What can we do? (Sorry)

Really sorry everybody for having to start a new topic but I figured it would be the best way to get a reply (also where else would I post this?).
Anyway I don't know about others but as I don't live anywhere near any of these scavenger hunt clues (in a different country actually) and especially after not getting any weird phone calls I'm feeling kind of left out, I want to know how can I and others in my position contribute to your efforts apart from coming up with weird and wacky theories?

Well, as I am new to this forum and new to this kind of gaming (just found out about it yesterday) I thought this thread was a good opportunity for me to ask the same as Insomniac... How may I help?
All I can think of right now is that I can translate anything you experienced players might need in the future and are written in Greek.
I live in Athens, Greece by the way... I can also make phonecalls when and if that Aquapolis site gives us any...

...is there a guide for us new players as to how we can contribute?

(Please forgive me)

Well, to put it bluntly - Just enjoy yourselves!

I haven't been here very long, and at first I was in the same boat as you guys- it seemed like things were moving so quickly I couldn't keep up, and there was still a lot of back story for me to catch up on.

Eventually, I learned pretty much everything there was to know, and now I'm finally feeling comfortable with things. I really haven't solved any puzzles (except finding "balladsoffrogs" Wink ), but I'd like to think that my comments have helped to solve puzzles, as well as my speculations helping to advance the story, and discover new things.

I think that if you really want to be involved just hang in there. Read through some older threads, and follow as new stories and information develops. Eventually, you'll get a better understanding of how the puzzles work, and how they are often similar, and you'll find that you're giving more contribution to the advancement of the game.

The most important thing is to enjoy yourself, and the rest will come on its own Wink

I pretty much know how all the puzzles work, and the pattern of how we find which site it means, the name for user, and the password being an object in the pic etc...its just whenever a new pic is added, its done when im in bed due to the time difference...as soon as i log on, there are already 20 comments, and the thing is solved lol

I was lucky to experience the oct 31st fone call thing (not that i actually got called of course, being in england) and thats only coz i stayed up till 5am...lol

Anyway, I like the game, I'll keep playing =]

It looks like you are equating "all the puzzles" with "all the Paintover puzzles." We have had a number of puzzles that do not involve a site, a username, a password, and a base filename. For instance, there was recently the tapestry on Metadex, which took several days to finally figure out. All of Dina's little puzzles seem to be different.

Plus, there is more to this than just puzzles. Solving a puzzle tends to bring about another piece of the plot. There are still a lot of holes, but that is what speculation and discussion are for. Plus sometimes someone comes along and puts together things that everyone else has missed.

Just remember that not every puzzle is a PaintOver pic, and not all puzzles are obvious. Who knows, there may be something staring us in the face that no one realizes to be a puzzle.

Yeah, I appreciate that...just using PaintOver as an example...I'm not dissing the game or anything, the people who made it live in america, and its not there fault if its a different timezone...We aren't trying to make a point for people to feel sorry for us or anything lol

But yeah, there are lots of puzzles and other things to work out, so its all good...thanks =]

I still feel the same way as Insomniac and XTrava. Especially this week when the 11/6 update happened 3:00 in the morning, while I was in bed. And then I wake up at 5:30, most of the puzzles are solved and I have nothing to contribute basically because I have to go to school. And I had to wait even longer until I could join the discussions. Luckily there was one puzzle yet to be solved, and for the first time in this ARG I actually contributed (yet very little) to solving it. That would be the ballads of frogs thing. I found one single title and composer to one of Dina's song clips and I'm still patting myself on the back for that tiny little contribution.

Someone, in an effort to insult me here, commented that 50% of my posts are crap. I can do nothing but agree. I mean Jesus I'd really love for this thread to die, but people keep replying to it! Cut it out! Lock it!

But what's important is the 50% that isn't crap. I was actually going for a lesser amount, but thanks for the compliment whoever said this, I can't remember. Basically all I do is offer theories and questions that hopefully "50%" of them will spark and inspire new and helpful investigations. And that's all that this very computer illiterate girl can do. This ARG has allowed me to get more familiar with the digital world if anything. And I'm enjoying the investigation.

If you feel you're losing touch with this game, give thanks to Yanka and joebrent for this helpful little tool: Guide.

You're welcome. And speaking of which, would anyone like to contribute to it by writing a few words on the Nov 6 puzzles and Metadex files, and perhaps on the real-life clues of the past few days? I'm afraid I'm only good at smart-arsed commentary after the fact, not real time analysis. Trip, are you out there? Omnie? Bueller?

edit - BTW, BriEnigma, please alert me if you change the url of your thoughtmap. It's so well put together, I'd hate to lose the link.

You're acting as if there is something wrong with smart-arsed commentary! Smile

As for a run-down of finding the Chicago CD, feel free to use my initial message board post on this board, which describes the process. Then you can link to BrianEngima's site to show the files.

Also, you'll need to add Ryan Emerson and his wife, and Murpha.com to the guide now. Smile

Okay, you know, I was thinking about this some more.

I definitely feel this way a lot, because I don't have much time to hang around here during the weekdays. And things happen SO FAST that it is hard to keep up with everything (yes, I disagree with people on the various matrix fan communities that say the game is too slow and boring - it's not slow and boring, it's almost too quickly-developing to keep up with!).

What I have found helpful is to check the forum as often as you can, and watch for new threads with updates. Then, when you find an unsolved puzzle, see if you can contribute! You'd be suprised what you can contribute sometimes. I thought it was funny how everyone was discussing the tapestry image, and someone theorized that it could be a unique-looking bar code. Then this guy comes on and posts, "Hey I work at a bar code equipment company, and that's not a bar code!" Or whatever he said, I can't really remember. But how amazing that he actually worked at a place that makes bar code equipment! Or, if your hobby is unicorns and rainbows, literature, art, or collecting half-eaten dirty candy from payphones - any of those things could one day be useful.

Next, try to find a puzzle that is unsolved (or, there could be more solutions). For example, the Oct. 1 paintover image. Or the metacortechs log in page. Or dina's hidden html files. Read everything realted to that subject and spend some time investigating it. Ask your friends about it. Discuss theories with people in #matrix. Eventually, you may hit on something that either solves the puzzle, or helps someone else solve it.

Also, you can help by compiling and anayzing existing information and solutions. For example, we have sooo many characters in this game, but it is difficult to figure out who they really are or how they relate to eachother. Who is James Avery? Who is his son? Is his son Caesar? Is Caesar Ethan and Dina's son? Is Ethan actually Ryan Emmerson? Is Robert Emmerson Ryan's dad or brother? Who is Todd? Who is Wogomo? If you look closely at all information relating to a subject, you may see something everyone else has missed. Read through BrianEnigma's site and cut and paste evidence to support your theories, and then post it here for review. Everyone could shoot it down, but the discussion could spark a debate that leads us somewhere! Smile

Oh one more thing, here is my advice on how not to look stupid. This happened to me today actually. I was looking through dina's site, and I stumpled upon the night.html page. I was so excited because I hadn't seen this mentioned before. Then I found the blueline.html page. So here is what I did before posting:

1. I searched the unforums boards. There is a search feature in the upper right hand corner. The search doesn't work that great (it returns entire threads rather than messages) so it is helpful if you search for something specific (mods, let me know if I'm missing something here).

2. Go through the relevant posts regarding the subject, and instead of reading each page, do a search on each page for the clue you've found. For example, I searched each page of the dina thread looking for night.html.

3. Then, go to BrianEnigma's site and see if he's got it there. BrianEnigma is excellent at posting things quickly, so if it's a new page or photo or note that has been found in the last few hours, it is probably there. (For example, I couldn't find mention of the night.html page on these forums, but I DID find it on Brian's site, so I knew it was old info.)

4. If you still don't find anything about your clue, head to the matrix IRC chat and ask if it has been found already. It's much more acceptable to post questions there, and people are more forviging and forget stupid questions quickly (whereas a post on unfiction is forever Razz). Smile

5. Then, if everyone in unfiction confirms your find is new, post it here! Start with a [NEW] or [UPDATE] then thread title, then [DATE].

Good luck!

Actually, the search function here (as well as other technical things) is just wonderful compared with other forums that I've been on. Anyone who has been to TLFC (The Last Free City) should know what I mean. Seriously, that's part of why I love this place. Mr. Green Anyway...I just wanted to point out that you can choose to view hits as posts rather than as threads. It's on the bottom left. That comes in handy. Very Happy
