Working on the Dev side task. Gonna be interesting.
Will get to the research, later, but will send off a couple questions first. Let you know if I get a reply.

Cult research

Hi team, I just sent Nelson Fuller a very brief email outlining some 'preliminary findings' regarding the potential cult connection.

For cult research of any flavour, my first stop is always http://www.rickross.com/. Rick is a professional deprogrammer who has been running a clearinghouse-style website for articles on every type of cult for around 10 years.

Hope the rest of the Research time is having fun with this - we don't have a Twitter hashtag yet so I'm not sure who's playing along!

Trying to come up with a good design now. I know nothing about weapons or physics, sadly, so there's going to be a lot of Wikipedia trawling!

I have submitted my research paper to them this morning. About a page worth of research was done, and info properly sited, just not APA format. Working on the Developmental task now, very brief with a pic I had found for a doom device. Once done, I will tweet a few times this week, and wait for the next assignment. I actually am back in college now finishing my Bachelors degree, so I need to concentrate on those papers, but these were really fun.

1) Setting aside the fact it would have required them to rise from the dead, could the initially effected birds have flown 30 miles North in 7 days?

So, what they're asking is: what is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow large red-wing blackbird. </ObligatoryMontyPythonReference>

quite nice, "but you see..Ah...We alreay got one" I took a Serpent in the Rainbow approach to the birds getting up and flying farther.

I'm going to have some fun with this... A mix of corporate espionage and movie science!

I just asked the staff what the rankings mean, and why we should need them. Not really important, just figured we could use some info on the rankings. Razz

I sent in my application for both Research and Media but have only gotten one message. I know that everyone in development got the research email to help you all out but I was wondering if anyone who was research and media has gotten a media assignment as well.

Also, I'm jumping on the wagon of " This connection with the current events in the U.S. is awesome!" I'm really impressed so far by this. Now I have to get my research done!

i sent in a preliminary report last night as well and noted I will send a detailed report by the due date

and then I just checked this morning and my preliminary report is a page and a half long

so this begs the question: how are the pm's going to manage all this output?

we already know there are well over 100 participants....many of which were sent 2 email requests

even if only 1/2 of us sent in 1/2 a page of research for each email (and that is a really low estimation in my mind considering how many of us already sent in 1-2 page preliminary reports since last night--and in the middle of the night even)--that is quite a lot to read and take in and reply too

i would hate to see the game crawl to a standstill because the pm's are dealing with 100's of pages of research :/

in an unrealated note, i also begged for more information on the group that tested on the birds, saying that as a researcher, I need all the information I can if I'm going to do an accuarate and thorough job...let's see if they throw us a bone

ETA: I requested to be in research and media and recieved only one email as well (from Nelson Fuller)

Ditto. Though I'm not sure I'll have to time to get to all this Confused *sigh* like I said, I tend to enjoy lurking and soaking in the story more than interacting and 'playing along'... ah well.
I like the connection with the birds, though I agree it's a little risky Twisted Evil

First thing that came to mind though from the questions was that they may be looking more for real-world implementations or examples of fantasy/RPG-style 'magic'? Not just theories about physical tools based on known physics, but supernatural WMD types of theories?

I think a bit of both would be OK. They ARE going after supernatural stuff. Don't know what type of real gun you could kill a ghost or whatever with, plus doomsday cults always involve some mystical element in RPGs and whatnot.

I went for a more realistic bent in my responses. I actually disagreed with the possiblity of a doomsday cult; most don't have the money or people to engage in advanced weapons research. I actually did bring up the possibility of Scientology (cult-like, lots of money and people, and creativity to boot), but I dismissed them since the end of the world is not good for Scientology's business. I instead suggested the possibility of black budget projects or a foreign government or something along those lines.

Also, did anyone else recommend an incendiary trap for the zombirds?

I did the same. Doomsday dont have the coin to research something big like that. I went with an Eastern Bloc group being behind it.
