How about this? When it's done, they can make it go mainstream, then we all get to put on hipster glasses and form an elitist group of people who liked Marble Hornets before it was mainstream.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Roger Ebert is a terrible, terrible movie critic and I quite enjoyed Paranormal Activity. I have yet to see the second one. /opinion.

Ebert is the only critic who succeeds in telling you what he thought. Other critics like to tell you what to think instead of what they thought. He is also rather unpretentious and judges films based on their own merits rather than on the merits of other films - a lot of critics said in their reviews of The Golden Compass, for instance, that it wasn't as good as Lord of the Rings - Ebert however gave it a glowing review because it was a good fantasy movie.

Also you'll find that Ebert gave the first Paranormal Activity a good review, but a very poor review to the second one, calling it nothing more than an elongated jump scare.

/defense of my industry =P

I can honestly see Tim and Jay totally chumming it up once Alex and Slendy are dealt with, even if Jay has no part in it.

"Hey Jay, sup?"
"OH GOD TIM YOU'RE GONNA TRY TO KILL ME AGAIN"
"Nah man don't worry, I just want to go get some brunch."
"Ok sure"
"Jay, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."

Paranormal Activity is the scariest film I've ever seen, including Marble Hornets, but the sequel/prequel was pretty forgettable. The third one is going to go down the same path most likely but if you don't think the Bloody Mary scene in the trailer was well executed you're trying too hard to hate it.

Couldn't have said it any better myself. Qft.

However, I take it you haven't seen The Exorcist? (1970's version)

I just wish it was a stand alone, the sequel wasn't very good.

I found Paranormal Activity scary up until they turned it into mundane demonic possession bullshit. Real horror should last, and demonic possession is not very high on my list of things to be concerned about at any given time.

Marble Hornets works because in addition to Tall Dark and Eldritch, we have normal humans running amok. The central fear in Marble Hornets is also something far more tangible than in Paranormal Activity - the fear of being watched is far stronger and more everyday than the fear of random noises and movement while you sleep.

The Exorcist has its moments but it didn't scare me that much. However if you do believe in that sort of thing then no doubt it's the most terrifying film, and the image of the possessed girl is one of the scariest things regardless.

^I don't believe in tall faceless men, but it's still scary.

My problem with Paranormal Activity (1) was that jack shit happened. Herp derp derp, our hous es hawnted, ohno itz been followan me! uup, wer ded. The sequel was equally as predicable. Better, but I hardly remember what happened because it was boring.

I think at some point there were things moving by themselves, and people(s) die(?).
