Re: The Sound Guy is Not part of Hollow Men
Email from LD confirms this

Sorry, I don't find that conclusive. LD wouldn't know, would he? Think characters here. But whatever. Start a new thread and then we can merge them later if need be.

I don't have a blog at the moment. I suppose I could make one, though I've never been a fan of the online "social scene," as some may call it. I do believe someone I've been communicating with has had no end of amusement due to my being a "lolnoob."

A shame that proper language seems to be dying despite the fact there are excellent intellectual resources so readily available...

I do own a computer. It's how, I suspect, our little... associate... is able to get on it and look at the documents I have saved upon it. It is extremely annoying, to say the least.

Ah, speaking of our associate, here is the latest scrawling. It seems as if it's something a child would do, doesn't it? And that's what this person is. A deluded child. I left it untouched, even my camera, using my phone to take the picture instead. I'm sorry if it's not too clear.

I do hope you're able to travel safely. The weather can be fickle and powerful, so be careful.

I looked at the picture, and, after destegging it, opening it as a hex file, running it through a binary translator, feeding it to my cat, etc. etc., I've decided that it resembles something that looks like a drawing of a house being struck by lightning.

On a more serious note, LD mentioned that when he came home today, his computer was on with all of his personal info open, courtesy of our mysterious guest/alter-ego. When I asked him what kind...

Quote:
Just the usual things you don't want others to have access to. Personal information. Things you keep organized. Lists.

Things that are yours and shouldn't be seen by others. Truthfully, imagining this person going through what's mine doesn't frighten me.

All it does is make me angry. That this individual would drag so many others into this is something that I cannot fathom. Nor can I understand why my email is the choice. There are so many ways to create an email with absolutely no cost.

Unless there are others this person is talking to with another name? Hell, now I've gone and given myself a headache trying to understand an insane person. Where are those painkillers...?

Note that last sentence there, bolded for emphasis. A hint? Are we perhaps supposed to find what aliases our mystery man goes by?

Evenin all! Got a reply to an email I had sent to our split personality fella last night. Haven't cracked it as of yet, so I thought I'd share it with the hivemind.

First email - I had sent to amessageSPLATgmx.com. This was after the whole "brothers" emails and such From me:
Quote:
Am I the first? And is RAD my brother? Come on, Dad, give me some guidance here

His Reply:
Quote:
Please forgive him, he is a little impatient, a little head strong for now.

If he cannot be fixed then he shall be removed.

Use those who's skills you value.

He will not be watching but I shall.

But have no thoughts that I am your friend, for I am not. But the show must go on.

My email to L D/CrazyAlternatePersonalityGuy (after the whole French email)

Quote:
I can promise you I am going to try. What should we call you?

My latin isn't the best, but I'm working on the translation. What are you after? Is there something you want?

So, um....yeah. Open to ideas. ROT didn't show anything, but that's all I've tried so far.

This morning from work, I received the following from LD:

Quote:
Our "friend" was on again, it seems.

I really don't like having all of you bothered. The joke will be on them, no worries. I need to travel soon.

My reply:
Quote:
He most definitely was. Pretty threatening stuff, actually. IS there a place you can go? Maybe stay with a friend? He seems active when you're sleeping. Maybe if someone was with you, it would cease until we can figure out what is going on.

Aaaaand....from LD:
Quote:
Threatening? Really? The coward won't show a face but has the nerve to be threating? Disgraceful and pathetic.

As for staying with a friend... I actually have plans to travel in a few days. I'm meeting someone and truth be told, I'm quite excited. So technically, yes, I will be staying with a friend. Just not yet.

I've taken to locking my bedroom door at night. I think I'll start putting heavy things on my side of the door as well.

Sorry for the huge post, gang, but I've been on the move all day, and just looked into things. I know it's a lot of crap at once, but I figured as soon as I sorted through it, I'd get it up.

Looks like a Vigenere cipher, but I don't know the key (those missing french letters didn't work, good idea though).

New email from our bud, no subject.

First line is Spanish, according to google translate's auto detect. "You have not lived until you've seen someone play a house with a cricket bat." Ummm... Cool Story, Bro?

Second line is an acrostic: "A Hollow as the wind" Did he mean "As?"

I've gotta agree. While I'm not very "old school," I recognize almost everyone ITT as being here for quite a while.

Wooo, old school people.
I tried deCamouflaging the photo with the missing French letters to no avail, but encoding/decoding files is not my strong suit. I got it too, by the way.

Got a reply from our mysterious friend:

Quote:
Some birds squawk,
Some hoot,
Whilst others caw,
and yet there are quite a few that simply tweet.
Where can one find these at?

Thinking this was an obvious point to Twitter? I was too, except "Ahollowasthewind," "Uomirial," or "Ashollowasthewind" both aren't twitter users, unless I'm doing it wrong. ASDF. HALP?

Oh, I see. "At" was not supposed to be part of the acrostic, but rather, an @ sign. A hearty thank you to our mysterious friend for pushing me in the right direction.

As in, @hollowasthewind, or http://twitter.com/hollowasthewind

Cool. More poetry to read Smile The twitter account references a poem by Theodore Roethke called "In a Dark Time".

Nice Illy. Following...

Here's the Roethke poem...

In a Dark Time

In a dark time, the eye begins to see,
I meet my shadow in the deepening shade;
I hear my echo in the echoing wood--
A lord of nature weeping to a tree,
I live between the heron and the wren,
Beasts of the hill and serpents of the den.

What's madness but nobility of soul
At odds with circumstance? The day's on fire!
I know the purity of pure despair,
My shadow pinned against a sweating wall,
That place among the rocks--is it a cave,
Or winding path? The edge is what I have.

A steady storm of correspondences!
A night flowing with birds, a ragged moon,
And in broad day the midnight come again!
A man goes far to find out what he is--
Death of the self in a long, tearless night,
All natural shapes blazing unnatural light.

Dark, dark my light, and darker my desire.
My soul, like some heat-maddened summer fly,
Keeps buzzing at the sill. Which I is I?
A fallen man, I climb out of my fear.
The mind enters itself, and God the mind,
And one is One, free in the tearing wind.

I'm trying to be polite here folks. The PM understood perfectly what I was asking in the email - confirmation on if it was part of his game or not. The italicized words in the reply were notification that The Sound Guy and Hollow Men are not related. The italicized words are a message from the PM that it is not part of his game.

Since the only "link we have between the Sound Guy and Hollow Men are that each arrived by email, to a few of the same people does not equal that they are part of the same game as we have no definite link between the two. All we have are two PMs that happened to send out emails to a similar set of players at approximately the same time. Players got lucky nd got two fresh new games sent to them!

Look at the information in each set. Hollow Men so far has D receiving notes and scribblings on paper, and little things being moved around in his house; not videos sent to him at this point.

The Sound Guy has an audio file that sounds off to him. No mention of things moving around in his house, no mention of leaving cryptic notes or receiving them.

Sending emails as the initial trailhead happen in a majority of grassroots games. Please use a bit of reasoning here folks.

* MageSteff * makes a noise that sounds vaguely like "AAARRRRRGGGGG

I think whether or not they are linked, any discussions of TSG should be moved to the new thread otherwise we are diluting the discussion here.

As I've said in the other thread, if we DO find a link later on, then we can merge them - until then, lets just assume they are seperate.

This, I also think we need to start trying to work which clues relate to which game.
