[OT] - Additional IMAX footage

http://www.thehdroom.com/news/Tron-Legacy-Grid-Scenes-will-Expand-for-IMAX/8001

Thought this was interesting and just another reason to go see the film on a TRUE IMAX screen.

I remember reading somewhere that the director wanted this to happen, but he wasn't sure if it would or not. Glad to see it will be in. Now if only we could alter time, speed up the days or teleport to the premier day...

Wait a sec................... I thought a movie or scene had to be filmedwith an IMAX camera in order to utilize the full IMAX screen?

When we're talking about a virtual world with a virtual grid and virtual effects, you can set up your own virtual IMAX camera to film it Wink

Yeah, but unless you're entirely virtual, you're still constrained by what you actually catch on camera. There are still real actors on real sets to consider... Wink

But when you're adding all the effects, sets, backgrounds, etc.. in post, you can surely composite it into IMAX resolution. I'm not trying to say that IMAX camera's aren't required for full IMAX shots, I'm just trying to rationalize what's in that article; even the title mentions "Grid Scenes."

The sequences that comprise this footage, all-CGI and out on the grid, will eliminate the letterbox black bar effect and fill IMAX screens in their entirety

Also, TDK had a number of IMAX-specific scenes that expanded for the entire screen. It's been done, and I think it'll be good that way too. Much like the real-world being 2D and the virtual jumping to 3D.
