I was just doing a quick search on Kevin Flynn and apparently there really is an author with the name Kevin Flynn, if he would have been doing a book tour at the time hillarity would have ensued.

Anyone local enough to go with shirts and posters to his next appearance and start chanting "Flynn Lives"?

pahaha that is funny. I tried deciphering the binary and entering it as soon as I saw that page in the book, but I must have done it wrong

An additional piece of information on the code pages: The pages inside the book are REAL manual pages from the three arcade games, unaltered in any way apparently.
If you want the parts and operational manual, a PDF of it is here . The code page for the Philly node was page 5-14, for instance.
Congrats on finding the 257257257257 code! I thought that pattern looked odd, but I just chalked it up to a space invaders type pattern.

Can't take too much credit for this. I think it was Broklynite who recognized the binary on the cover, and I saw his inspired work, mentioned it in the forums, and 42 gave him a shout out. It just stuck with me after that.
Besides, there are only 10 types of people in the world, you know...

I think that last code was intended to be a bit of a joke on an IP address. Someone didn't fully understand binary, because IPs range 256 possible natural numbers in each octet, but computers count from 0 instead of 1. Thus the highest IP in theory (and usually used as a subnet) is 255.255.255.255 - and going 'one higher' would be 256.256.256.256. Methinks someone got lost in the natural number to binary translation, and got 257.257.257.257 in their heads.
This means I am one of those 10 people.

But 1, you are clearly 1 of those 10 people.

Binary on cover I think I might have missed a link to a scan to check myself, but how many of the binary digits on the cover can be made out here?

It doesn't look like a regular pattern. I can only make out
001100100110
on the left stream, and
01100001011
on the right.
