I think he's found instructions he left himself before finding a way to make himself lose his memory. If thinking about Slendy makes him come after you, maybe J was in too deep so he needed a break, but thought he'd need to instruct himself.

Knowing him, though, it would be right that he'd forget to leave the password to the safe in an easy to reach place... Unless he was working with Jessica and she was supposed to keep it for him, but got caught in the amnesia dust/whatever.

Maybe Masky found the password (thus the cross through the 0) and thought J needed prodding?
