Much as I despise the man, I am reminded of Andy Warhol's soup can painting. His argument was something like "It's not the soup can, it's a painting of a soup can." Well, you aren't building a real recognizer, or even a virtual one in a movie, you're making a model of one.

Of course try telling that to Disney, one of the more litigious companies around these days.

In any case, I would look at it like this. Would it be illegal for me to make this for myself? No, I don't believe so. Would it be illegal for me to make this, then give it to someone as a gift? Again, no. Would it be illegal for them to be overwhelmed with gratitude and insist on paying me for the materials? Again, I don't think so.

I am *not* a lawyer, I am merely sharing my thought process.

That said, anyone remember that guy who made the fan-made legend of zelda movie he posted on youtube? It was liveaction, made by him and his friends, and Nintendo got involved and had it shut down. To be fair, they didn't sue him, they actually negotiated with him to take it down.

Here's a hypothetical thought. Instead of posting this openly on the forums, you only contact people who have purchased geometric answers and ask them if they are interested. These are people that you know have already shown an interest in participating in such fannish activities.
