Here's a couple of ideas that I think would be kind of cool for the halftime show at the Super Bowl.

1.) While the Black-eyed Peas are performing during halftime, either they begin singing the RP theme song, or the power to their microphones are cut off and the RP theme song begins playing. Cool

2.) Lights go dim, and RP theme song slowly increases in volume as a radio-controlled Rocket Ship (in the form of the one on the envelopes and RP ads, etc.) has spotlights trained on it as it flies over the fans and field, shining lasers over the crowd. At the climax, the ship explodes (actually it's a radio-controlled baloon in the form of the RP ship) and the explosion is nothing more than the "skin" of the balloon bursting, revealing something eerie with red glowing eyes and a LOUD sinister voice stating, "This summer IT ARRIVES." Spotlights go off, red eyes dim, and complete darkness, as a weird neon sign on the four sides of the hovering craft spell out SUPER 8. Shocked

3.) Or the RP popsicle truck races around the track as the Rocket Poppeteerettes toss popsicles, shirts, caps, buttons, and other cool swag to football fans who either have no clue what any of this is about, or, are too drunk to care! Confused

Yes, this is good point. I fear sometimes they try to invest in other target groups, which could sometimes fail, because addressed people don't care about the movie, and we, who cares, are let out. Well, in case they will really did it.

At another hand, appearance of Observer (Fringe) in sport events and "America Idol" was pretty smart idea - just because we could follow it in tv.

Xeno -
Don't know how the cost would compare to 3 million $ for a 30 second ad, but your ideas rock - I'd love to be there for the second one. Maybe Bad Robot should hire you for their in-house ad dept.

Do you think they could afford to convince the NFL to switch the B in bowl to an 8 to make it Super 8owl?

Or after the game when they ask the MVP "you've just won the Super Bowl, what will you do next?" He could answer "I'm gonna be a Rocket Poppeteer!"

Super 8owl Activities

Rocket;

Yes, having the MVP say something like that would certainly cause "buzz" (as I suppose any of the suggestions would).

Even having the crowd hold up square-shaped, colored 2 feet by 2 feet placards that when held up on one side would display "Rocket Poppeteers" and when flipped over might say "Captain Cooper," while on the other side of the stadium, the fans would hold their placards up and with one side, it might say "Super 8" and the other side "IT Arrives (and the openeing date).

Oh well, a lot of things could be done that would create buzz, but with the pace here, hoping for something Super Bowl-related is wishful thinking.

In fact, has this happened to you? You try and tell friends about the ARG, and they say "I don't get it" or "Sounds pretty dull" or "What does this have to do with a Spielberg/Abrahms movie?"

And after all of the comments, you begin to wonder...

Just sayin'

i stopped talking to my friends about any ARG. I was always so excited when telling them ("and computer , terminal , rocket and giant moster and ARGHHHH in the background") and only reaction i got from them was wondering if i took too much of something ...I don't talk to them anymore . I just close in my room alone and stare into my certificate Very Happy

Yep – I was talking to a couple of people about it yesterday who used to be somewhat interested. In the middle of my sentence one of them got up and walked out of the room and the other turned the channel on the TV. I think they're tuning me out …

MISSING: the fun

(Maybe it's hanging out somewhere with Josh Minker.)

Maybe it is better when they act like this you know ? What if one of the would ask you what's your progress in the game and all you can say it's "we've been refreshing rocketpoppeteers.com every 15 minutes for last month "

You would definietly need some new friends then Very Happy

I've said this before; this is my first ARG, and if the goal of an ARG is to stimulate "buzz," just how in the universe is this doing that?

Far from it, with the reactions I've got and others also, it seems that talking about it is actually turning ones off of the whole thing.

What do you think?

I can't even remember what the last update was, besides getting my certificate on New Year's Eve. It's now 24th January. Hmmmm..............

EDIT: Remember the site trogl.com that just said "It works!"? I just checked it again and got some sort of test page but it doesn't look IG to me so I think the URL trogl.com is just a coincidence with our TROGL.

Zone out?

It feels like we are all currently really zoned into the notable aspects of the game. RP.com, HLM, and STIES. Granted the search into other characters is fruitless and any indication to other sites is missing. Are we too zoned in to the current aspects of the game?
Looking back at that star trek ARG, there was a lot of formula and searching involved with it. Are we missing that aspect of the game or is this game simply "too big" for something like that?

RP AWAY

I agree Xeno, it would be sooo cool if the BEP's do bing-bang-boom or whatever the name of the song is and then captain coop comes out of the stage in a veil of smoke. And then has to fight an evil kladrog in front of everyone. ..... LOL.... Very Happy

Then, a super hot, sexy spacegirl joins him on stage and they rocket off into the wild blue via jetpack.... Jetpack (I added the chick because of the demographic group that usually watches the super bowl)

Then a bunch of pocket poppeteers go into the stands and give everyone an RP popsicle. The End..... LOL..... Rock On

I think the biggest problem with these promo suggestions is this:

Here you'd have all of this RP bling and what would happen?

Unless there was some tie-in to Super 8, who would have a clue as to what was going on? So, some might google RP and possibly end up here, and there would be more of us to write and gripe about the lack of anything happening.

Bottom line: you'd have a lot more people chanting Mysterio's refrain, "Are you OK, where are you, what's happening, etc."

From what I understand about the meaning of viral marketing, this is not it (yet) and the clock is ticking toward the movie opening.
