Strange Video File Found on Computer Not actually kidding - I found a random vid file! Look at me, I'm posting in an OOG area! So you can tell this isn't a rabbit hole or anything! < Just thought I'd make that clear - because I'm very confused at the moment.
I discovered I had a rather large .zip file on my work computer, I opened it up and it contained a video file (which is odd because usually the network will block files like this). I'll upload it to youtube later (if I can somehow transport it home).
For now, the jist is as follows:
Random dark figure walking across dark snowy landscape (almost dragging his feet) - flash screen of scary face - more dark figure walking across dark snowy landscape. Overall it's 10s long. The filename is ",.mpg" and it says it was created 01/01/2006 - which is way before I joined uF and even started this job!
Weirdest thing - whenever I try to take a screenshot the image blacks out.
Now, you may be thinking "this is totally a rabbithole", but its not! I promise! I'm just confused as to which game this video has come from. I've probably downloaded it a while back and just forgotten.
If anyone recognises the description, let me know! Really curious.

Yep - I only just started the thread by the way, so it's no surprise that noone has looked into it yet
I've emailed it to myself, I'll upload it to my youtube channel a bit later.

Yep - I've got a number of Zip files, my job involves me dealing with a lot of data and I thought it was just like the others.
I scanned the mpg first before running it

The description sounds like one of several horror ARGs from the past year. The date is probably spoofed -- that's the date of the video file inside the .zip archive, right? What date is on the .zip file itself?
Oh, you're on an office computer, and you inherited its contents when you started the job? Any chance of asking the previous owner if belongs to them?

It's kinda normal, happens with some media players. My computer have the same problem.
About the video, completly looks like someone from your job tried to play a stupid scary prank on you. The "scary face" have the have the same edition effects that the girl from Exorcism, common in those screamer videos.

Isn't that that Samara chick from "The Ring"?
Ever play Dracula's Riddle? You should recognize the girl "erida".

If the media player uses hardware acceleration, then you'll only get the "greenscreen" (black, whatever color) if you try to screen-cap; the video is played right through the video card as an overlay which isn't accessible by the screen capture functions. Check the settings for the media player, and if there's an overlay or hardware acceleration option, try turning it off, restarting the app, etc. It might also be due to the graphics system in use (directx/opengl/etc).
It's definitely not some supernatural blocking of capture process

I'm as cynical as the next ARGer, but not totally clued up technology-wise. So when the freaky video found on my hard drive couldn't be captured in a picture... well, the mind wanders!

What thebruce said...
Plus...
Try Ctrl+I (Or search the internet for the capture hotkey for your player.).
