AUGUST 25th

Without Jay or The Operator to help navigate, they come to an impassable trail, and the trio loses seven days.

It's possible they misplaced the map.

Or or it was taken.

SEPTEMBER 1st

Brian has measles.

SEPTEMBER 11-18

The group rests at Fort Boise to allow Brian time to recover, against Alex's wishes.

They see that their next destination is Blue Mountain and Tim and Brian remember the joke they shared about "Big Gray Mountain" and laugh, and try to hold back tears, remembering their fallen comrade.

SEPTEMBER 25-28

Brian goes out to hunt but gets lost. Upon returning, he confesses to Tim that Alex told him to go out without his map.

They realize what's going on: Alex breaking Tim's leg in a fit of anger, telling Brian to leave without his map, his sudden disposal of J and The Operator's mysterious death. They had suspected it but not wanted to believe it.

He's trying to kill them all.

OCTOBER 12

Brian gets bitten by a snake that seemingly crept into the wagon at night, thought the wagon was raised off of the ground.

Alex tells Tim to go hunt for food but Tim refuses, knowing what will likely happen if he does. Alex instead hunts for food, but only barely manages to shoot a rabbit.

OCTOBER 23

Brian has typhoid.

It takes an hour of convincing for Tim to let them rest for several days and allow Brian to recover. They spend the next week there, and whenever Alex is away, they plan on what to do with Alex.

NOVEMBER 1

To fight the bitter cold, Alex and Tim wear two cloth masks. Tim's is snow white, made of J's old blanket. Brian's is black, made from a scrap of one of The Operator's leftover suits.
They fall asleep that night and they dream. They see The Operator. The Operator tells them without speaking that Alex has betrayed him and must be punished. Without fully understanding what he means, or even questioning the order, Tim and Brian obey.

NOVEMBER 10.

The trio, not having enough money to pay their way into Oregon, are left with one option:

Caulk down the river.

((Warning: from here on, everything's fictional. If there are any fight scenes in Oregon Trail, I haven't gotten to them yet. >.> ))
As they begin down the river, Tim and Brian put their plan into action. As Alex chastises them for not saving their money wisely, Tim tackles Alex to the floor of the wagon, shifting it, setting it off course.
While Tim holds Alex down, Brian quickly loads his rifle, his breath ragged, the november air chilling them as his old ailments begin to take hold.

Alex, still healthy as the day they left, pushes Tim off of him and goes for Brian before he's loaded a bullet into the gun. He grabs the barrel and wrestles with him for a few moments, trying to force the barrel under Brian's chin.

Rising shakily to his feet, his leg still wobbly, Tim rises up and pulls a hunting knife from a nearby sheath, stabbing it into Alex's arm.

Alex yells in pain and stumbles off of Brian, the knife lodged firmly into his arm. As he backs up toward the wagon's exit, and Brian points his rifle at Alex's chest, he pleads.

" Wait, dammit! Just wait! You can't kill me now! I have to get to it! I have to get to the Ark! It's here, I know it! I can't die now!!!"

Tim pants, rising back up. " Yeah." he snarled, a single bullet from the rifle firing into Alex's stomach, the force of the shot from close range knocking him out of the wagon and onto a nearby rock, where he lays, sprawled out and limp, blood leaking into the stream. " You can."

As the wagon passes by, Tim and Brian look one last time at Alex, watching his motionless body slide into the river. And they both know that this is the end of the nightmare. In Oregon, they can make a new life for themselves. Take new names. Find wives and get married. And though the memory will always linger of the events of these last few, harsh months, it will only be in the past.

But had they gone back to that shore upon docking their wagon, had they waited just a few minutes, they would have seen a cold, pale hand rise from the water and draw a symbol into the sand: a circle with two lines intersecting in an "X".

And then they would have heard the crunch of finely-cobbled shoes against dead leaves, as something approached the hand's owner from the woods, wearing a suit that nicely complimented its slender frame, with long, outstretched arms, as if welcoming the hand's owner home...

So yeah, this was a thing I did. Sorry there were alot of loose ends and if the ending seemed rushed. It was difficult doing a story based around Oregon Trail of all things anyway, much less try and make it MH related. I probably should've waited a week or so to do this after the new "bros losing stuff, or it was taken" meme cooled off, but my apple emulator lacks a save game feature.

Hope people got a sliver of entertainment out of it. Sorry again for walls of text.
