I definitely agree about Union Square. I know Columbus Circle is a hub for the subway, but I think we'd have more to explore downtown. If anyone would like, I could try to assemble a little list of bookstores in Manhattan, just in case we get stumped.

I'm 5'2" and will probably be wearing my long black, button-up coat seeing as how cold it's gotten. I'll probably put one of my Arcade Aid buttons on my lapel. I think I'm going to leave class around 10:30AM so I would be at Forbidden Planet closer to 11AM (I'm right by the 6 uptown, so it shouldn't be a problem).

I have a netbook that I should be able to bring with me (I'll be able to confirm for sure this afternoon) and an iTouch (no flash), so I can pick up wifi at hotspots, but not supply my own.

Union Square sounds good then, it's still just an hour away. I'll try to get there around 10:30 too, I hate being late.

If it's as cold as they say it is I'll be wearing a green Ninja Turtles hoodie, a grey shoulderbag with some Green Lantern buttons on it, and a green-greyish fedora with a brown band. I'll probably stick the ArcadeAid or Space Paranoids pin somewhere on me, though not on the bag as I'm afraid it'd fall off.

The most I can offer as far as internet is a little DSi, but like samkate I can only pick up wifi. And it can't run flash. And it loads slow...okay maybe it's not the best idea, but the alternative is to also carry an 11-pound laptop and that's not a thrilling idea.

I should also mention right now that although I have lived my whole life in Brooklyn I have absolutely no idea how to get around the city, so don't rely on me for directions. Laughing

I have made an account for the San Diego group, FlynnLives_SD. We plan on using this to post on Wednesday. I just wanted to get it out there. Smile

That's okay, I know Manhattan fairly decently, and there are always maps of various sorts. Do you know how to get to the Planet?

I'd love to be there on the ground. Hopefully, I can be.
But law school has been quite demanding as of recently (always).

I can try to lend internet support or, depending on how long this thing goes until, I'll make it to the city later.

Slight change of plans on my part- looks like my wife has decided to join me. So, we are a 6'4" white guy and a 5'2" chinese woman. I think we'll stick out enough to be identifiable. Besides, how many people are going to be hanging out outside the store in the cold?

Come to think of it, hanging out outside is kinda dumb. I'll get a table at the Cosi across the street. When you come in, ask for Tron. Heh. This way people who arrive early can get a coffee or something, and we have a place to set up the laptop or whatever and figure out where we are going. That sound good to you folks? I don't know how many of us there are but I'll get a table for 6.

Edit: And now she may not be. Well, whatever. I'll be in the Cosi across the street from Forbidden Planet. See you folks there!

ny

I will try my hardest to get on the net between my counseling sessions in order to provide some sort of minimal support during the day.

Hopefully if this thing goes on later I can meet up with you all in the city.

That is, if I'm welcome to join up with the collective

No, we don't like your kind.

;P Seriously tho, don't stress. We're all friends, and all are welcome.

So, is everyone cool with meeting at Cosi across the street from Forbidden Planet? Ask for Tron.

I can find out. Google maps hasn't failed be before, and I think I've been there at least once, something will look familiar.

Just wanted to confirm that I've got the netbook. In terms of Manhattan knowledge, I spent both high school and college there so I'm pretty comfortable getting around (the East side, at least), but you all know it's a giant grid so I don't think we've got much to worry about besides the amount of ground to cover. Dress warmly and I'll see you all at Cosi/Forbidden Planet at 10:30-11! Smile

Looks like I gotta sit this one out. I'm told academics are more important.

Oh well. Sad

I'll be checking for updates online and helping out in any way I can.

Good luck out there everyone! Very Happy

Great to hear! I was really afraid that I would have to bring my laptop. See you in a couple hours.
