I say Neutral, in the sense that a hungry lion is neutral to the gazelle. Its not really out to cause the gazelle harm because it doesn't like the gazelle or have some plan for it, it just knows its hungry and knows it eats gazelles.

I also still am nursing the theory (more than likely wrong but its a pet theory so dont hurt me!) that The Operator is more of an omen or scavenger of bad things than the cause.

My vote has always and will always go to Evil! Dear goodness. I'm all for making sure we don't jump to concluusions, but it's pretty clear that they intend the Operator to be a menacing, evil character. So yeah.

Wouldn't be very scary if he wasn't.

Yeah, he's evil.

I'm on the side that says the Operator is evil. I mean, he just screams evil. Tall looming figure stading in front of Alex's house and peeking through the windows? No way he can be planning something good doing that.

There is existing dissent in this thread so Don't tell me everyone knows he's evil.

And I know EMH isn't related but like, take the Hansel and Gretel story for example. In every book, movie, show etc, they are good and the witch is evil. There is an accepted protagonist and a villain.

I fully agree he's evil (or maybe neutral/Blue and Orange Morality </obligatory TVTropes link>), but as for the Hansel and Gretel comparison...

In every book, movie, show, etc, the witch is the witch, as far as I know. It's never "the queen" who happens to have mystical roots or whatever. The Operator is not Slendy, officially/Word of God (I refuse to put another obligatory TVTropes link, as I'm sure everyone knows what Word of God means), he's just based upon him.

Maybe a better comparison to illustrate your point would be the Wicked Witch of the West from the Oz books/movie. Azkadellia from the SyFy reimagining is not the same person as the Wicked Witch, but fills the same role and is based upon the witch.

TL;DR: I get what you're saying, and while I don't totally agree with your rationalization, I agree mostly with the conclusion, and I offer a more accurate comparison to make your point.

That's basically the perfect argument for my point.

Thank you sir.

 neither here nor there

While it's unlikely he's good, there is no evidence to prove that he's evil. He's never been shown attacking anyone, although it had been implied. As for why they jumped out of the second story window.........well wouldn't you? I'm pretty sure Alex knows more about Ol' Slendy than Jay, but I refuse to believe that he understands him. My point is that Alex himself doesn't even know what he is up to, and automatically assumes he's evil like everyone else is.

It really wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't evil, or rather COMPLETELY evil. Same for Masky, we don't know if he's working with SM, or against him, etc. We just have to wait, and draw our own conclusions.

Maybe he's just bored and decided to have some fun kind of like how some of us used to kill ants with a magnifying glass or pull the wings off of fly's.

While I want it to be an evil entity, I'm perfectly okay with the possibility that it's simply neutral, and that these bad thing that happen to the people in MH are simply side effects of the Operator's nature of existence.

Neutral

"Evil" implies human morality and comprehensible motives. Assigning comprehensible motives to an eldritch horror makes it a lot less scary.

The Operator doesn't give a damn what happens to the people it's exerting influence over. We can't possibly know what its motivations are, but there's something eerie as hell about the idea that all of these horrible, terrible things are happening incidentally, or accidentally, or simply as a side-effect of the Operator's presence (who, incidentally, is not precisely Slenderman so comparisons to EMH or any of the other side-stories is moot). For all we know, the Operator simply dislikes camera, and brain-fuckery, memory loss, bleeding from the head and possible insanity are simply its way of expressing annoyance. (If that were the case, imagine if the Operator actually GOT angry!)

We have no evidence as to what its motives are. We don't even have any really solid working theories. That suggests to me that the Operator is meant to be inscrutable and inherently dangerous, not actively and knowingly malevolent.

Incidentally, starting up a new thread for this was unnecessary and contributes to the rampant forum clutter going on, whether or not you believe your opinion is the only right one.

Sorry. It'll fade away with all the others just like it. I'm sure it's not that much of an inconvenience; I was peeved at the time and not thinking straight.

Personally I believe he is evil, but I don't dismiss the possibility that he may not be. As others have said, he's never shown harming anyone. That aside, however, no one really knows anything about him so he could also just be an alien lifeform that's just looking for a friend, and he latches onto these people that acknowledge him because he feels they'd be easiest to befriend, and that everything that happens around the people he stalks could be simple side effects of his presence, that he has no control over at all. He could also be stuck on Earth, and latches onto these people in the hope that they'll be able to help him leave, or maybe he's just trying to communicate.

There are so many possibilities that I don't think any conclusions should be drawn at the moment other than the fact that he obviously isn't harmless.

PS: Talking about SM in the context of MH, they don't have to stick to the somethingawful profile.
