TRON: Legacy
Discuss the film in this thread.

I just got back from the premiere...I'm not gonna spoil anything, BUT IT WAS AMAZING! Definitely different than I thought it would be, but amazing just the same. As you guys gradually see the film, I'm curious to see what you guys think. Some ground rules: I think to be fair we should wait until Friday midnight to discuss any major details. Effects and filmmaking stuff is fair grounds for now as long as it is spoiler free.

In the meantime, how was the premiere? Not the film, but the event itself.
I'm just curious to know who was there and how it was set up and such. Red carpet event, I'm guessing.

The premiere was great. There was a huge blue carpet on Hollywood Blvd. that stretched from Orange to Highland. On top of the El Capitan there was a giant identity disc. Lots of laser projections of the TRON logo, Clu's light cycle, and the identity disc. At the end of the carpet, next to the theatre was the full scale light cycle in front of a cool TRON: Legacy light/sign. Everyone was taking pics in front of it. Steve and I were able to stay out there until everybody arrived because Steve was taking pictures for everyone. Stars I saw were: Will Ferrell, Bob Iger, Joe Jonas, Beau Bridges, the entire cast/crew of the film as per below (plus Joseph Kosinski, Claudio Miranda, Steven Lisberger, Jason Bentley, and Sean Bailey), and a few people who I did not recognize but assumed they were famous (due to the crowd/press's reactions). Another very cool thing was that I got to talk to the writer (I believe Eddy Kitsis)'s brother. He said he hadn't flown on a plane for 15 years, but that he was so proud of his brother that he had to fly in from Minneapolis for this.

And now...from my NOKIA phone camera (nice plug for them, huh?):

When we got inside, Steve and I got great seats! Second row of the balcony dead center!

The after party was across the street at the Renaissance Hotel Grand Ballroom. There was blue lighting everywhere. Food was catered by Wolfgang Puck. Also, Boys Noize was on hand to DJ for us. It was really cool just being in that ballroom with everybody who made the film possible just commingling with each other. There was a Kodak booth at the party where you'd take the classic TRON stance in front of a green screen and they'd give you a picture of yourself on the poster. Toward the end of the night I saw the two writers (Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis) take a picture in front of the green screen a la Garrett/Olivia (one was doing Sam's pose and the other was holding him like Quorra). TOO FUNNY!

thanks for the recap. dead center on the balcony is such a prime spot. glad you guys had an awesome time there. Smile

did you see any costume and props on display in the renaissance or el capitan? from past observation, one practical reason i might think they hold the party in the renaissance is because it's easy for displays to be transported to the el capitan.

besides the light cycle, they had the shiva laser and (i dont really want to ruin this, but its not too much of a spoiler) 2 ENCOM servers that were probably 6 feet tall each. also they had women dressed like sirens and others dressed in the high end tron clothing line (the line that doesn't even look like tron haha). also also, Sean Bailey's wife (i think it was his wife) bought and was wearing the silver "stripper" shoes theyve been selling.

Wow, sounds great!
Disney must be pretty confident about the quality of the movie to be giving away so many free showings. It's certainly a nice payback to the fans who have been so energized about this thing for so long.
I'm glad one of us got to go to the premiere, and mach1monorail was the perfect guy to get it.
Congrats, dude! Wink

Olivia Wilde's dress and Daft Punk being there make that pic awesome. Congrats on getting to go to the premiere, thanks for taking pics. Very Happy

Also, I want to send Jeff Bridges a razor because the beard should really be something he just does for roles. I'd get him something nicer than a Norelco though, lol.

And quick question, how much screen time did the light jets get? They look so awesome in the commercials I can only hope they get a nice bit of screen time.
