[OT] TRON World of Color

First off, I apologize to those who dislike all the OT topics...but this is too awesome to NOT get its own thread...with that out of the way....so I was reading on Micechat and stumbled across some threads talking about Troncore...which I was completely surprised by becuase I had never heard of Tron-core...thought it was some new Electronica thing...Its a freaking 2 and 1/2+ minute encore to World of Color based on Tron Legacy.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
THEY USE THE LASERS FROM THE BUZZ SEQUENCE FOR LIGHTCYCLES!!!! Very Happy
So...ya, I didn't really notice any spoilers...focused on the "I'm not your father" line and lightcycles. Here are three different Youtube vids of it, all are worth watching. And let me just say, kudos to the DCA management or whoever authorized it, because while they just debuted the horrendous DCA Dance Crew...this ABOUT makes up for it...about...anyway:

Wow, I will need to go back and see that in person. I swear those effects are more intense than any other segment in the show since it utilizes the attractions.

Man... now I wanna go see this! Maybe we should set up a "meetup" sometime in November or early December, to visit Disneyland and DCA. We can hit ElecTRONica and this new World of Color "Tron-core" (these puns are so rebonkularsly bad), along with all the other fun stuff at the park/s.

I'd recommend a weekday to get the greatest number of AP-holders in (I've got a SoCal Select AP, meaning no weekends at all), though a Saturday or Sunday might be necessary to accommodate more peoples' schedules...

I'm thinking of another trip in December. I think elecTRONica are only on the weekends. I have a voucher for a coin that says

Fridays,Saturdays, Sundays & holiday weeks. 6PM-Park Closing

For anyone who has never seen World of Color, you will need to get to the park when it opens so you can go get your seating ticket/fastpass (it's free) at Grizzly River Run. Without it you will be forced to watch from the rear of the projections and miss all the cool effects.

Last I checked, Friday wasn't on the weekend... (ducks incoming projectiles)

Of course, I'm not completely OPPOSED to buying a blackout-day ticket or upgrading my pass, to be able to go... but I'd rather not pay extra if possible. Very Happy

When they made the Disneyland Monorails into Lightcycles, I thought it was cool. When they started selling TRON merch at Downtown Disney, I got giddy. When ElecTRONica was announced, I wanted to see a vid of it and get some Flynn's tokens from someone.

TRON WORLD OF COLOR=MUST GO TO DCA. NOW.

Ditto. I'm planning on going sometime at the beginning of Dec...more specifically the first weekend of Dec, so I can take in all the elecTRONica goodness.

Disney just posted their own vid of it, but its all spliced together and the music is not the soundtrack used at the actual show...however it looks much high resolution than the youtube vids: http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2010/11/video-world-of-color-tron-legacy-encore/ .

If only they'd do something out at Disney World.... I think I could actually manage a trip down there. But to CA? No way.

The East Coast sucks. ):

To be fair, the electronica event is a rebranded event (glowfest) and a big advert for the movie. It's also seen as a means of brining in locals who would not normally come to DCA at night.

For world of color, aside from being an advert, it's also sort of a test of the claim that they can easily modify the show.

One of the big reasons, supposedly, that WDW doesn't get things like Haunted Mansion Holiday, Ghost Galaxy, and Small World Holiday is that there are more tourists there at all times so closing down attractions/changing them means they would risk missing out on something.

What WDW gets, in exchange, are events like Star Wars Weekends and numerous conventions. Disneyland is real-estate-locked; they're surrounded by freeways and hotels and such on all sides, meaning they can't expand outwards and build more things for their park, be it convention space, retail, new hotels, and the like, so they can only work with what they have - the attractions. WDW has an enormous amount of space available to them, so they can fill that space as they choose; meaning, they can have lots of special events outside of the parks.

Trust me... if World of Color does well, expect to see a version of that at some park at WDW within 5 years or so.

Seconded! Again, prefer a non-weekend, for me... but I'd love to go again. Maybe smuggle my Tron jacket in... Twisted Evil
