I'm all in favor of Vancouver - although Toronto would be excellent too. Mart points out it also has an amusement park, as well as all sorts of fine attractions. Vancouver I know has spectacular scenery and stuff - do we have any locals who can suggest what there is to do and an area we should be trying to stay in (it's a BIG place - we should probably focus on a single general area for our hotels). That may help get some perspective on costs etc. vs. Toronto.

I most definitely vote for Vancouver BC. I would totally show up for that. I love Vancouver. I'll start saving my pennies now.

I'm all for Vancouver, having just come from there a couple months ago. Since my parent company is up there, I can possibly even get it written off as a business trip!

Also, Vancouver and the surrounding area is an X-Phile's Heaven... from the Mining Museum (the building where all the file cabinets are stored, in "Paper Clip"), the quarry which was painted red to simulate the Arizona desert ("Anasazi")... the list goes on and on. Just think of the X-Files releted ARG stuff we could do!

On top of that, Whistler is some of the most beautiful country on the continent, and dirt cheap that time of year. Probably the closest alot of us will get to being at the Home of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games!

The votes for the timeline in Vancouver are for either July or August. There seems to be less opposition to early July.

I am so voting for Vancouver too. I had two chances to go to Vancouver before, but contradictions came about and I never made it. And it's a half-day train ride away for me!

Yes, I am a total X-Phile. Very Happy

My thoughts:

- I love Chicago, and was planning to go to Chicago next summer anyway. I wanted to catch baseball at Wrigley and Comiskey in the same weekend, and planning that around an ARGFest-o-Con would be cool!

- Vancouver was really cool when I was there for a few days before going to Alaska.

- An ARGFest cruise is maybe the Best Idea Ever. I think it may be a little cost prohibitive for most, though. Ok, well at least for me.

My vote: Chicago. Like Sinatra said, it's my kind of town.

Would like My Home town to be a base for ARGFest.

Just a note to everyone who voted for Canada, Has anyone even priced out airfare and see what the prices are... Canda is a very costly place to travel for some of us..

I would like to go, but not if price is way too high... Thats why I think for ArgFests and ArgCons, we should get a affirmitive head count, and then book a hotel for the lot of us... this way were all together and not scattered all over the place...

thats just Humble Opinion

wonderful

Wonderful!
It's great to hear that you're mixing up the ARGFest locations so well across the continent - and that everyone's considering the Canadian sites so much...

I would like to second both votes for Vancouver and Toronto - both are near and dear to my heart (although Toronto's a little nearer)! And I know that Toronto's got some great tourist promotions on since last summer went so poorly (what with all the plague and pestilence and all).

I'd recommend Vancouver's Gastown as the heart of the tourist industry - very vintage style with TONS of movies being shot on location. As for Toronto, downtown is key (I should know, I live there) and there are day trips to Niagara Falls, Thousand Islands, Canada's Wonderland, etc.

It'd be great to meet all of you!

Put me down for Vancouver around July 4th weekend. It's going to be hard for me to get a time off for the next one, and the holiday would help immensely.

Ok, so July 4th weekend seems to be the plan of the hour. In case anyone missed it, we have Canada Day on July 1st, similar to the 4th celebration (fireworks, booze, beach parties, booze, BBQs and booze) so you shouldn't miss much. Now we need to settle on how many days to do this. ARGFest 2 was officially 3 days, but most of us were there for 6 or 7. Since I've been voluntold to organize things, it'd help a lot if I had a timeframe to work with. And for the record, those who bailed on Orlando aren't being given the option of whether to attend or not. Kidnappings are already being planned for last-minute bailouts. You have been warned.

July1-4 Time frame is good for me too, that is the slow time of year for my work in this area.

Being fairly new to ARGs and not having attended AGRCon this past spring, 3 days was not enough time for me to get to spend quality or quantity time with many of the people there as I wanted too. With many groups of more than three people having a tendency to break into smaller groups to go off on day trips, meals, etc. It would be nice to be able to have a day or two planned just for schmoozing by the pool side on either end of the fest, with either cold cuts or bbq all afternoon - that way peeps can come and go as they need but we still have a central gathering area where you might be able to get in more than a "hello, I'm off to somewhere else."

Also you had better add my name to the kidnap list, I hear familial grumbling about finances in the background. Right now ARGFest- Great White North is #2 on the list right after the computer upgrade I have been trying to do for the last year and a half. Not to mention Vancouver is on the other side of the continent from me.

If worse comes to worse I take the full three weeks off at one shot, and drive cross country, and plan on pick up of ZMaiden, Sunny and Ozy on the way there. Pack light guys.

Seems like we ought to have a few BC'ers here who may be able to help out. In quickly scanning the member list, I found Gracer, Sauceykat, and Bojangles. Any of you interesting in helping coordinate, and maybe scouting hotels, restaurants, and gathering locations?

Any time in July is good since I'll be off for the summer! And I'll be taking a train since it's much cheaper, even though it's a lot longer. I can get major discounts with trains anyway.

Hmmm, early July would give us a long weekend with July 4th (making getting off work easier?) but it also means missing traditional July 4th type things.

Ugh, if it's July 4th that leaves me out. It's my daughter's birthday on the fourth (she's only gonna be two, so it's not something I want to miss) unless we do decide it's gonna be in chicago which I could be there the days before and/or after.

If it's not july 4th, I don't really have a preference for vancouver or toronto since I don't really know much about either except for the fact that I could drive to toronto and would have to fly to vancouver. Although I'd probably just fly to toronto anyway. The only negative about vancouver is that I'd probably have to visit my brother-in-law in Washington on the way back and there's only so many times I can hear about what I should to do prepare myself for the end of the world Rolling Eyes

Looks like I might be 0 for 3 on the ARG festivities. Crying or Very sad

Vancouver :-)

I have been watching you all have a blast at your ARG
Conventions... I would love to make it to the next.
I would have to vote Western US or Vancouver, however
July 4th conflicts with my 20 year class reunion.

just my 2 cents Cool
