special about the i and the o both being lowercased -- i/o?), and the MH guys aren't so sloppy that they wouldn't get a new person to write in a new style if they... you know, meant it to be from a new person!

Doesn't change the fact that the MH guys aren't sloppy. They admitted in interviews that they are pretty haphazard about the whole thing.

Here's hoping they'll give more thought into part 2 and make it more intricate.

That or simply a larger writing surface. Good on you, Dray, though. Always first to catch things. Very Happy

That's exactly what I had said. XD Those boys ain't slouches. Anyways, I think they never expected this thing to get as big as it did, which may be in part why some parts of the first season were a little rough around the edges, as it were. I am reasonably certain they would have a good handle on things by now.

If it is spraypainted on a larger surface, I would be a no good lurking tourist just to snap photos of it.

However, unless they're spray painting it on a very smooth wall like something that has been dry-walled and painted over, the surface doesn't seem to be something that they've spray-painted on -- it's so smooth!

On the other hand, if the orange light there is the souped up orange of a camera flash, then it really could be a wall that's been spraypainted on. And it would make more sense, IC, for TTA to snap a picture of something on the wall than for him to have drawn on a piece of paper.

In fact, if this is spray painted upon a wall (say, of Alex's house) for Jay to find, and we see it in a later video, then it would be a really good hook back into the story...

Okay, you guys've convinced me. I WANT TO BELIEVE~

Maybe there's a white wall in Jay's current residence and he found it there.

It doesn't really look like the surface of a wall very much; I think it's probably the same type of thing as the other, older "smile for the camera" message.

I am more worried about what it means that this was posted from Jay's account. I hope there's some sort of update in the near future. I'm excited now. Smile

The picture reminds me of the time I tried to take a picture with a crappy cellphone in a bar. Just my two cents~

I'm so pumped for this. I think that picture might have some meta and IG meanings. Meta being, obviously, "FUCK YEAH WE'RE BACK", IG being...well; now J has a reason to get back into it. I'm expecting an update on what's been going on since he found Entry 26.
