I quite like TT, although I thought the recent episode with the laughing and the blood was a bit stupid. Not convincing at all.

Stuff like the strange phone call, and the way he's been able to do the tentacles really stand out as top-notch.

I just watched Tribe Twelve for the first time, the whole thing. The first ten episodes or so were pretty stupid. It seemed like a Marble Hornets knockoff to me, basically. Then it suddenly got really interesting after that. Still nowhere near as well-done as MH, but cool.

I've tried multiple times to get into EMH and it's never appealed to me. I don't like it at all.

NOTE: (This is a response to the whole TT/EMH discussion, I just quoted this since it's the last one that was posted.)

I've had a little bit of love/hate with EMH and Tribe Twelve since I started following MH last year and was looking into the Slendy ARGs.

Tribe Twelve I thought was interesting, especially since they have some pretty good visual effects and make a point to use the Slentacles, but apart from that I absolutely loath it. The protagonist's acting never seems to get better. I was hopeful for a little bit during the Thanksgiving videos he just posted, but the end with the blood and laughing just killed it. It doesn't help the story pretty heavily ripped off MH/Jay/TTA.

EMH I really really didn't like at first, but I'm starting to appreciate it for being its own thing. It was tongue-in-cheek as hell about the MH influences in the first videos with the fake Slenderman (which I appreciate), and once shit started going down it became its own thing and got a lot better. Now it's the first legit Slenderman ARG that actually uses some pretty intense game elements with the Seven Trials, even if they don't really relate much to Slenderman and are more focused on The Rake and HABIT now. The acting is actually halfway decent in that too (it got better, at the very least, and it beats TT to a pulp in that department).

I've read a few of the blogs here and there and glanced at a few of the minor YouTube series. I've seen one YT series that impressed me (MyDarkJournal - http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31436) and a few blogs that weren't too shabby, but apart from that... eh? I think MH sets the standard, EMH takes that and turns it in a different direction, TT tries to emulate the standard with some sub-par acting but an interesting twist and good spFX, and most of the rest... well let's just say one video series had a kid with a potato sack on his head in a suit... so yeah...

- - -

EDIT (Because I don't wanna double-post) Does anybody else have this problem but me? When you go to check the YouTube page and see the 'last visited' time is very, very recent and you think 'OH NEW ENTRY!' and then realize there is no Twitter post and thus probably no video, and Troy is just checking the account? Razz

Tribe Twelve has become interesting in its own right. I keep wanting him to put out more, but he's been quiet. I guess OOG the creator has been really busy. Sad

EMH wouldn't be so bad if not for that damn SEVENTRIALS side-story they've got going. I'm interested in HABIT, but more in the sense of "Why the hell are the names that pop up in the psych ward documents the same as the main characters', and why does it make them out to be like 10 years older than they're supposed to be?"

Weeeell, since our topic of conversation seems to be EMH/TT:

EMH: I like this. I like this very much. Except since the SevenTrials thing started, I've completely lost track of what's going on. Seriously, what's going on? I'm so confused. o.o

TT: I sound like a wimp, but my main annoyance about TribeTwelve is Noah's constant use of the F-bomb. URGH. Gets on my nerves. Honestly, the only reason I'm still watching is that Noah seems to be located in my general area, meaning if he did any ARG-ish stuff like EMH, I'd be able to participate. Which would make everything much cooler. Smile

And back to MH: I'm having a mini F5 party on totheark's channel. Just in case he decides to post videos on Fridays like J posts them on Tuesdays. (Or super-early Wednesdays, as the case may be.)

I was trying to explain this to a friend that watches MH and TT with me, but didn't want to sit down and watch EMH because I said it was scattered. I wonder why they haven't looked into that more, if it was my name on those papers... I'd be contacting anyone and everyone I could think of... not playing a game in which I am referred to as a rabbit.

They never did find Jessa either, but Jeff doesn't seem too concerned with that at the moment.

EMH was pretty rad to begin with, but once it became so clustered with people seeking to interact, and they expanded beyond the youtube and the tumblr and the occasional livestream, it became to cumbersome to follow unless you were spending a couple of hours on it every day. Felt more like work to follow than fun, unfortunately!

I haven't really watched TT. The fact that they ripped off MH and that speech by the grampa from the SA forums is sort of an unforgivable sin for me; if they redid the beginning such that it wasn't the video version of art theft, I think I might go look through it with some sense of interest, but for now I haven't done more than skim a video here and there.

As for MH going away from nightmare fuel... I don't know. I don't feel as nervous that Slenderman/The Operator and/or Masky will jump out at me in the night, but I find myself pretty invested in following this story. After watching #35, I was shaking in my seat, which is something that earlier videos hadn't really caused. The jump scares were fun, but #35 left me jittery and in a state of suspense that had nothing to do with spotting Slendy. It was kind of awesome, being invested in watching the progress of the characters and then seeing them -- each in their own way -- get into trouble. Maybe it was more cathartic?

In any case, I can't wait for more! I think that if they get as far as video #44, I'm going to make a 'sequel' poster following the lines of this guy; I have part of the composition in mah brains, just waiting for more content to fill it out, montage style! (As for #44, it's just that I came into the series at around #22; one poster every twenty-two videos seems like enough lee-way to fill an 11x17 space to me. XD)

They have stated in-game that every time they they try to access the documents that players have found and uploaded, the links are dead to them. Likewise, they don't see the "morse code" videos posted on their channel either. In other words, they are not privy to this information.

@Dray:
I know what you mean. You know that "Oh god, don't go there, I really don't want to see it" feeling you get watching horror movies? Where you (as the viewer) are actually afraid of seeing the big bad? I'm not getting this with MH lately. Sad

Edit: I need to rant here for a little bit. I've seen about three different posts lately using information from The Tutorial to justify certain theories about Marble Hornets. Not only is this OOG, but it's another ARG entirely. I thought we had all agreed that other ARGs have no bearing on MH?

I had this weird thought that Tim's mask actually looked like Jay, but I can't really figure out what part I'm looking at that looks like him. At the time, it seemed pretty important, but I might just have been fever-dreamin'.

This. So much. The first couple vids I really liked--more than MH actually, but then it all just went down hill. It's not enjoyable to get all excited about a new vid, watch it, and have no idea what's going on because you were completely unaware there was this random other blog (previously unmentioned) that you were supposed to keep track of this entire time. Just no fun at all.

As for TT, I gave it a chance, I really did, but these recent updates? Come on. That error message looks like something an 11-year-old boy would try to pull.

I'm really like this newer one--MLAndersen0. It's only like 6 entries in, but it's really good so far. I'm just hoping it doesn't flop for me like EMH did ><

I haven't even heard of that latest one that you mentioned.

And... topic skip, I know, but it's only been four days since #35 came out and blew my mind?!

I need another hit, man! I'm starting to get the shakes!

So in response to the "You play too?" of JKat in the other thread, yes, yes I do play. I'm a huge D&D fan, and I've played both 3.5ed and 4th edition, though I'm a bigger fan of 3.5, mostly because it's more versatile mechanics wise. But I've built like 3 or 4 4th edition characters.

My favorite would probably be my drow sorcerer, who I optimized as a Combat Intimidator, he would let the team wreck shit until bloodied, and then intimidate them off the field. It was awesome.

But I know a lot of tricks in 3.5ed, I really love it.

I heard there were a good handful of things in 3.5 that were so broken that knowledgable players could really clean up. But then again, one of the guys in my group is crafty as hell -- he broke his character so that he basically had a move that gave him endless damage. I can't remember exactly how (man I am too casual a player to know all the little nuances) but it was something like, he had an ability that let him get in a second strike if he had a weapon in his other hand, and then the weapon in his other hand had an ability that let him use his primary weapon again. That one got used once, and then DM'd away so fast, oh man.
