It's not baseless. You already clearly think that the appointed leaders will be made to offer themselves up as sacrificial lambs for "the good of the team", meaning you planned on such a thing when nominating yourself. This means that you had no issue with such an idea before it was even considered a possibility by the masses.

That itself leads me to the conclusion that you'd rather lay down and die than fight, since you appear to think that'll be the end result of leadership.
