Or maybe we're just depriving a poor fictional character of critical information. Poor Ethan.

If that's the case, then perhaps it behooves us to provide him with said information... Wink

perhaps in the place of the cd's we should leave an envelope...and inside, all the letter says is "the matrix has you..." lol

I posted this on the other thread, but in regards to whether or not we're supposed to take the CDs, I 100% believe that we are.

Firstly, I asked the guy at Cyberia Chicago if I was supposed to take the CD (I wasn't goint to at first, because I didn't want BrianEnigma to be mad at me for taking evidence!), and he said, "Yep, take it. It's yours." I really feel like he was told what to say by the PMs.

Also, it would be SILLY if the PMs didn't think we'd take the stuff after they told us where to find it. If we didn't take the stuff, eventually someone else would!

Now, if you want to ask the moral question: if this game was a reality is it morally right for us to do this? No, I guess it isn't. But hey, this is a game, and we know it, and they know we know it. Wink

Ok, I gave in and asked my friend at Cornell for help. I'll let you know when she replies. Very Happy

Also, I e-mailed ethanSPLATthenekodas.com with attachments of the files, sounding very apologetic about having intruded on his privacy. Heehee...I doubt anything will happen, the e-mailing characters thing has not led to any interaction so far, has it? Oh well, it's worth a try...

Perhaps when a person finds a CD they should leave a note with the webaddress of the Unfiction forums... that way, if someone who's not on this website happens to go looking for the CDs, at least they'll find it, come here and find out what the CD contained...

The other thing to consider is that they have multiple CDs, and that when someone takes one they have an "agent" Wink to put another one in it's place.

The intersting thing is that the multiple copies of the CDs can be justified both "in-game" and out of game:

In game, it would make sense for Ryan Emerson to have these CDs planted in various locations across the country just in case a few got lost, or so he could retrieve them easily without a significant trip across the country.

Out of game, it makes sense to plant identical CDs just in case they get accidentally found and taken, but also because there's a higher chance of "us" being able to get one - not to mention a higer chance that one of us who finds the CD will be able to share it with the rest of this particular forum.

Just came back from Santa Monica. Hope Thwacker has better luck than me.

Just in case, I'm going to list everything we did, but if you don't want to read this long post, the result is - nothing.

There are 2 payphones on sort of NW corner of Ocean & Colorado. There is nothing interesting about them, except a couple things about the "north" one:
- the number it is listed as does not work; I called it from my cellphone, and it said "no longer in service". The phone next to that one rings when I dial its #, but this one doesn't. So the phone# in question is 310-394-9546. I picked it up and dialed "0", it worked. It doesn't look like the phone # could have been replaced, though, 'cause it looks kinda old and is encased.
- there was a gang-note-sort-of looking thing on that payphone. I attach it (don't know what we did to the resolution, it's huge). The arrow points into the ocean, along the pier. The note is very fresh-looking, written on a label (about 20x15 cm), and seemed kinda unusual, considering there was nothing on any other payphones on the peir, except for some advertisements.
We looked on, under, around, etc. that phone. My boyfriend considered taking it apart, but I talked him out of it. There were papers stuck in the cracks where it connects to the booth-thing, but nothing interesting (I never held so many gross papers in my fingers in my life). Took a few more pictures of the stuff written on that phone (with keys or whatever, engraved into plastic, and also with markers; if you want to see them, let me know)

Then we went to the pier. On what would be the NW corner of the pier, there is no payphone (that one that yeahyeah's friend was talking about would be sort of SW - it even still has that gross candy on it). On the NW corner of the pier there is a dumpy restaraunt (Mariasol, 310-917-5050). No payphone inside it. I actually went in and asked if there was anything left/held there for Mr. Emerson, and the girl asked one of the guys, but they have not heard of anything like that.

The pier is sort of square at the base (where PCH is). On the NW corner of that, there are 4 payphones; I almost fainted when I saw a white envelope on top of one of them, but it turned out to be a contract/order thing for children's parties from some place next door.

Looked at ALL the other payphones on the pier.

Under the pier is where "PCH 'cross' Colorado" would actually be. We went all around there - there are no payphones. There is like a caged off area, but nothing but garbage in it (I took a picture, but I don't want to take up board space unnecessarily, so I won't attach it. If someone wants to see it, let me know).

PCH there actually goes through a tunnel under Colorado, drove through it - nothing: no payphones, no call-boxes.

Realized PCH & Colorado might be another location - where on one side of Colorado it's the "1" and on the other it's Lincoln Blvd. Went there; there were 2 payphones on the NW corner (next to Dennys). Nothing.

Then we just left. If there is a clue hidden there, then either:
- we didn't see it
- someone took it
- we didn't find the right place to look

Well, it's either a mysterious code, or illegible artistic scribbles.

I also suffer from the inability to read what that note is actually saying.

To be honest, I think it's just a graffiti sort of thing, though gang-bangers in LA usually write on existing stuff stuck on something. But maybe these ones happened to have peeling lables with them.

I'm not convinced that the letter at the beginning of the first and last line is a "Y." It looks like it might be a K or deformed H, which would make the last like "cask" or "cash." I'm a little confused by the typographic symbols at the end of lines: the arrow, asterisk, and (c). Could the "C" be "Caesar?" Although now that I stare at it, it looks like each line is terminated with a |___ and a typographic symbol.

Could we be searching for meaning in random unrelated graffiti? Does the sticker have an Underscore logo? Wink The fact that it is not permanent graffiti and simply a paper sticker does lend to the theory that is was placed by PM's. Plus, how many people are walking around with blank stickers that size? On the other hand, it could be a random tagger. I knew someone who would always carry around chalk and random write a word on things for no reason other than being arty.

exactly...no one has sticky labels with them, least of all gang members...and its definitely only that writin on the label, its not had writin written on top of what used to be on it...seems like it might be there on purpose.

if the top line is bonicy, then maybe it anagrams to "by coin" as in, pointing to the coin dispencer and coin slot on the telephone (doubt it...but maybe)

so you mean it says cash, and the h is used as part of the smiley face...definitely graffiti style, and definitely plasuable...the C at the end could well mean caesar (spec), its definitely a smiley face like this: =) if it says cash, that would again relate to maybe the coin part of the fone? who knows.

The problem is that it looks so abstract. I mean, for all we know, it could just be a bunch of random scribbles.

Wait, we're the people who started analysing the clouds in that one picture. Okay, never mind.

ive just noticed, that where there is a small rip on the top left, it has been ripped before its been written on...if u zoom in u can see the pen doesnt meet the edge, so they ripped it before writtin maybe...to make it look authentic?

ahh screw it...its probably nothing Sad
