On a serious note, I think Jay might be smart enough to not record Tim if he goes down this road; dealing with a situation as drastic as this, I think it would be a little awkward to blatanly catch everything on camera and then share it with the world. Having a conversation that involves a twentysome's revelation of running around as a mask-wearing-people-tackling psycho for years would be difficult with a camera pointed at you. All together, I could imagine Jay trying to stutter out his introduction to what he's going to say, and then going "Here, let me turn this off..."

Yeah, and that entry would just kinda drag on I'd imagine, since there's really no way to make an explanation like that quick.

Not to mention, from the way Tim sounded talking on the phone to his doctor, it seems like everything is starting to improve for him and get back to normal.

That's obviously all about to be ruined. Poor Tim.

True, but he is a part of this regardless, and as such deserves to know the truth. Jay's still got the worst of it, having been transformed into a homeless amnesiac by a film student's twisted ambitions.

If Jay tells him what's going on, it won't be for that reason.

Someone asked Jay why he didn't just tell Tim what was going on. Jay's response?

Quote:
Because he seems to be acting normal now. I don't want to mess with that since it's helping me out.

Not because he wants to keep Tim out of this situation. Not because he learned his lesson with Jessica about involving people. He's keeping Tim in the dark because it benefits him.

It's only now that Tim has told him he won't have anything else to do with the movie project that Jay considers telling him. Jay was perfectly fine leaving Tim alone, but now that Tim won't help him anymore?

He's going to ruin the progress Tim has made.

It seems like I'm painting a pretty dark picture of Jay here -- honestly, this kind of manipulation on his part worries me a little -- but to be fair, he doesn't have very many other choices. Jay has to play this cautiously and avoid getting shanked or having his mind violated. Being truthful from the start would have been an excellent way to alienate Tim. Who's going to believe some guy you barely remember spouting a cracked out story about a faceless eldritch abomination stalking college aged film students, anyway?

And it's not like he's ever been above doing sketchy things in the pursuit of the truth before (COUGHSTALKINGALEXFORMONTHSCOUGH), so this isn't anything new.

There's also the less terrible interpretation that Jay is out of options and just looking for someone who won't take him out in the middle of the woods, tell creepy stories at him, and try to shoot him, because yeah, that's certainly a thing that's true, too. Jay is terribly, terribly alone in all this. Even having someone to talk to would be nice.

I disagree. I think Jay's reluctance to tell Tim the truth before now has been about caution rather than manipulation, and in that sense it still "helps him". We've seen Jay do a lot of dangerous and courageous things in order to help Alex in seasons 1 and 2, and he continued to help even after the way Alex was treating him (in the months prior to the gunpoint). All things considered he's a pretty selfless dude, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt when speculating as to his motives for doing anything.

Everyone has a point where they're willing to do morally ambiguous things to further their own goals. Jay's no paragon of virtue, no more than any other person in the world. He's seems to be a pretty nice, well-meaning sort of guy, but like I said, that never stopped him from stalking someone for months. He did that to someone on a hunch. A correct hunch, as it turns out, but even if you look at it from a utilitarian point of view, the only thing he really accomplished was getting the Brian murder tape.

Jay will do sketchy things. It is known.

But I already covered the points where I laid out alternate interpretations of his actions in my original post, so whatever.

he was giving his opinion on it, and you already gave yours. no need to regurgitate what you already said in an attempt to shut his opinion down

On a related topic, I have a feeling that only reason Tim would get "pissed off" is because he would have found out that Jay had been lying to him this entire time; I might be mad too, if I found out that Jay had been keeping something so drastic from me for the sake of digging up clues when it probably would have saved a lot of trouble on both parties if he just stopped messing around. But I get the impression that Tim won't take the revelation vehemently. I think he might understand that an alliance between him and Jay may benefit them both in that it will get them closer to figuring out how to conclusively be rid of Alex and whatever burden they have to endure. But, I'm making this sound way too simple. Tim could relapse, I've heard it said, and that would suck for him. He might also have to deal with the mind-blowing fact that there's nothing about what Jay is telling him that he remembers. Possibly.

So, inevitably, it's impossible to really determine how Tim could react and how beneficial it would be of Jay to tell him, but like I said, I don't think Tim will be mad. Best case scenario is, he'll realize what's going on and how exaggerated this situation is, and tell Jay his history with the annex if it's of any importance. Which I think it is.

If Tim's amnesia is real, then at least there's common ground. Jay lost months of his life, and had to re-learn things through the footage he took. If he can stress to Tim that he has been there, he knows how it feels, then just maybe the two of them can realise that yeah, they're in the same boat.

If Timmy really does remember, that's not going to work. If Jay doesn't break the news kindly... It's going to work even less.

It's called Timnesia, son. Get with the program.

Well, Tim would have to have incentive to faking his memory loss (and I can't think of a good reason as to why he would do that), then it'll at least work his way, or one way or another. He would probably be all cool about it and have the whole "yeah, I know" demeanor going on, but all together, I doubt that's going to happen. In my opinion, Tim faking Timnesia would be a pretty poor reveal.

Also, Jay knows that there's a possibility Tim'll get upset, and he knows, like you said, what it's like to have to ackowledge that you basically "missed" a big chunk of your life, so I expect him to tell Tim as kindly as he can manage. Unless he somehow derps beyond derp.

Even if Jay is that derpy, he's still an amiable enough guy to know that he should break this to Tim as delicately as he can. Besides that, like I said, I don't think Tim'll act cross in hearing this anyway.
