The 89 Forever logo is so obvious in the film, with no explanation, and yet they so specifically refer to it when Garret Hedlund did the video for the Operation Tron event. Also note that the parachute in the film is not that used for Operation Tron. As for being back in '09 - 42E did the '09 Flynn's Arcade event. Back then, all we had was the FX teaser.

I think the 89 logo, was faintly on the back wall/door of Sam's hideout apartment as well, either that or I was seeing things.

also did everyone catch the black hole poster in young Sam's room?

Another Sequel 28 years in the making?

The Pitcell event was back in Feb 2010, that is where the first official trailer was released. That trailer features the scene with Sam on the bike, the 89 sticker can be seen on the back of his helmet. If I recall correctly this was before the ARG utilized the 89 logo. The first mention in the ARG of "89" is during Operation Tron in early April 2010 and later in April with the attempt to locate Sam in Rio Fiamente, Brazil, which is how we received the 89 pin and stickers.

You don't think those events were planned long before hand? I'm sure most of the ARG was designed in outline before the first Bit hit the post office. The details of each stage are malleable I'm sure, but they can't exactly just make up the story and events a month in advance - especially when they're using the REAL actors from the film.

I don't know how long the events were planned before hand, do you? All I can do is base my analysis on the facts at hand, and the chronology of events. The 89 logo appears in the trailer before the ARG. That trailer utilized scenes shot months before that.

As someone posted before, the ARG elements really enriched my viewing of the film. Although I left as soon as the credits rolled (didnt want to wait in a massive line to get my phone back). Was there anything at the end of the credits? I heard someone mention a nod to Hall H of comic con?

What were the two figures that CLU was looking at in Flynn's place? I seemed to think they were limited edition gold/silver Rubik's Snake/Twists put into a star pattern.

Am I misremembering those things originally? Could they not be shaped in that star-like pattern?

That may be in some movie sense, but they were also actual 80s toys that weren't Tron-related. I need some of the older folks around here to help me out. I've seen those things.

I'm pretty sure you can make that shape with this (or two of these):
https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Rubik%27s_Snake
And I know I've seen them in silver & gold, whatever they are.

It's also a very common and easily located desktop puzzle, the rhombic star, or other various names...

Nothing unique, except the material in this film. Similar to a neutral Bit, but I believe the Bit was less pointy in its neutral state; not sure if it was the same number of faces this puzzle either (too lazy to check right now)

That's it. Thanks, Bruce. I knew I had seen them. Not sure if you can make them out of 2 of the Rubik's things, but yeah, I knew I had seen them before.

Not a sequel but a remake. It's the directors next project.

I waited, there was nothing, except the privilege of being last in line to pick up your phone. Smart move bolting out of there.

You could see the poster in one of the early trailers too. Think it was the SDCC 10 one but not sure. I may have made a high pitched squealing noise. Wink (Not that I had an original Black Hole poster hanging next to my Tron one or anything.)

There is also a figure of one of the bots from Black Hole, V.I.N.C.E.N.T. I think (can't remember).

Aside from being a shout-out to the next project, Black Hole and Tron are linked in the history of FX. Black Hole's opening sequence was the longest sequence of cinematic CGI (as of '79), they had to develop a lot of computer-controlled matchmoving equipment for it (especially due to extensive matte work), AND it had the first-ever digitally recorded soundtrack. Wink Basically it was very much a large part of making Tron possible.
