Put it all together v2.0

Since y'all liked the document I whipped up for Beth's first PDA, I present to you a repeat performance for round 2.

This one is a join of Beth's e-mail to Phillip and her new PDA files.

Again, BOLD is Beth's own words, italics are the timestamp of the file that corresponds to her convo, and then the file is in Courier New.

I am still using the crappy Word format, but nobody complained that much, so here it goes again...

BTW, feel free to comment or change where her statements go. This was just a rough guess as to where all the code goes. I like the "Animal, Vegetable, Mineral" one best Smile

Cheers!

Thanks Wix! That made it really easy to follow.

Here is what I gather:

He shows up at her house. She says, "It's you again!" He says, "Yes, it is me."

She says, "How did you find my address?" He says, "I looked it up on your PDA." (Obviously he has the ability to interface with her PDA, to leave and gather information from it.)

She says, "So it was you who left those files on my PDA?" He says, "Yep, that was me."

She goes, "Yeah, I figured as much." He's all, "Well, congratulations!"

She's like, "So, dude, wtf was up with that tent?!" He's like, "Yeah, at that point in time, the system's visual and physics code was corrupted, so it had to be rebooted."

She says, "So, like, why can't you talk?" He's like, "I can't, my natural language program is corrupted."

So she's like, "Man, wtf do you want from me?" He's all, "Pleeeeese I want you to fix me! My memory and data-collection is corrupted. It sucks!"

Then she tries the 20 questions stuff. He checks himself. "Animal? Mineral? Vegatable? Nope, I'm none of those. BUT, I'm like totally real."

Then he's like, "Uh oh, I think someone might be coming. I'm outta here."

(Valley Girl accent added by me as a tribute to my home state, California.)

Only part I didn't get was this, when determining he was indeed real:

Code:
<response type="boolean">
      <range lower_bound="false" upper_bound="true"/>
   </response>

Oh, another thing I wanted to add. It is fitting he connected with Beth when he needed someone to fix his corrupted memory. She having worked at Metacortechs and being a programmer should actually be able to help him.

So, he's very clearly a machine/program as evidenced by the 20 questions answer. But, where did he come from? Is he just a Matrix program? Is he a messed up agent?

I'm sure eventually she will figure him out and probably fix him, then we should be able to have him talk and get some real information from him.

I'm disappointed Beth couldn't figure out the code yet, she being Employee of the Month at the world biggest software company. I think YeahYeah figured it out first, right? Perhaps YeahYeah should be given her job at Metacortechs. Wink Perhaps the machine would have been better off contacting YeahYeah. Razz

It's probably because he doesn't really know, or that depending on what you mean by "real", it could be true or false.

He's not real in the sense that I think he knows he's not human, but he is real in the sense that he exists...

Well, let's look at the whole snippet of code:

Code:
<communication protocol="cg://ara9975.lka18383">
   <bootstrap interop="standard" value="true"/>
   <interware status="err259"/>
   <message type="response"/>
   <test>
      <object ref="self" class="construct">
         <method id="has_value" return_type="boolean">
            <parameter value="real"/>
         </method>
      </object>
   </test>
   <response type="boolean">
      <range lower_bound="false" upper_bound="true"/>
   </response>
</communication>

This says to me that his "response" is that "self" "has_value" of "real." So, he says he is real.

But, then you have more information about his response. In other snippets of code, this "response type" is the ACTUAL response, whereas the rest of the code snippet is him figuring out whether or not something was true.

So for example, when Beth asks, "Were you responsible for those files?" And he does a little check and then finds that he was indeed responsbile for those files (sender equals self).

Then, he says:

Code:
<response type="boolean" value="true"/>

Which is the actual response itself. In other words, "Yes, it was me."

So, in this code where he is figuring out if he is real, he does some calculations and finds that he is indeed real (self has_value of "real"). But his actual response is:

Code:
<response type="boolean">
      <range lower_bound="false" upper_bound="true"/>
   </response>

Now that I think about it, I think it probably is the RANGE of true and false. So, he is saying, "Am I real? Sort of no (in terms of Animal, Vegetable, Mineral), but mostly yes. I AM indeed real."

OMG, is it....Smith? What if this takes place just after M1? Smith is pulling himself back together but nothing seems to work quite right....

Probably not, but....scary thought!

Or in a similar vein, what if it's a Smith copy that didn't turn out quite right?

I hope it's not Smith... First of all, I think he's nice Wink

But really, I just hope no Matrix movie characters show up in the game. I think it's just better that way.

Also, it doesn't quite make sense that it's Smith, or even an "evil" agent for that matter. He just doesn't seem to fit the mould for a "bad guy".

I agree, the game will have much more power if none of the movie chars show up. He also doesn't seem to me to be a bad guy - more like a slightly confused guy with a curious speech impediment...

Good thinking... could we just forget abou the Matrix for, like, a week or so?? so far it did not help us solve any of the puzzles... did it?
all we used were, jpgz and poetry and music... nothing more than that as far as I know...

we already saw all 3... now let's forget about it just for a week, and concentrate on the game's plot... forget about the movie caracthers... we could spec around programs and all that... but... that's it...

I guess so... anyone agree??

This guy is an anomaly itself... probably an AI of its own... maybe a loose part of the Labirinth or something... I dunno...

Well I figured out the encoding the first time she got files like this first I think, but I was drunk so my code for my converter didn't work until after Anthrax101 and BrianEnigma had converted them (I converted them to hex with my program, and when I tried to put it into a web basec onvertor I didn't see anything, since it was xml, and it was mucked up when I viewed source), this time I had them converted before anyone mentioned that they were there =)

hehehe... either way, "spooky monacle guy" is the Metacortex Employee of the month for December! Lets see just how far we can influence game reality, huh? Laughing

On a serious note, I can't forget the Matrix when considering AI man... I mean, he's an Artificial Intelligence not a robot: the only way we can consider him is as an agent-like slab of code: not necessarily an Agent as in Smith, but potentially a software agent disconnected from the rest of the system, like the keymaker, the twins or any of the other "old programs" hiding in the matrix...

have any of you seen ghost in the shell? some of you must have and those that remember the film will know that project 2501 is a "ghost" born within cyberspace evolved from an information/intelligance gathering program who finds its self a cyborg body then demands amnesty as a living free thinking entity.
on metachortechs in the news section they anounce the new 2500 projects going underway or something of that effect and the brothers W have said on numerous occasions that ghost in the shell was one of the biggest influences of the story.
I think its very possible that the strange pda man is a simmilar program.
Did beth work on the 2500 project? is she his unknowing mummy? Ie: has he indeed come to her for help?.
just a shot in the dark.

It's a possibility, but I think I disagree:

Code:
         <notification system="sensory" subsystem="monitor">
            <message type="alert">
               <detection>
                  <subject class="search_program"/>
                  <eta estimation_method="trend_analysis" noise_filter="active" value="imminent"/>
               </detection>
            </message>
         </notification>

Let's not overlook this.
Notification: Something's alerting him in his monitor systems ("sensory" does not have to be the same 5 senses we deal with... more likely a code/matrix monitor).
Detection: The subject that he's detected is a "search_program" possibly?

Which means it could be either A) a "search_program" looking for him, and he's on the run (could be why he's damaged...)
or B) he's detecting the next anomaly, and hence why the "trend_analysis" with the noise_filter turned on (to weed out the anomalies that don't happen in line with the others), and hence the "search_program" is his, looking for the next event.
