If the Final Countdown event isnt in San Diego and people have to make their way up to LA - who will be going up there? and should we car pool?

Since i have the day off I am down to do anything. I wish I had a car to help. But thats why I have my roomate Smile I just hope they start mentioning cities really soon so we can plan ahead

Is your roommate down to drive or will you be "borrowing" his car?
I'm sure hes down. I will ask him when he gets home from class.

Cool. I doubt my girlfriend will be down since she is already driving to Irvine then to Disney City (Anaheim) and Culver City then back for the premieres.

Isn't Mira mesa Edwards a true IMAX?

That depends on your definition of True IMAX... some would say that yes, it technically is, others would argue that without the 'giant screen', it can't be. My take is this: It meets all requirements necessary to be able to use the IMAX name, but it is not a traditional-style, enormous-screen theater like you might usually expect from IMAX.

I'm in if the actual physical presence isn't needed at 8 am. Hopefully the actual event won't start till the night, or at least after lunch since it would be a pain to get to LA or the possible SD during rush hour.

I'm thinking it'll be not unlike Zero Hour or Pit Cell, where (perhaps) a pair of cities go live every hour. That means things will activate over a seven-hour period (8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 1, 2, 3) and wrap up right around primetime, east coast. Probably a scavenger hunt for a code on a sticker at or near a bookstore; that code will unlock a piece of a bigger puzzle online that, once solved, will generate a page where those who've found the code can register for a pre-screening.

All speculation, of course... it could be the same one-person-gets-it-all drop, where coming in second means missing out, or more like the SDCC '10 Arcade, where there are thirty-ish openings at each drop point... Or maybe a full-on disc war where 42 Entertainment employees will be dressed like black guards, chasing us with Frisbees, and trying to keep us away from the 'IO Towers' where the codes exist to allow access to the gateway to the computer world.

Yes, I'm a geek.

Or guns, guns works too. Very Happy

But yeah, if it's a one person prize revealed at 8 am I would probably be out of it since it would be gone before I even got half way to LA or SD (esp. during rush hour)

There's no way that they'd make the Final Countdown that lame.

If they do....well...I guess yell "Zombie!" and use your gun.

91X

Unfortunately the Page is not working RIGHT at this moment (I just got home from work so I haven't been able to fact check this...) BUT, I heard a little tidbit on the radio today... 91X is claiming they have "the ONLY advance screening of Tron: Legacy in San Diego"

It is on the 13th at an undisclosed location. 91x has 25 pairs. SignOnSanDiego has 75 pairs.

That said, if this is a ground-based scavenger hunt for bookstores that Kevin Flynn would have signed at, I'd say downtown SD is probably the place to go. There are Borders and Barnes & Nobles all over the place, too (in fact, two in very close proximity to my place of work)...

Random Idea: We could convene for a quick strategy talk on Wednesday morning? 6:30 or 7:00 am at a local Denny's, so we're ready to bolt if necessary when the countdown ends? Or do people want to be at their computers at that time?

Alternately, wanna arrange for a meeting place (or two) for when the 8:00am message chimes, if we do have a chance to discuss before the hunt is on?

Nice thinking. I've been looking around at possible locations downtown myself. I found a Borders on 6th Avenue and a library on E Street that seem likely. A breakfast meet-up sounds great. Personally I would prefer to be at home on the computer just in case. Unless one of us in the group had a phone with internet.

This event is the only thing right now that makes me glad I don't have a job.

A friend works at Borders in Plaza Bonita and works back and forth from others hasn't heard anything, but it could be like the movie theatre situation where the management (let alone a pawn in the machine like my friend) usually doesn't know crap till the last minute. I told them to keep an eye out.
