Okay, dude, seriously? Calm down. Take a chill pill. If you don't have any chill pills, take one of those chill strips, place them on your tongue, let it disintegrate, and relax.

It IS the beginning of a new season. It IS the first entry of more to come. It DID raise a few questions, the most important being WHAT HAPPENED? There are seven months worth of a story that we don't know, and the fact that he doesn't remember just makes it even more curious.

Am I skeptical? Sure. I said just that earlier. Do I believe they have an overall plan? Absolutely. This "filler" video is setting up season 2 and letting us know what we need to keep in mind going into it. Nobody is making you watch it. Chill the fuck out.

I don't like getting annoyed at people over the internet, but you're freaking out over nothing. Sit back, make some popcorn, and wait for the next one.

just to throw this out there, its not television, so why should we associate it as such? season 2, part 2, act 2, it doesnt really matter what you call it. it's ongoing. they labeled it as entry 27, and thats what it is. it sets the grounds for where they're going to from sleeping, but these guys have mastered the art of suspense and payoff. entry 1, at least personally, wasnt the most amazing thing ever. it made me go "wait, what?" and held my interest. it seems that is the purpose of entry 27. to peak our interest, and hold it until the next entry. i know im excited as all hell for more because it has always been worth it and i know they'll come through in the end.

You're looking right past the bigger picture.

That's really not how seasons work for a television series, but ok. Even given that, tell me what this establishes to match the beginning of the previous season. The Amnesia thing has been done so much it's not scary or intriguing anymore.

Were I a bigger skeptic, I would say that they wrote this storyline eons ago, to expand on their original "amnesia" bits in the videos. Then a bunch of the new blogs and vlogs beat them to the punch with huge stretches of amnesia and re-written memories based off that mechanic, and they had too much invested in the story-line at that point to change it without major pushbacks for season 2.

Mind you, that is my skeptical side. I don't think that's what happened yet, but you must admit that it is a striking thought.

Bro, this isnt like the other amnesias though. I said earlier, this is like The Hangover. He basicly woke up with all this crap on him with no idea happened. The objects alone in entry 27 already raise so many question because no one knows how they came to be. Sorry if you are dissapointed but really, its better than J putting up a vid of seven months worth of alex finding and slenderfighting and then going durp whut now

Gentleman, stop putting these guys up on a fucking pedestal. I can understand where your cynicism is coming from, but screaming bloody murder about it isn't going to FIX'D things, y'know?

Okay, so short term amnesia is a trope. Remember then that MH has been playing heavily with this all throughout the first season. eta: which you have, so that's good.

If you are worried that they're going to fumble this, pose some specific worries about what you feel could go terribly wrong. Pose some examples of where you have seen it pulled off well.

Keep in mind that these guys aren't film masters and some of them are still, in fact, students; if you feel that they've screwed the pooch somewhere along the way, please be constructive about it instead of pissing yourself like an angry infant.

I have posed several specific worries, the videos lack of Slender-man and over-all in-feasibility, the amount of panning shots that simply didn't need to be there, and silence from Jay. I've asked time and time again for someone to explain to me the significance of this video, but I have yet to receive an answer, most preferring instead to tell me to calm down and it's okay, which leads me to believe that there really is no significance.

This isn't the beginning anymore, folks. There are dozens of series out of there, and at least a handful of them deserve serious attention. I owe MH a certain loyalty for introducing me to this medium, but I won't give them anymore of a free pass than I would every other beginner series, in fact I will give them less. Because anything more would be a discredit to the excellent work they have already done.

Maybe that's wrong of me. But so far, I have seen nothing but excuses made on their behalf. I'm not saying it's over, or that their hacks, but I am saying that this was disappointing, and that I hope this is not telling of things to come.

What happened is a great question. It's a question I would have loved to see something about. But it's been 7 months and Jay looks no worse for wear than he did back in Entry 26. It's full of shots of him driving and looking at the camera, but they opted to stick with text rather than have him speak. To me, this was distracting. If he had spoken, it would have been a wholly different video. I could analyze and see if his demeanor was different from the last time we saw him, but the thing is, the last time we saw him he was a flat character. Jay hasn't been developed well enough for me to care about his 7 month amnesia. I care about Alex as a character, since we've seen so much more of him, but the others just aren't to that point yet. Again, I might just be jaded and spoiled by character-driven blogs such as the aforementioned EMH and SFA.

That being said, I'm not here to start drama. I'm here for discussion. I don't take too terribly kindly to being cussed out, called names, or insulted. If you don't like what I have to say, that's fine. But I would prefer to keep the conversation civil, and not let any of esteemed participants of this forum degenerate to ad-hominem attacks. It reflects poorly on all of us.

OH BOY I AM FINALLY CAUGHT UP

So many threads so many posts in less than one day MH fans really talk too much.

First:

The internet is not like television. The internet doesn't necessarily have to follow the established methods and tropes of television for telling a story, since the internet is a different medium. Television seasons are planned and structured the way they are because of culturally and historically changing broadcast practices, and that's how we get the typical broadcast seasons we see today. But the internet is (currently) more of a free medium (especially for indie producers like the crew of Marble Hornets) because it doesn't have the cultural, economical, and business restrictions that television has, so the internet doesn't have to follow the same methods of storytelling that television has.

TL;DR: The internet is a different medium than television and that difference will affect and influence how the story is told.

Me, I'm not looking at this as a new season (though for convention's sake season two works I guess), but simply as a continuation of the same story. That's simply happening seven months later. I guess calling it Part Two works for me, but I don't know, I'M JUST GLAD TO HAVE MORE STORY.

Also when Jay got up and walked around and we saw the camera in his chest I thought the camera had become part of him and I am very glad that is not the case (though it would have been cool).

Also also:

You have your opinions. You are entitled to them. They are silly and practically unfounded, but they are yours.

But while we're talking about "reflecting poorly on the rest of us"? Please learn the difference between your/you're and their/there/they're. It's just a pet peeve, especially since the rest of your typing skills are quite lovely. But anyway.

MOVING RIGHT ALONG. I'm wondering what happened to Alex and GF (what was her name? I think she had a name) in that seven month period. And while we're at it, if the Masky on the twitpic was in fact Jay and not Tim like we're used to, what happened to Tim?
I want theories. Crazy ones are the best sort.

I'll admit it, pages back I said I found it boring. It was boring in a it didn't make me intrigued as much as the first introduction. Still good and I know better stuff is to come.

With all that aside, I personally hope to see Jay uploading footage that he doesn't know he filmed, footage given to him, or whatever.

Also I'd like to see more Totheark interactions and the operator of course.

Hey guys, first time postin on anything MH related, don't massacre me Very Happy

So I don't know if anyone else is having this issue, but a friend of mine who just watched the new entry says that the little time-counter-thingie on the video player goes from 6:12 to 6:14 for her, totally skipping 6:13.
And she, being the person she is, went crazy with it. (I think it's really reaching, but I can't break her spirit, and the coincidence is a little creepy anyway)
So, her train of thought was that 6:13 would add up to 371 seconds, which translated to a date, 3/7/01.
She looked it up on google (not sure what terms she used exactly)and got this transcript thing about a child that went missing a few years ago and was never found. I gotta admit the circumstances are total Slendermaterial, but otherwise.

To be honest, I don't think it's anything but a creepy coincidence, but in the off chance it really is something worthwhile, I figured I should post it.

Amy, I'm pretty sure it was!

Also, another thing: I liked a lot of the panning shots in the entry, that might just be me geeking out at awesome shots (like the one where Jay puts the camera down, then he moves his elbow and BAM lens flare right there). A little bit artsy-fartsy, but the guys are certainly allowed to do things like that if they want to--as people are allowed to like and dislike artsy-fartsy filming as are their wont.

And yes, it is definitely wonderful.

I figured that Masky wasn't Jay in those photos due to Masky's eyes being visible and too tiny to be Jay's. He has some noticeable eyes.

I could be wrong obviously but looking at the image it doesn't look like Jays eyes unless they edited it to fool us cause were too close to the truth. Haha.

About Alex and his girlfriend. He told her to like go and run. I wonder what happened to her? Maybe she was taken, maybe she's now slowly starting to succumb to slenderman and we will see more of her.

That'd be neat.

Gotta say, dude, you have been presented a number of reasons why the video was done the way it was. I don't understand why you didn't seem to notice them.

For example, to be horribly self-indulgent:

JKatkina wrote:
It is the implications that this entry raises that are the most important part of the entry. It teases us with suggestions of what might have happened in the interim, if you take the time to consider them -- his new camera, for example, the hoodie that seems the same as in the recent Masked twitpic, the pulsing television, the fact that he apparently had at least the faculties to drive a car, take himself to a hotel and book a room... it leads us on, and is more about showing us what we don't know than telling us any answers. I personally think that's a brilliant ploy.

In summation, the significance is the revelations and implications is grants us. It holds significance as a slow-paced build-up setting into motion things that will come into play sooner or later. (Hopefully sooner!) I would also argue that it would have been much more of a cop-out to slap the Operator in the very first video than it is to draw out the suspense and mess with our expectations. That's like sex with no foreplay. It may still be great, but it's just not as MUCH fun.

I have to ask: What wouldn't've disappointed you? What would you have wanted to see in this video?

I do wonder what leads you to think that Jay is Masky now. This would require the mask to be more a symbol of being hollowed out rather than a specific item of significance to Tim, which I guess is possible, but seems far-fetched to me. His accounts have been hacked before without him being Masky, so why should it be different now?

I think the speculation about Jay being the Masky in the twitpic comes from the twitpic Masky wearing an apparently brown hoodie, and Jay in the new video wearing a very similar brown hoodie. It's tenuous, and I know I for one would need a bit more convincing, but the connection is there.

Also, the idea of the mask being a protective talisman (of sorts) could apply... to some degree. We don't know what Jay was doing for those seven months. Maybe Tim showed up, showed him how to use the mask, but then something went awry and Jay didn't stay protected. Speculation ho!

I never said I thought Jay was a Masky now (I don't), I'm just throwing things out there. I just like Tim, I guess. (He's a fan favorite, sue me.)

Also JKatkina has been making lovely points, by the by.
