It would be cool having the 1-minute creepy entries again, but I think these tapes need to move the story forward, rather than just depicting some creepy event for a minute as the season 1 entries did. I'm thinking that these tapes will have something in relation with Hoody's origin.

With these 10 minute entries though, the story never moves forward. It seems like it's always just a video of someone walking through a forest/abandoned building.

I was wondering how he can not know if a tape is working, but now I realize that he's watching it through to see if the whole thing plays.

I don't mean to come off as rude, but I'm extremely tired of hearing these kinds of complaints about the series over and over again. I have yet to watch an entry that does not advance the story in some way, and I fail to understand why some people declare certain entries as "filler." Let's just take the last few entries for example. Entry #65 revealed some of Tim's mannerisms and behavior as he transforms into "Masky-mode." It revealed what happens when a person is "teleported" by the Operator. The dramatic events of this entry sets it apart from the claims of them just walking through the woods with nothing significant happening. Entry #66 let's us hear Tim discussing his time in the mental hospital, and how it affected him over time. It let's us know a bit more of the back story behind him and possibly the Operator, while also transitioning to finding the tape that Hoody has left for them. Entry #67 marks the return of Alex, and how The Operator still seems to be either controlling him or using him. The .5 entry corresponded with this one advances the story with Tim and Jay leaving the city due to the fear of Alex still nearby watching them. Entry #68 shows the human side of Hoody, and reveals that he seems to stay in abandoned buildings to sleep. The entry also rises some suspense with the chase between Alex and Hoody. And finally, Entry #69 finally answers the mystery of the distortion hole from Season 1. And it also gives us a great montage of Jay and Tim returning to the town from Season 1.

The entries of Season 3 have been some of the best that they have put out, and I don't believe that any of them can be considered "filler" or boring at all. I don't know what you guys expect them to do to fulfill your idea of moving the story forward, because I believe they have done the best job they can with it.

Not to over-analyze the tweet, but:

- It is not surprising at all that Jay tweeted about the tapes, and that his first tweet on the subject was a stall. I expected one like, "These tapes are pretty damaged. I'm working on it." But, this one falls into the same category - it's something to show that they're working on the new goal, but that it's difficult. Maybe they're even making some progress.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
OOG, this gives them license to delay an entry for a bit longer without stretching the logic of the timeline too much.

- What on Earth does "I think" mean? Either he's got the thing playing or he doesn't. The only explanation that comes readily to mind is that he's got it playing, but there's a lot of distortion or something, so he's wondering if there's more that can be done to get at cleaner footage.

- Given Tim and Jay's current situation, being in hiding from Alex and who knows what else, it seems to me that every post of any kind, tweet or video, is a dangerous act. They take a risk of being discovered every time they allow themselves to go on "the grid." At least one of the players out there, TTA, appears to be a pretty capable hacker. Plus, they've got to be getting internet access somewhere. I'm not saying that it's not doable, just that it's inherently risky if they're trying to lay low. So, if you're going to tweet something like, "Maybe I might have made some possible progress but I don't know but maybe it is but we'll just have to see," then I think the risk outweighs the reward. Plus, if there is something on those tapes that someone doesn't want released, you're just escalating the situation by forcing them to take action. Maybe that's what they're shooting for, but if not, this tweet looks like a big risk to me, and for what?

- I'm secretly hoping that what Jay finds on the tapes is the rough cut of Alex's original Marble Hornets film. Because that was more dangerous than any footage of the Operator could ever be.

"Burn them."

See what happens when I go out to have a social life? Marble Hornets does things. It's cruel, I say, cruel.

I hope this means we'll get an entry within the next week.

Well, I don't care about sounding rude: I am extremely tired of this hackneyed defense.

Over & over again, people post these "advancements" that take a couple minutes, sometimes less than a minute, out of a 10 minute plus entry. Also, these "advancements" are often only the most minimal of steps forward. Tim talking about his past didn't explain anything we weren't already assuming, & it didn't concretely confirm or deny many of our suspicions either. It was not "revealed" what happens when The Operator takes you, because we still have no context with which to understand what was actually happening in that entry. Et cetera. How do you not realize that you are engaging in semantics? You are refuting the letter of the complaint, while ignoring the spirit: In many entries, the advancements made are few & minimal, & are greatly outweighed by trivialities.

And for what reason does this straw man occur? Because some people don't feel the need to change their pants over every single Marble Hornets entry. Call the cops, that is unacceptable!

A lot of this stuff is like the tapes they found at the end of Entry 69. It's not so bad if they lead to something groundbreaking. But that payoff always seems to be pushed off.

And I don't want to hear "things can't happen in every entry, you know." They can, in fact, do denser plots. Look at the writing they did for The Arrival. Gameplay is about an hour, but it is packed with events, which I won't spoil here, but suffice to say that it uses many Marble Hornets tropes, and many original devices as well, & is complicated enough that people are still trying to figure out what the Hell happened.

Personally, I thought the plot of The Arrival was much, much weaker than Marble Hornets. Felt much more simplistic and underdeveloped, like a rough draft of an MH-style story. That could just be because they had so little to work with within the constrains of a very short video game, though.

I don't think any of this discussion belongs in the twitter thread, though. We need a place specifically for debating the merits of the storytelling or something, if only to keep the same tired back-and-forth out of the other threads.

I'm not willing to compare their overall quality until Marble Hornets is actually finished. Just that, for sheer density, The Arrival has more. It's supposed to go in the Off-Topic thread, I just forgot.

I have a feeling the Operator appeared when he tried watching the tape.
