which month of Game Informer and Wired were these?

and does anyone have a cover photo of these?

It was in the GI that should be hitting Gamestops this week. I don't have a picture, but it has about 8 video game characters posing in a "portrait" on the front of the cover. I will snag a picture tonight when I go into work (I take seasonal shifts at GS during the holidays to earn a little extra $).

Also, I picked up the Original Movie Adaptation at a local comic book store yesterday. It was a bit harder to find as I don't think many shops ordered these. I had to call around to four or so until I could locate a copy.

UK magazine "Little White Lies" has a metallic front cover of Kevin Flynn, and in the magazine there is a 36 page (!!) feature on the film, its influences, Daft Punk etc. etc.

Now that might be difficult for us here in the U.S. to find (unless online)! Thanks for the heads up, I think I'll track that down...

Not to date myself, but I saw Tron at least 10 times in the theater when it was originally released and I know plenty of friends that did the same, so I can't agree or believe that it was really a box office bomb. Too much is judged by the box office total instead of whether it's a good film with meaning. I'm sure that half the people that saw it back then really didn't understand it though, had that conversation too many times over the years...

Uh, "box office bomb" is a measurable label, and Tron was basically a box office bomb. Doesn't mean it wasn't liked by many, but was certainly not liked by many more Wink It made $33M in 1982 (under $100M w/inflation) with a $17M (~$50M) budget. That's not bad, but it didn't appeal to the masses nearly as much as it could have.
You can see some of its relative rankings at boxofficemojo. There may be any number of interpretations of that data (running against E.T. for example), but in the long run, Tron fared far worse than hoped in its theatre run.

Which is of course no excuse for people already slamming Legacy, being a completely new and different film... barring any unforeseen catastrophe (like an announcement that Twilight: More Teen Drama, or Lord of the Rings 4 or something will open the same weekend), I see Legacy earning it's keep opening weekend. Stay power? We'll see how the public reacts to the story Smile

Yeah, Bruce, I guess the point I was trying to get at was your second point... I felt like the article was dismissing the new movie somewhat based on the fact that the first one didn't do well in the eyes of the Hollywood money machine, instead of it's impact on culture over the years. But, point taken on the actual numbers, thanks.

Yeah, that's just dumb Smile (on their part I mean)

I actually learned a bit doing that snip of research. I thought it did worse than that... by today's standards, that's a decent turn around I think, to double the production cost.

I knew about the game, but hadn't seen a Tron reference about it before.

Ya, there's a scene in that link that looks very much like Pete in a tron outfit in a very Tronish looking arena

Tron Technically in Tangled

The male lead character in Disney's Tangled is named Flynn Rider.
I find this ironic they chose that name knowing in less than a month that Tron Legacy will be coming out.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
At one point Flynn gets stabbed and will not let Rapunzel save him. He dies and then her tears are able to save him. When he came to,
My Fiance yelled out FLYNN LIVES!!!!! It was epic! I may have been the only one who got it though... and I wished I had a Flynn Lives shirt to wear to the premiere!

Here's more. Flynn Rider is voiced by Zach Levy. Zach levy Plays Chuck on NBC. On Chuck's bedroom wall is his favorite movie poster: Tron!
