Can the mods please please PLEASE delete all these annoying threads from people claiming to have found the secret to MH or think they have brand new ideas (You Are My Ark, Alex R. Kralie, etc.) PLEASE. It makes my brain hurt. People don't need to post a new thread for every single theory they have!

So, I'm a little new to the marble hornets (just marathon-ed the whole thing in the dead of last night, very, very bad idea) but I find all of this fascinating and my mind turning with the mythos.

(I'm assuming this kind of discussion goes here since making new threads for theories seems to be discouraged and I've seen this thread pointed to from others, but please forgive me if I'm mistaken.)

Here's a couple things I've noticed that really intrigue me and some theories thereof;

I don't think the Operator is necessarily an antagonist in the traditional sense, or at the very least his intentions aren't. I'm not saying he's benign, since I believe his very presence (going with the theory that he, er, operates on a semi-quantum scale) causes the human mind to warp/break fathoming his existence, he distorts time and space, and I believe he has a goal he is working for (either to find the ark, or keep it from TTA and others) that he needs human intervention for. As far as his actions (and therefore motivations) it fascinates me that he's done nothing... well, aggressive, looming aside. I don't think that hurting Alex or J (or whatever has happened to the rest of the crew) is his goal.

I'm making a couple assumptions here. One, there is only one Operator, and two, because it's never mentioned he has appeared (physically) out of a camera's lens, he hasn't (I'd love to see that addressed in a future entry since it lynchpins much of my theory on what he is). A little bit of this may be rehash since I'm a newbie.

1)
In nearly every video he has appeared the Operator him/itself has not made any movement besides some walking and shifting about. He doesn't approach Alex menacingly and he all but ignores J at first. The only event where it can actually be theorized he attacked someone was when he entered Alex's room, and even then, all we see is Alex's bloody head. I think a struggle did take place, and Alex's reaction afterwards is shock from proximity to the Operator's distortion zone or simply from the encounter. He does approach Alex several times and attempt to enter his house, but then again so does J. Because we see things from J's point of view his break-in is partially justified because of his desperation, but from an outside perspective it would be hostile. As of 29,
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the only real thing that can said is someone was injured and the Operator was present, since totheark makes me believe there are other forces working against/for the Operator, someone, not Jay, was caught in the middle but not necessarily attacked.

2)
Being filmed forces the Operator into our realm of existence/physics. He can't walk through doors or 'teleport' as he does off-camera. This forces both J and Alex to film themselves constantly, but it is a double-edged sword. Firstly, Operator presence distorts the film, secondly, Entry 26 proves to me that the Operator is attracted by filming... which leads me to believe he/it is something like Terry Pratchett's dungeon dimensional horrors, which want to 'warm themselves by the fires of reality'. The Operator is only quasi-real to begin with, and in this case, the 'fires of reality' are the act of being filmed. He needs Alex/J to film him, whether that is so he can find the ark or to communicate with Alex/J is unknown. The constant reference to eyes, 'see me', and suchlike are him trying to get this fact across.

3)
Due to J reacting to it, if we assume that parroting back human voices is/was his doing, then he may be consciously trying to copy and communicate, but it's so wrong and foreign it scares instead. The distortion he causes reminds me of echolocation as an ulterior mode of communication. We send signals, bats and dolphins can bounce signals too, but the Operator distorts signals to communicate. In a way it reminds me of Close Encounters, the Operator is just trying to find a baseline to communicate with.'

4)
The Operator may be totheark. Going with the theory he is attempting to 'speak to Alex (who either has the ark or is a key to finding it, or even keeping it safe) and later J, he uses his distortion abilities, parroting and copying to communicate with the same method J is using: youtube. If totheark is not the Operator, he/it/she is no longer, or never was, completely human. I'm not convinced the Mask is totheark, but there is some connection there.

5) Obvious is obvious: The Operator refers to either the Operator of the Ark or a literal Operator, but instead of phone lines it's trans-dimensional space and time.

6)
The boiler room/dilapidated basement/house where both Alex and J are brought is at the crux, and the Operator is leading them there. It is possibly the location of the ark itself, but I believe it isn't in our dimension, but is rather the human brain trying to give a form to something otherworldly by giving it a shape we can process and understand, since J, at least, arrived unnaturally. I think Alex found it through Operator distortion in Brian's house originally, took Seth with him to investigate, but found something that even filming couldn't give shape to (why the camera and memory cuts out), possibly the Ark itself.

I also believe there is a third party at work here, either as TTA, the Mask, or a separate force that has yet to make it's entry appearance.

...sorry for wall of text.

the operator doesn't distort the video. Find me oneinstance of distortion where it was just the operator present that distorted it, IMO it's Tim/Masky that cause the distortion.

Don't forget about 13, 14, and 23, and 26. Haha.

Not only that, but Tim/Masky have been on camera numerous times without distorting it (Entry 15 when Tim is being interviewed and Entry 23 where Masky is peeking into the bathroom and runs away).

Slender man doesn't, however, always cause the distortion. In entry 1 (I think) Alex films him outside and there is no distortion. Looking back, however, I suppose that it's more likely that SM causes the distortion, not Tim. I am disproved, and feels stupid

Is the visual tearing not considered distortion?

Yes, Entry #1 has a tear in it and is therefore distorted, however slightly.

Both the Operator and Masky/Tim have appeared on camera with and without causing distortion. It's not terribly consistent, just as the type of distortion isn't.

I agree with most everything, but #4. Just the thought of slenderman sitting down typing at a computer is just hilarious. Yes he could have stolen a computer, but to not only know how to work a computer, work all the required software (the OS, internet browser, email, youtube, videos, video editing software, etc.), be in a place where he has both power and internet, is all just a little too far-fetched for me.

That's pretty much why it falls apart for me too (and makes me smile when I think of the Operator and a keyboard). However, I can't shake the image either that he might be 'uploading' them in the same way he travels when not on camera, in some eldtritch-y way that doesn't apply to normal laws and conventions, following, like he does with the moving camera, where his image appears on film... but yah, that's reaaaally a stretch.

The more I think about it, the more I want to think the Ark is some/one/thing we haven't seen yet.

Maybe the Ark is the key to destroying the Operator?
