Someone tell me please... Did anyone spot the Mickey? I am reasonably sure there is one in there somewhere. Also the original had a hidden Pacman (and the pacman munching noise at the same time it was shown!) Think there are any hidden video game images as well? I tried to catch some in the fireworks, but I didn't see any. I'm sure I'm going to see the movie again, so if someone spots it somewhere, let me know so I can catch it in my next viewing!!!

According to a tv in the lobby of the theater I went to that was showing clips and mentioning random trivia

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There is a stylized hidden mickey on the back of Sam's...motorcycle helmet I think it was. I know it said it was on the back of a helmet, pretty sure it was sam's motor cycle helmet

Well, that's actually Sam's "89" logo -- but perhaps that is some form of subliminal Mickey? Razz Anywhere the '89' appears, with the 8 on top it could be taken as ears Exclamation

Dumont is also a reference to the early TV maker, who was pretty much the sole one initially and for a time a television was called a 'Dumont', much as a wireless radio was called a 'Marconi'.

Thanks, I hang my head in shame for missing that in my edits.

Yes, Gibbs, not Dumont. Although then, it should be Gibbs Shipping, shouldn't it? Where did the Dumont name come from? I suppose he must have used that as his program/login name, similar to Lora/Yori, right?

I believe I read this somewhere and it might be trout. Dumont Shipping is a subsidiary of Encom that was created when Kevin Flynn was CEO. He coined the name as a tribute to the Dumont program.

It is definitely appropriate since Dumont was essentially the guardian of Encom's shipping system (he was the I/O tower guardian after all).

In summary, Walter Gibbs founded Encom - and created Dumont, Flynn founded Dumont Shipping in tribute to the program.

Even if it's trout, it's a concise summary. Although it's interesting...because I don't think Flynn met Dumont until they were captured by Sark, and at that point, he was just an old dude. Not a lot of time to realize he was involved with the I/O tower. But I suppose when Flynn sifted through the programs at Encom looking for things for his Grid, he might have come across the Dumont program, I guess.

I noticed the 89, but I assume that the video loop was some sort of official thing from Disney that would be accurate...I could be wrong. And, just wondering, why do people want to know where the hidden mickey is? Are they running a contest like the find the R2-D2 in the new star trek movie one?

I'm sure you know that the hidden Mickey is nearly the oldest movie easter egg.

Any Tron fan remembers the hidden Mickey from the Solar Sailer scene and it would be nice to know if they'd put one in this one.

The 89 logo appeared on the back of Sam's motorbike helmet.

BTW, a bunch of Atari games were in the credits, including Yar's Revenge. I haven't seen anything in the trailers...were there a bunch of Atari 2600 games on Sam's shelf that I missed? It was supposed to be '89, so that's kinda late for a 2600 on the shelf of a rich kid...

And speaking of Sam's shelf...anyone else notice that there are *2* 2nd gen light cycles, a white one and a black one?

I noticed several video game sound effects in the mix this time, particularly in the lightcycle scene. I didn't have an Atari so I can't confirm what they were from. I didn't see any games on Sam's shelf.

Couple things I noticed and some I didn't point out, nothing crazy cool but still Wink :
- In Flynn's when Sam is standing in front of the Tron machine, the machine behind him is Discs of Tron.
- Also in Flynn's but at the end when Sam is walking out, you can see an Arc Wars machine in the reflection
- the 80s pop songs in Flynn's at the beginning, AND the Daft Punk piece when they're walking into EOLC, are the same ones used when we walked into their replicas at SDCC. (Super surreal! Especially since so much else was the same, down to the jukebox)
- Noticed as Sam is typing things in on his dad's console that "last.will.and.testament" comes up. Iiinteresting.
- Love the shoutout to the original "entering the Grid" sequence in the end credit animation. Didn't notice first time. Wish they'd done more with the new entry to the Grid sequence in this one, but oh well. I liked the graphics we got on Meltdown better, wish they'd put it in the movie Wink

I also admit I was grinning this time at the line about Flynn's supporters not giving up. Wink Darn straight! Heheh.

Did anyone else think it's a bit ironic that:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
This movement was called "Flynn Lives"? Assuming there is no sequel, of course. Wink

Why not? Kevin Flynn lives on in his creations. His games (Tron, Space Paranoids, etc), first and foremost, of course, but also...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
...the grid, or what's left of it after the movie. For all we know, only the I/O tower was destroyed - they were a long way away from Tron City at that point, so who knows how far Flynn's 'explosion' reached. And for that matter, being the creator of the virtual computer world, he's also a progenitor of Quorra and the ISOs. Without him, she would never have existed... so in a sense, he's akin to her father or grandfather... she is just as much his 'legacy' as Sam is.

I just hope that Kid Dillinger turns out to be an alright kinda guy when Tron Legacy 2 (Tron 3? Tron Reloaded?) comes out, though I fully expect him to be angry and resentful that Sam's stepping back into the company, potentially blocking the way for Dillinger Jr. rise in the company.

And thus, we can sink the Sam/Quorra ship with this statement. You, sir, are my new best friend.

Yeah, they are the same toys I bought at Target. I was actually disappointed in the amount of screen time that light cycle had. I'm very fond of those old "bigball" cycles.

I'm fully expecting Dillinger's son(cillian) to be the main antagonist in the next film.

there wasn't a black one in stores, only the white one. That black one on the shelf was a black version of Flynn's cycle.

My Target has a black one in the same scale as the white gen 2... But it's a gen 5.
