Tron/Unfiction Themed forum avatars In the DIY Swag thread I posted some nice user bars for you all to use on other sites. However, I have decided not to make some that are sized for Unfiction. I'd rather not be the person responsible for causing the forums to be spammed with a plethora of new images on every page. This would just slow everything down and hide the real information behind a wall of images.
However, I don't believe that changing user pics would be any problem at all. So I made these 40 avatar images for your use on the Unfiction site. Hope you all enjoy them.
Instructions for use:
Code:
Hosting Them Yourself (Preferred Method)
Right click on image
click "Save Image/Picture as"
Upload image to file hosting site like Photobucket
Copy image link provided by hosting site
Return to Unfiction Forums and select "profile" link
Click on "Avatar Control Panel"
Paste and submit.
Code:
Hotlinking to pictures hosted on my Photobucket (please use only if you are unable to figure out how to host them yourself. I am not held responsible if Photobucket decides too much bandwidth is used by everyone linking from my account, and the links go dead)
Firefox -
Right click on Image
Select "Copy Image Location"
Scroll up and select the "profile" link
Click on "avatar control panel"
Paste and submit.
Internet Explorer -
Right click on Image
Select "Properties"
Highlight and copy the image address (Address: URL)
Scroll up and select the "profile" link
Click on "avatar control panel"
Paste and submit.
I have received a few requests for the Unfiction themed frame in order for people to make their own customized avatars, so I decided to just supply my photoshop file for those who wish to use it. Also, here are some basic instructions on how to use it in an easy and effective manner. Hope to see some nice Avatars made by the rest of you so that we can all share in the fun.
(Included is the Unfiction frame, and the original 40 Avatar's I made. *Note: The Unfiction badging can be hidden if for some reason you wish to use these avatars on other sites, but i'd recommend leaving it on anyways to promote Unfiction)

Code:
I set it all up so that it is really easy to fit the images into the frame:
Do any image editing to the image you wish to use in your avatar.
Re-size to fit (I've found 81 by 81 pixels works perfectly).
Paste your image onto a new layer in the "Avatars" folder.
Adjust the placement of your image.
If image goes beyond the frame borders:
Select "Border" layer.
Use magic wand to highlight what should be the transparent area.
Select the layer you just pasted your image onto.
Your magic wand selection should still be there so press delete to get rid of extra image around the borders.
To save go to File, Save for web, select gif in top right corner then hit save.

Those avatars are amazingly well done! I'm really impressed with them. They're all really great in their placement and balance. It shows even if you say they are simple that you put in a lot of work doing them.

Agreed! It isn't easy to convey so much in such a small area. Quite a bit of thought and effort went into these. They also look like they were cleaned up pixel-by-pixel after resizing.
Top notch work!

So this may sound silly, but how do I set one of these as my avatar? I've tried several images over the past few weeks that fit the avatar criteria, but they never show up or aren't accepted.
<-----Nevermind

Okay, Cracksmurf, I'm following your instructions, but when I right-click on the avatar I want, I'm not seeing "copy image location".
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, so if someone could help me out that'd be great.

If you're using Firefox, I get "Copy Image Location". Thought to prevent using his site traffic, you might want to host it yourself, like on your own photobucket or something.

I figured it had to be FireFox. Thing is, I don't have it on my computer and I don't have a photobucket either.
