Am I the only one who wants to see the Slenderman lose?
I say it's time Slendy got the beating...

Slender vlogs, blogs, etc. are awesome. Chilling endings that involve mysterious suicides and disappearance are great! Even endings that right out show you that the Slenderman killed the character are epic. I love them.

But am I the only one who would like to see the good guys, ya know, WIN? I'm not saying Slendy has to die (though that would be cool if played out correctly), but ya know, he can lose! I am really hoping Marble Hornets and EverymanHYBRID end with the protagonists coming out on top.

Anyone with me?

It's already happened. Look up the 'Breaker' blog.

In my opinion, you just can't beat a cosmic horror. Maybe force it into a state of inaction for a short period of time, but never, ever stop it.

No[/16characters] On a more helpful note, specify "beating" Slender Man. Do you mean simply escaping from him? Getting rid of him temporarily? Killing him? The only one I would enjoy at all is the first option. He's an eldritch abomination, beyond this world. He shouldn't be stopped. I don't want a "Did You Just Punch Cthulu in the Face?" moment.

I already won against the slenderman. Whacked that sunbitch across the face with a snow shovel, haven't seen him since. He's actually pretty weak. Those skinny arms aren't made for combat.

Ah yes, perhaps "beating him" was not the correct term. I do not think the Slenderman should be killed or anything (I know I just contradicted my original post lol), but yes, escaping him. Forever. Razz

And what is this "punching Cthulu" you speak of? Sounds hilarious.

It's literally just that. A human being harming or killing a cosmic deity.

The thing is, the Slender Man story is a horror story, and if you can escape forever from the horrors they cease to be scary. Maybe a Slenderblog/vlog can end with the protagonists escaping from the immediate situation, and maybe even winning some sort of respite, but it needs to be clear that the protagonist is always going to have to watch and keep up their guard. Because if they can stop looking over their own shoulder, that gives the audience permission to stop looking over theirs, and that defuses the horror.

So it was Punching Out Cthulu, not Punching Cthulu in the Face. Sue me.

*Calls up the lawyers* They'll send you the bill. Wink

It's a bit of a tossup, really. On one hand, yeah, we always want to see the protagonist win. That's just a fact, we always cheer for the good guy. But every coin has two sides. It brings up the question "How do you stop Cthulu?" The simple answer is "You don't." He can be avoided for a short while, possibly even a long while, but never forever.

Oh, and the author of Breaker put up a nasty little post about how he's receiving death threats for killing Slendy. Kinda sad, really, how seriously people took it.

I may be misremembering, but weren't the death threats from the characters (not authors) of other Slenderblogs?

I think there's two sides to the coin, and people have only really mentioned 1 in this thread. Yeah, you can't just up and "beat" slenderman, but (at least after so many stories have played out) just hopelessly watching them slowly lose and then give up isn't very interesting either. I think that if approached properly, he could be "defeated", but it would have to be set up just right, with special circumstances and an asterisk next to the victory checkbox. Like maybe someone "survives" him because they have nothing left, i.e. nothing that he wants, so they're left to just live on as an empty shell of a person. Or some elaborate plan to beat him is formed, and seems plausible, but the story ends without the "heroes" being able to enact the plan, due to death and stuff.

I think it would be better to create the illusion of being able to beat him, maybe even the illusion that they have succeeded, and then slowly come to the realization that their efforts did nothing. Depending on how that is done, I think it could be a brilliant story, so long as the writer doesn't get murdered by lurkers in the brief period where slendy has "lost"

tl;dr I think if approached a certain way, "winning" against slendy could be pulled off. Bonus points if it is pulled off and then ripped away. Double bonus points if it is ripped away slowly and painfully.

Is Breaker even in the complete-total list of all Slender vlogs, blogs and args?

I think people are just hoping it will eventually go away and they will forget about it.
