From a "meta" perspective, sending an email that suggests "we don't want you to participate" is bad form in my opinion. I would have preferred that they not respond at all.

No matter... We'll see what happens.

Besides, a "tactical military training" and "personal security" company that doesn't hire morally ambiguous mercenaries?!? Seriously? Wink

They did just say all their PR was smoke and mirrors. ;)

Well, this being a game (I think? I don't know anymore) and being that they don't know you, I would be inclined to understand a cause for them to be concerned if they got an email from a player promising to "ensure" loyalty and compliance from other players. Remember, not everyone gave aliases, and many gave their Twitter accounts. You can track people down through those means. Part of this game is fun, but part of it is maintaining the safety of the players I'm not saying you would actually do anything crazy, Nighthawk, but they don't know you, and they don't know for sure who is play-acting and who might be a danger.

Further, you are an employee in the Development division. Not security, not internal affairs. Your job is to conceive of and design weapons that will prove useful in combatting the undead/reanimated menace, not to spy on and oversee fellow SAVER employees like a secret police officer. From a roleplay standpoint, what they probably saw was an employee who not only promised to overstep his bounds by undertaking activities not related to his department, but to take drastic action against his fellow employee, including murder if necessary. Hell, if I were in SAVER security, I'd have flagged you myself.

Let's see where it goes. I don't think they'll boot you for this.

Nighthawk.

Today, Wed, 5 Jan 2011 11:46:48, our team flagged a message you sent to our staff@ email address that, to put it lightly, worried a number of our employees.

Your message, in not so subtle terms, touched on ways that your skills could be used against our own people. While you were not specific, your point was understood.

Here's what is going to happen now.

1) You will respond to this and tell me that you would never knowingly harm any employee or agent at this company, or any company for that matter.

- and -

2) You will understand that all further corrispondance between yourself and this company is being scrutinized to a higher level than normal. That you are aware that your incoming messages are being read by us in their entirety, not simply scanned for specific key words.

- and -

3) You will answer to me now. You will continue working as if none of this happened, but If I have a job for you to do, it becomes your top priority.

-- OR --

You can walk away from SAVER Corporation right now.

I await your response. If I do not hear from you within 2 days, I will assume you have chosen to leave, and the above options will be voided.

Apparently they're intending to "reply all" to a group mailing list.

Not usually a fan of that, but I personally have tech in my games that doesn't make it an issue. At least they were considerate enough to mention it before it happens.

They could simply "BCC" everyone, but depending on their means of sending mass mail, that may not be an option.

That's what I was thinking... c'mon now, BCC isn't that hard.

BCC isn't reliable if used in bulk. I know of two mail server systems that, if you put too many addresses in the "BCC" field, will ignore the "B..." part of it and echo everyone's address. Granted, the address count has to be high (Ipswitch's mail server tanks at about 200 addresses), but still.

At a former employer, we almost got sued by some of the richest people in the country because of that.

we can all relax:

http://saver.co/2011/01/agent-email-addresses-updated/

which is hilarious, that the biggest drama that this arg currently has going on has been the bcc issue Razz

i guess jared is officially the hero Rolling Eyes

(it also really bugged me that they had used my real name from my email, especially when i had signed my initial letter with my twitter name...but I guess I learned a valuable lesson in that I need to change my email settings so that my real name doesn't show up...so I'm really glad they resolved this at least)

i wanted to say last night, nighthawk, but for some reason I'm having trouble using unfiction on my laptop, that on a meta level I did think it was a good idea the way the pm's handled your situation

off-putting for you at least initially

but then, it got the rest of us sitting around with baited breath to see how it was all going to play out...we were all waiting for the second shoe to drop

and now that it has, we are waiting in anticipation even more to see how this is going to play out

if they had just contacted you and said: why, yes, we can use your services AND you had posted it...then it would not have inspired confidence in the troops (who knows, maybe you were just trying to bait them to expose them to other recruits)

essentially, they are having their cake and eating it too by having the pretense of taking our safety/security seriously but also leaving the back door open to use you in the future

do you mean the trend so far in this game? or the general trend for arg's lately

general trend. grassroots mainly. hate seeing aim/irc/etc chat logs, lengthy one to one email exchanges and whatnot that are intended to further story... too much reading in too short a time Razz but that's just me =)

Thankfully I've had no real drama with SAVER yet. I'll just be quiet and sit in a corner, observing Razz

Nighthawk, you just got OWNED!!! Hahahahha!

And in, like, the best way possible! Consider: Now you're their personal lapdog, you have a debt to them for keeping you on, so who knows what awesome side-jobs to the plot you will be getting. Twisted Evil

I'm a little jealous xD
