Jesus Christ....

Shocked I was saying 'No, please no, no, no,' when I saw the chair. This is getting downright awesome... and scary. Hoodies have now been made scary for me.

It was cool and all, but:
1. How is this series even Slender Man related?
2. Why was his hanging kicking at the end so terribly unrealistic? Confused

I think that the acting is okay at best, but the concept is decent. Then again, these are kids with zero acting experience more than likely and a small or non-existent budget. I give them credit for doing what they have.

That said, I'm not sure yet that this won't eventually turn out to be Slender related. They did summon something in the woods and perhaps their version of Slendy is a demon or at least they think it is or that's the best way it could communicate to them what it is that they would even comprehend. What came for this kid was almost like a Reaper and NOT what I think the real evil is.

Then again, I've been wrong about virtually every single thing I've speculated or theorized about on this site so far. Once upon a time I thought when playing these things I was decent at it, but now I feel silly more times than not. There be some smart cookies round here. Sometimes too smart. It's certainly tough to please or stump many from my readings.

Haha yea, well I dont think this series is involved with the slender crowd and honestly I think they are doing a good job. What I have heard from other sites is that the guy in the hoodie is a possessed friend of theirs.

I'm fairly certain Slenderman is not involved with this series. But the guys behind it clearly know of Slenderman, especially since it was posted in the comments on the EMH Youtube channel. It doesn't belong in this forum, really, but it's not worth its own forum because it's not very ARG-ish.

It uses enough techniques common with Slender Man vlogs that it's at least in the same genre, even if it doesn't use the same villain.

Either way: AWESOME update. Could have done without the laugh at the end and the "demon" still doesn't convince me, but the fact that they actually did that on camera should make people want to seriously up their game. I don't think we've EVER seen anything that grim happen to anyone in a Slendy-series.

I agree that it wasn't completely realistic whilst he was kicking and stuff, and you can sort of see how they did it (it's not a coincidence that there's that door immediately behind him), but then I'm not sure I'd want them to get too realistic - better to do it this way and show us just enough to make what is happening brutally clear without actually showing someone doing something endangering in my view, you don't want some kid to think that it'd be really cool to do something like this in their vlog series and injure themselves trying to be too realistic. Plus even if it did look fake it was still really disturbing to watch.

It was how he stared into the camera before he started to just grin that got me. The wild eyed maniacal smile as he preps himself.

Jesus, these kids did damn good with this update.

awakeasaurusrex and OmniMan

I think the only thing to change in the death scene would have been to just have the legs drop, a weak kick, and then just hang there silent. I don't know why, but that gives me a mental image that just creeps the living shit out of me.

I agree with awakeasaurusrex, I really wish the entity didn't laugh, it cheapened the scene a bit. However I disagree, I like the idea that the entity chooses clothes that hide it's face and identity, but are also clothes that wouldn't really stand out unless it was summer. Of course, who knows how this will turn out later on in regards to its appearance.

The demon in this series most definitely is not Slenderman, in #18 you had him warping towards the camera and he went to lift up his hood and you could see features on his face.
So:
Hes not slender
Hes not wearing a suit
Hes not got a white featureless face
Hes not overly tall

Hes not Slenderman

In addition, Eric has already sorta suggested he's one of those demons he was looking up.
The hanging scene was shocking, it takes a LOT of guts to do it and Grant's slight smile before casually getting up and offing himself was just epic. I grant them a kudos <-- there it is.

Actually, the way they did it is creepier to me, and I'ma explain why.

There are generally two ways people die when they hang themselves (or are hanged execution-style).

If the hanging is set up right and give yourself enough of a drop and given enough slack in the rope, your neck gets broken when the rope goes taut at the end of the drop. You need to give yourself a good drop so your body can accelerate a bit as it drops, so the sudden deceleration provides enough force to break your neck. That's why in executions there's a raised trap door and a fairly long drop before you hit bottom - they want you to go out that way because it's quick and (believed to be) comparatively painless. Snap, and you're done.

The kicking this time around suggests to me that Grant screwed up - he didn't give himself enough of a drop (you can see that he doesn't really drop very far at all when he kicks the chair), which meant that the rope (or whatever he used) slowly strangled him to death. They actually got that particular detail more or less right. And yes, that is a painful, terrifying way to go.

Sweet dreams.

Forreal thank god for something new lol. And honestly has any other ARG actually filmed someone dying??

As I recall, NONE of the other ARG's even have an age restricted video lol. EoE is taking it to a new level.

This reason right here is why my idea gives me the creeps. Think about it, the natural reaction towards slow strangulation is to fight and attempt to free yourself. What if whatever Grant went through was so traumatic, any release would be a godsend, even if it meant a slow horrific death such as the second type of hanging. And instead of fighting it, he just let it happen***.

Unfortunately, on retrospect, this doesn't work for video, because then they'd have to show a whole lot more than they did, and it would end up becoming a pseudo-snuff film instead. So I'm going to change my mind here, and I'll agree with you that the way they did it worked out better.

Eh, it beats the one about the man and the dumpster fire I was having for a while there.

The closest that I can even think of would be Tribe Twelve, one of the vids has a heavily distorted video of a man wandering around a park, before he starts to scream as something drags him off to cripes knows where as he still holds to the camera. Like I said, that's the closest I can really think of.

--------

***The following are details that are disturbing to ponder and are not official discussion of the vid. Read at your own risk.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
One of my former supervisors told of a case of this involving a prisoner who killed himself in this manner. He was able to sneak an extra sheet into his cell, and turned it into a makeshift noose one night that he hid under the sheet already on his bed. When the guard did his head count, the fellow pulled out the noose, tied it to a bar, and used his own body weight and gravity to do the deed. My then supervisor still couldn't figure out how the hell the guy was able to keep himself so still until he died. Of course, like another tech said to me once, "When some people want to die bad enough, they can and will find a way to do it. Just hope you're not the one to find them."

Main character's tweeting (as ExpofEvil) asking us to give him advice - I think he wants to make the game a bit more interactive.

I've suggested that he research exorcism rituals - not just Christian ones, but those of the culture the demon supposedly comes from. Other people may want to suggest other ideas.
