[OT][QUESTION] Would you pay for a Tron MMO?
If there was a Tron MMO, and it was good, would you pay a subscription?

With the amount of hype and marketing going into Tron, with the potential for long-term franchise life (more movies, cartoon, etc), it actually seems somewhat viable to make a Tron MMO.

I for one would be very interested. Anyone else? Comments?

Interested yes, pay no. A lot of the MMO's are moving away from subscription (the only sucessful one being WoW) and moving towards free to play. If they did it as free to play with the option to buy upgrades, expansions, etc. then I would be interested.

Not for a MMO. Too many MMOs have a limited shelf life, of course not including WoW, but the list of extinct MMOs continues. Anyone tried Global Agenda or Hellgate?

The perfect way forward for a free Tron MMO would be Second Life. Those here who have seen my flickr pics will know i play Second Life.
With the right funding and organisation, it would be the perfect place for it.
Ive seen some interesting Tron inspired items and places in Second life and theres even a little RP in there if your into that.
Second Life would also have been a great place to take the ARG. I did contact 42 Entertainment about it some time back, so who knows, they may use it in a future ARG.

I rarely would have time to play an MMO these days, and most of the time MMOs destroy the integrity of a series in my opinion. This ARG is much more fun than a Tron MMO in my opinion Razz

So basically, yeah, I wouldn't buy it.

That's old tech (that and linden labs is starting to decline as well since they axed like half their staff earlier this year), the new frontier for MMO's is going to be browser based stuff now that they can run 3D engines from browsers (like that Tron promotion they have now).

I would pretty much flat out avoid any browser based MMOs. Free to play would be cool, like Lord of the Rings Online (which I am currently playing), which does an excellent job of fleshing out the Tolkien universe. I would not play anything like Second Life, as that's just not the kind of game I'm interested in.

Really? What is wrong with browser based stuff? The tech demos I have seen are very similar to client based mmos and the only difference is that you can be on any machine and be able to use your account.

I tend to buy fast hardware so I can really run a game properly. Browser based can't take advantage of the hardware as well, is too reliant on internet (more so than a typical MMO), and so far, hasn't been anywhere near as fully fleshed as an installed MMO.
